What always gets me right in the heart is that in Chant II, Hades outright tells Orpheus that women will only stay for riches. In this song, Orpheus reminds him that he had none when he first met Persephone. All he had was his honest feelings and Persephone went with him anyway. I think that finally makes him realize that even if Persephone is gone for half the year to attend to her duties, she loves him and only him. The thing he feared (her leaving forever) was an unfounded fear to begin with and all he did in his attempts to stave it off was just causing a self-fulfilling prophecy. And it breaks him. Maybe even changes him just a little, since at the end of the story, he lets her go to the human world in time for spring without protest, just promising that he'll wait for her.

The part that truly gets me is that the Muses worked through Orpheus, which is where he got the melody (the melody coming from Hades himself) Hades asked him where he got the melody - Orpheus likely got it from his mother, the muse Calliope.... Persephone's half-sister!

For me it's the way that Hades starts the musical by describing keeping Persephone like chaining her with gold and cuffing her wrists with diamonds, and using the wedding band as a prison, that he himself thought that about being married to her, and barely looking at her for approval in the things that he did for her, but to the audience, (in 'Chant') the durationof the show. And then we watch him remember the entire reason he loved her, relish moving !WITH! her rather than forcing her, and take a moment to stare at her, and then they just hold each other for awhile, in the span of 10 minutes.
