23 Yamaha SX190 Boat Review

2024 ... just ordered a 2024 SX190 ... new 1.9 motor.... knowing how reliable that Yamaha has been,. I can't wait for next spring, to pick it up. My dealer has promised me some time with the boat, in the water, to acquaint me with a jet drive; coming from a sterndrive, which is different. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: buy from a reputable dealer, who knows his product. A good relationship will make the purchase that much more enjoyable! I asked my dealer about steering enhancements, and he asked me to try the boat, for a while, before spending additional money for it. He docked the boat, before our test ride, as if it was a sterndrive, and I think some practice should allow me to do the same. Why get the supercharged motor: premium fuel, and, how often are you going to cruise at 50 MPH?

I wouldn't with that hull design. No transom, a following sea would be a problem. Not much sheer or freeboard either. This is a planing lake boat. It would be OK in protected waters but I wouldn't go anywhere near real waves or offshore.

As a boating noob, I'm looking HARD at one of these. What's the difference between the engine on the 190 vs the 195? How much faster/more torque does the 195 have vs the 190 and are there any other benefits? My dealer only has 2021's and I see this review was done in 2019. Have there been any or many changes? Thanks! You make great reviews.

The new hull was launched in 2019, and that was a big change from 2018. From 2019 to 2021 the changes were smaller. We did review a 2020 195S here (kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZXCnI2eeNBgp9k) and it has a few upgrades over the 190, such as more sculpted seating, a forward tow arch, the larger 7" Connext screen and... the more powerful supercharged SVHO engine, which allowed us to hit 49 mph in the 195S. Both are awesome boats and your Yamaha dealer probably knows a lot more about the incremental details than we do though. Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoy the reviews!
