Caleb, you have a great program here. Can you get some folks to come on this who would have a score between 4 - 8? I'd give myself a 7-8 maybe. Married, dual engineering household, no kids. Annual income ~300k, 24k in checking (not ideal), 24k in savings (not ideal). Own a house (30 yr fixed, 5.99%). 820 credit score, no CC debt (auto payoff each month, use points as cash back). Still have a car loan (short term and ~3% interest, not ideal) and student loans (not ideal). We have ~ 300k in retirement at the moment (save a combined ~24% to retirement per year). I know all my accounts and exactly where thr money goes, I'm just not super optimal with where it goes. I am not sure, but it should be the case that the difference between a 3, 4, 5, etc. Is logarithmic, not linear. As you get better at managing your finances, it becomes harder to i.orove as quickly. There is only so much you can optimize.

There is a big difference between getting by at that age and actively getting into debt where you have to spend decades getting out of it. I think the best advice is for most people in their 20s to stay away from credit cards.
@shess1640
@shess1640 Жыл бұрын
@@Driver8takeabreak I think I was making less than 40,000 a year at the time and I had at least that in debt. I had a big awakening after an older relative suddenly died, and we learned that she was not the rich, dowager aunt that we thought she was. In fact, she was quite a bit in debt and the senior housing. She was living in, was no longer providing her with the services that she had once had. She was not very good at fending for herself. She borrowed money from my mother, but did not explain anything more than she was having a problem with her liquidity. she was not a spender at all. However, she was turned by a Beverly Hills stockbroker. He wied and dined her and convinced her he was doing goodbye her when, in fact he swindled. My father made me call all her credit card companies after she died and send them her death certificates. He wanted me to see all her bills so that I might learn from her mistakes. I did. But I already had a lot of debt, so I cut out everything just about except for the cost of my inexpensive apartment and my cost to commute and a tight tight budget. I cut cable back in the early 90s which was rare, and allowed myself to buy one burrito a week beyond what else I might make at home. I took on a second job that only paid minimum wage, but once you put your energy and focus on a goal and you adjust your actions accordingly, it is amazing what you can accomplish. It took me about a year and I paid off every debt. I was about 30 when I was able to make that happen.

One of the best episodes yet! You can tell Caleb has ALREADY helped this guy start to turn things around a couple of months ago through his videos. Two months ago when Caleb was blowing up, a lot of guests were saying “oh I just started watching you and changed my ways two weeks ago,” now this guy is basically saying he started watching at the same and changed course two months ago. Awesome! Plus, this guy was a very engaging guest and good on camera. He was honest about how bad he used to be and has already started changing his behavior in a big way. His whole thing hinges on the real estate: he’ll be able to pay off debt in huge chunks if and when those deals come in. If not, he has a huge income problem. But he doesn’t have a big spending problem any more. You can do it!

on a slightly related note, i HATE the gig economy, in a lot of ways it’s just a legal loophole for doordash and uber to have people working like employees without benefits. And as much as they pretend it’s a “be your own boss” venture it’s not, 1/3 of ubers drivers in seattle complete 1/2 of their rides, and in some cities they tried to incentivize full time drivers with bonuses so really they *do* need full time work, they just don’t want to pay full time benefits

Amen. I'm kinda done with the whole "hustle" culture thing and to a lesser extent the side gig grind as well. One tends to undervalue and overwork its employees whilst the other didn't respect them in the first place so workers need to find different avenues to generate additional income.

Trust me I love watching Caleb yell at people for doing the wrong thing, but I’d love to see some people in their mid 20’s or early 30’s who have their life together and are higher on the Caleb score. I think the highest I’ve ever seen is like a 5 and that too was months ago (been a sub for like a year)

No. This dude took student loans then dropped out, financed a Tesla he couldn’t afford, has 2 Macy’s cards and 2 gym memberships, and he spends money and gas for all his side jobs. I’d respect him if he’d have finished his degree, had one suit for all his realtor duties, worked out for free, and had applications for REAL jobs everywhere. Right now he talks a good game, just like a realtor

@@billyoung8118 That's not even what 'Karen' means Bill. My point was this dude is underwater beyond his monthly income, all of his jobs require money in or miles on his car, and he has no retirement. Any full time hourly job at a fixed location would be a better situation for him, his debt, his retirement, AND his car, which is an out of warranty Hyundai for pete's sake.

Seriously, it's sad about your Dad, but as far as his debt, unless it's a mortgage for a house you're living in, or some debt you helped run up that you co-signed for, you probably don't have to worry. Just get a copy of his death certificate and keep going up the chain of command. They should waive any termination fees to cancel any subscriptions or services he had when you show the certificate. You need it to put the utilities in your name anyway.
