Go to your local shelter or rescue, meet some dogs, and do a foster to adopt to see if everyone fits. ❤ Second caller: you choose your kids above your girlfriend. Oof, as someone whose dad chose girlfriends over his kids the last 15 years of his life, let me tell you, it doesn't end with all of your kids in your life. You seem so kind and I don't want that for you or them! Your kids are young adults - it IS time to shift into more of a friend who can provide guidance than hands-on daily parenting anyway.

Get a female Doberman. Not bulky, very protective of their family and scary looking but really sweet and loyal. Also heard that boxers are amazing family dogs. I have a vizsla. Boys can get big and a little intimidating but they are very loving and kinda chickens. People arent usually scared of them, cuz they are so pretty, LOL.

We have a St. Bernard poodle mix. The smartest, sweetest dog we’ve ever had. Her bark terrifies everyone who doesn’t know her. She’s intimidating but actually the most caring, loving dog. Snuggles the kids, obeys, potty trained herself etc. she weighs about 50-60 lbs. huge head and paws. A gentle medium giant

Why aren't we recommending therapy to the first girl? I know we're here for the funnies, but if every one of her partners is the same, the common denominator is her. Natural for her age, but needs to be healed or the pattern will repeat forever.

I know exactly what dog you want: German Sheppard/Bordie Collie mix. I have one and he's incredibly intimidating - looks like a black wolf with a deep bark, but is the sweetest sweetheart in the world. And the only time he ever barks is when someone knocks on the door or sees someone come in the house that he doesn't recognize. Literally the greatest dog in the world. Get it. And get him on the show. Oh, AND he poops behind trees naturally so you never see him pooping. It's like he was engineered and created to be the perfect dog. Like a weird science situation.

You say no pit bulls but you're pretty much describing bully breeds haha. They have been known as nanny and family dogs for decades. They can also look intimidating and protect if need be. Boxers are great too. Check out Best Friends Animal Society or the many shelters and breed specific rescues out in LA. Adopt and save a life! PS I'm so sorry for all the loss you two have had. I've been a fan for a long time and always enjoyed seeing the whole crew of chihuahuas.

The nanny dog thing is a myth, started in 1971 by Lilian Rant, who had a financial motive for starting it because she was the president of the Staffordshire bull terrier club and wanted to paint them in a better light. No dog is qualified to be left alone in charge of children, and implying a breed bred for hundreds of years to fight is asking for trouble.

I know y’all already got a GSD which is a great choice but I’m so glad you didn’t get a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I’ve worked in vet clinics for ten years and they are the biggest babies. They’re afraid of toe nail trims, cats, children, sirens. Everything. Maybe they’d want to kill an intruder in your house or maybe they’d be too distracted by wetting themselves because your neighbor is vacuuming.

Dog advice - Get a mix! More importantly get a young adult dog so you already know it’s personality and demeanor. My dog is boxer/pit/german shepherd mix who is protective and barks at strangers and scares the shit out of them but is actually the biggest baby - it’s pretty great cuz I get that defense without having to worry about a dog that will actually go after anyone - but you can’t really breed for that. There are SO many rescues in LA that will let you foster first or take them back if it doesn’t work out.

We got our dog from “underdog animal rescue” they are in Moab and focus on rescuing dogs from the four corner Rez. Our Rez dog is AMAZING she has NEVER peed or pooped in the house and we call her nana cuz she’s like the dog from Peter Pan. She’s about 50 lbs and when we got her she was nervous from never being in a home but she learned really quick and is one of the easiest dogs I’ve trained (the easiest dog for me to train was our pit bull lab mix) I will only get dogs from this shelter now, they are so unique looking and loving and Natasha can say her dog is Native American lololol

I’m with Natasha. I grew up with a German shepherd/Great Dane mix and later a Pitt bull /chow/ lab mix. Big dogs are smellier, shed more, have hot smelly breathe, and the shits are big and can be messy. Also, if they have an accident, it’s a giant puddle. You can’t litter or pad train them just in case. I now have a Chiweenie . He’s a good guard dog, serious looking, and sweet to people, he also doesn’t smell bad, doesn’t even fart. He’s potty trained but will also use the pad if he needs to. So unless you are an insecure person looking for a status symbol, stick with small dogs. Also in cities, the only people with large dogs are people who don’t know how to train them and they all attack people at the dog park (or off leash at a human park). At least small dog parks have normal people who just like dogs. It’s okay to have a big dog if you have a lot of land or are very active

I live in Utah not mormon, and wasn't raised mormon. No one tells you what to wear, when I was in high school I had people telling me what to wear or to cover up. But nonetheless I think that goes for every state as a young girl! Not saying it is right though, that is old traditional thinking. Utah does have a bad reputation and rightfully so. Lots of religious trauma among my peers. You have Utah listeners that love you, please come Natasha! I was going to come to your show :.)

Do not get an Akita unless you want tons of hair and a borderline untrainable breed with aggressive tendencies. Nope. Huskies and Akitas are a nope from me. The only thing you got right was that they’re intimidating. A quick google search will confirm this. Ive been a veterinary technician for a decade and have never met an Akita I’ve liked or that’s liked me. I would never trust one with a child.

I have a Timberwolf Mallamut Labrador. He is the best creature alive❤😊 Fiercely loyal, very smart, cuddly and kind with kids, smaller dogs, and members of his "pack". Big and strong as fuck, an intruder would not stand a chance short of using a gun. Also a very good sleeper, good at chilling. Also, Only ever barks his deep scary woof when threatening strangers or other threats are on the property. Sociable and intuitive. The intelligence comes with a healthy amount of independence though. And yes his poops are huge, but he goes to hilariously great lengths to poop away from the house, trails, etc he's a gentleman like that lol. We live out of the city though. Best of luck guys! Truly Appreciate you and your pod So Very Much. Better than therapy. Thank You Sincerely.❤

Nothing wrong with pure breeds if they are bred professionally. The American views on "adopt dont shop" only exists because there aren't tight restrictions and regulations for proper licensing to breed pure bred dogs. There is extremely regulated breeding laws in countries like Germany where you'd get fined and arrested for improper breeding practices and there are practically zero shelters because of theses rules. All dogs were created by man, dogs weren't brought to earth as "mixed" breeds lol. There's nothing natural about it. Whats ultimately really sad is how uncultured Americans are about dog breeds.. pure breeds should be celebrated and bred with regulations from the state governments. That all being said, both sheltered dogs and pure bred dogs can co-exist in America and there shouldn't be hate towards either side.
