IvyCowboy! Seems like the universe really wants us to be friends, you're on every single one of the comment sections I find! I agree, the live version is phenomenal - but I agree with the other commenters saying not the current one on KZbin 😭 As for fave song, everyone has named so many good ones but I haven't seen Maroon or Tolerate it or Never Grow Up yet (I think) so I'll say those.

My favorite: Oh god it's like asking me my favorite kid. Depends on my mood. I'll go for underrated. I love False God and Death by a Thousand Cuts. They don't get enough attention. False God has like a jazz/RnB thing going. And Death by a Thousand Cuts has so many great bars. Personally when she performed it acoustic in Paris that was my favorite live version of DBATC

I imagine you'll hear lots of repeats for everyone's favourite Taylor songs, so I'm gonna go with Maroon from her Midnights album and off the beaten path a ways with Paper Rings from Lover; Paper Rings is poppy fluff that's bouncy and fun, Maroon is much lower, smoother, a little gritty and just ... I don't even know. I love it.

It’s a folk album that has more fictionalized story telling. I’m not sure you would like it but maybe if you tried Betty. It’s a song from a boy’s pov about how he apologizes for messing up. Very sweet and the production is beautiful.

Ok you could go for a double header about John Mayer and their 11 year age gap. “Dear John” was written shortly after they broke up. It’s not spectacular but it sets the stage for the sequel: “Would’ve could’ve should’ve” was written a decade later when she was his then-age and she GOES IN HARD on that one. It’s gut wrenching but such great music.

Taylor is actually involved every step of the way with making her music. She will even do voice recordings of a sound idea she has so her producers know the sound vibe she’s going for. If you look up Taylor Swift The Making of a Song, there’s a 45 minute KZbin video of her making the Reputation album. There’s a clip of her singing ratatatata in her phone apparently in the middle of the night and she wanted to use it in I Did Something Bad. It is worth watching because the way she thinks about music is really inspiring. For songs, I think you should check out Maroon and Midnight Rain from the Midnights album and Delicate and Dress from Reputation. You may think Dress is going to be some kiddy-bop song based on the title, but it’s a sexy ass song.
@arainapeterson
@arainapeterson Жыл бұрын
And how could I forget Folklore and Evermore… on Folklore there are 3 songs that are linked together. Cardigan, Betty, and August. In an interview Taylor said she wanted to write a song about “the other woman” and how that woman is usually demonized, but really it’s a person with feelings who is in love. So that’s August. Betty is written from a teenage boy’s perspective about cheating on his girlfriend over the summer (with the girl from August) and trying to win Betty back. In the same interview, Taylor said Cardigan is written from Betty’s perspective and how she likes to think Betty and James end up together, but that James really put Betty through it. My Tears Ricochet is a good one. It’s edgy Taylor, but not Reputation vibes. Epiphany is also a great one that she wrote during quarantine about the doctors and nurses being heros like soldiers. It’s really well done. Seven and Exile are also great! Honestly, Folklore is a great album and you can’t go wrong. Even if it’s not your vibe sound-wise, her lyrics are incredible. For Evermore, Champagne Problems, Tolerate It, No Body No Crime, and Ivy.

even though i was born the same year as Taylor, i'm really new to her music. she's got a lot of songs, i think she's been in the industry for almost two decades now? and i'll be honest, maybe a third of her songs are top 5 worthy imho. it depends what i'm in the mood for as well, she's fairly versatile. she's a genuine talent, and super hard working, as far as i can tell. good to her employees, too. she's large enough to push back against unfair conditions that artists usually face in the music industry, and win. younger artists coming up behind her will have a better shot because of her. like, even to people who don't like her type of music, there's no reason to hate on this woman. and yeah, she's got a surprising amount of amazing diss tracks, which doesn't hurt, lol

My favorite song is probably Lavender Haze. It’s basically about how the media is always sticking their nose in her relationships and starting rumors. It was written for her boyfriend before Travis, who she was with for six years… basically the song is her saying, “look, I love that you don’t listen to all these other people outside of our relationship. I love that you don’t let what they say about me change your mind about who you know I am. I especially love the line where she says, “and you don’t really read into my melancholia”. That line resonates with me so much because as someone who struggles with anxiety and depression and how things that shouldn’t matter that get me down and then I worry about how it will affect my relationship. And when you’re someone as big as Taylor, who has a perpetual target on her head, I can imagine how soothing that must be to have someone be like, I get why you’re down, I know how heavy the media weighs on you; and they don’t matter.” It also has such a nice slinky beat and I really love the eras tour version because it’s got some awesome electronic guitar! 🎸💜

'All too well' (watch the official mini movie video) , The moment I knew' & 'We are never, ever getting back together' are all supposedly about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal. She started dating him at 19 & she is now 34. 'Dear John' is about her & John Mayer. 'You're losing me' is about Joe Alwyn, the guy she was with for 6 years before Travis Kelce. 'Vigilante shit' is about revenge on Scooter Braun who screwed her out of her music. She just rerecorded everything, sprucing each tune up, so they are better than ever. 'Bad Blood' has a bad ass video with it.

Taylor has had quite a few different producers over the years. This one was Max Martin and Shellback who were also with her on her albums Red and 1989. After reputation, most of her production is Jack Antonoff, who produces for some other big names I can't think of right now. My favorite Taylor Swift song is whichever one I'm listening to at the time, but if I had to pick a few for you to react to, it would be her live and acoustic performances. Literally any of them. I mean, everyone has personal favourites, the Taylor anthem though, *the fan favourite song* is "All Too Well" off of Red... it's from her country/pop era so it may not be your vibe but lyrically it's fucking poetry, lines like "you call me up again just to break me like a promise so casually cruel in the name of being honest". It wasn't even a single, it was a track 5 (track 5s are Taylor's most personally emotional songs) that became a fan fav. She revealed years ago that the original song was 10 minutes long, which would've been absurdly long to release but fans begged for it, SO when she rerecorded her Red album she gave us "All Too Well 10". It's spectacular. I do recommend maybe reacting to the og song, then the 10 minute version... ATW10 just hits different knowing the original.

Love your energy every time and I will say, she has plenty of songs about boyfriends this one is about falling for her longtime bf of the time obviously (most of the rep album is) but the last song you reacted to, "vigilante shit", isn't about an ex, she's said it's "dreaming of revenge" but it's theorised to be about Scooter Braun, the guy who her music catalogue was sold to behind her back, all the music she's currently rerecording so she can own it because she wasn't offered the chance to buy it... if you just look up "scooter braun taylor swift" you'll see it all lol. Someone could probably summarise better than me. But yea not about an ex.

The ultimate dish songs are dear John you need to watch it live, and then Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve. They’re both about the same person a famous singer that really hurt her.

All Too Well 10 minute version the short film. She directed the short film and it’s tragically beautiful!! Also it’s about Jake Gyllenhaal who dated her when she was 20 and he was like 32 👀

Many of the songs on Reputation are about her then-boyfriend Joe Alwyn, who she began dating when she began making this album and dated for about six years.
