Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I'm a fifth year PhD candidate in neuroscience hoping to of course, make the jump to industry. Almost every informational interview I've had ended in them saying they eventually got a job because they happened to know someone there. It makes me extremely discouraged and worried to try and transition immediately rather than do a post-doc first, which may broaden my network. Given that universities don't offer this type of advice at all, this is gold to me - just hearing someone in my field share their thoughts helps tremendously. My dream is to work within the realm of medical writing/affairs, and your career path really inspires me. Thank you again, I'll be sure to remember these points!

It's my pleasure! You can start networking now as you finish up. You don't need to do a post-doc if you don't want to. But if you feel it will give you some kind of runway, I understand that too.

Thank you for your video. Could you do a video on coming to US using the PHD route
@TheBoldPhD10 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. This is not really an area of expertise for me especially because I came to the US as an undergraduate student over 20 years ago. However, this KZbin channel by Kingsford Onyina focuses on more recent news on this topic. Here's his channel: www.youtube.com/@kingsfordonyina2101/videos

You are absolutely great! Thank for your advice and help. I finished my PhD in neurobiology… as most scientists I know advanced statistics, data science and analytics tools (SQL, python, R, excel, MS Office ), I have writing skills (papers, grants, posters, courses syllabus), molecular and cell biology techniques… I built my own research devices, etc… i have a long history teaching physiology, evolutionary biology and neuroscience… I speak Spanish and English…and despite this I can’t find a job nor in nor outside … I recently decided to quit academia… your advice is very useful… and the job market is crazy or is just academia?

The job market is honestly wild right now. Nonetheless, I am rooting for you and wishing you all the best.

Hello Dr.G. first timer here! 👋 I burst into tears and laughter when I heard you saying 'hoping something sticks! '. Because I think exactly this was my recent strategy in the job application process. Thank you for bringing some light and humour and honesty in this journey. Considering joining your workshop but cant figure out what time zone the workshop will be streamed: 9 am GMT? Or 9am CET?

Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Glad the video resonated. 9am Pacific Time.

I'm on the other side - currently looking to get into academia with EdD. Not easy!

Some reports suggest career switches can take up to 12 months. It is NEVER easy.
