Eliminating the hardest part to installing an engine! Getting your engine over the core support is often times the hardest part during an install. Today I decided to make my own S13 core support that is also detachable, yet looks good. The goal is to make the core support look as if it is not detachable. Although Im not 100% content with this current mock up, I plan to come up with an alternative method.
I spent the last 7 years building this 1990 Nissan 240sx from the ground up by myself. I swapped out the KA24e for a KA24de. Then once more for a RB25det out of a R34 Skyline and couldn't be happier. I have also converted the 240 to right hand drive, (which ended up saving my life!) After installing a few drift parts; such as a hydro E - Brake, and dual rear calipers, welded diff, solid suspension bushings and more, the car handled amazing. Surprisingly this S13 was able to drift and stay sideways perfectly despite the damage that was done to it.

For the core support sections that are overlapping you should do a "FIP Gasket" aka form in place gasket or seal. We do this at the aerospace company I work for. Usually, we mate the two parts together with the sealant on one part and a dry release agent on the other part. Bolt it together and wait for the sealant to fully dry before taking it apart. There should be a full gasket on one half and the other side should be clean. Stops metal on metal chafing and makes the part more solid when fastened together.

Dude, the progress is awesome. Once you get the quarter panel done, the car will be a true, complete, shell. You are going to have the most rigid, strong s13 frame and body on the planet (short of a tube race car). I still believe the car will move under its own power by christmas

Dude yes!!!! I think that nissan will be so strong now after all the gusseting he has done to the shell. it will be very interesting to see if it makes any kind of noticeable difference, it should be so smooth like it's on rails

For the metal to metal contact you were referring to, I’d run some sort of rubber gasket in between the two surfaces as it add a vibration damping layer between the two sheets and protect the paint. Another option you could use is some clear 3m vinyl.

@16:01 do exactly what you are already doing, only once it is all painted, use some clear bra vynil to cover over the lower hald of rad support, so as the upper half of rad support sit ontop of the clear bra so no paint is scratched and you still get the exact same effect 🤘🙌

Praying mantids are my favorite! Was so nice to see one. (: I'm kinda sad that the core support won't be permanent, cause it looks freaking sick. I wonder how different the car will feel after its done, with the weight of the welds & reinforcements, along with how rigid it'll be now, or if any of that will even change anything. Good idea to put a cage in it, too. Pack a fire extinguisher that handles all types of fires as well, for good measure. Don't breathe that metal dust, and keep slaying! ~

One of my friends has some dimple die gussets that connect the shock tower to the cowel/bulk head of the car. They look cool, but they also provide a extra strength to the car. It might be worth doing to yours car, especially for the purpose of strength. Either that or you can sure make your cage go through the bulk head and tie into the shock tower.

Hah the pile of "powder" on the garage floor under the car is like deja vu, as my floor looks pretty much the same... Mine's a mix of rust, metal dust, seam sealer, and undercoating... On the future design for the core support, could you possibly cap off each end of the middle section like you did to the 2 outer ends, and then through bolt the 2 end caps together underneath rather than from the top? I'd have to look at how much access there is from underneath but if you could bolt from below you could create a really clean looking seam up top where the 2 flat pieces come together where the top would be completely flush. It'd probably look even better than oem which has the overlapped panels at each end. Hopefully that description made sense.

Hey man! Make your removable core support just a hair wider than it needs to be all the way around where It mounts up , then line the inside of the removable piece with a thin rubber (adhesive on one side and smooth rubber on the other like a 3M product), this way you can attach it without damaging the paint and it will still fit snugly and tighten down with the bolt.

Plus they seem to love to do KZbin collabs. Just saying. :D
