Taking a step back to do the kind of work that one wants to do, albeit for less money, happens all the time. I did it. As a senior executive at a consulting firm, I was responsible for selling work and managing performance and compensation for a large group of consultants. These responsibilities were in addition to my client-facing delivery work. Rather than just retire, my company agreed to allow me to give up the sales and people management aspects of my job and just focus on client-facing work. The thing about the OSU defense is that they lost a bunch of talent to graduation & the NFL after 2019. They also lost DC Jeff Hafley to Boston College. Then, they whiffed on their next DC hire with Kerry Coombs. The defense began a 2 year descent into the dark ages & had to be rebuilt roster wise on top of implementing a new scheme 3 seasons removed from 2019. The offense was elite in 2022, and each year before that dating back to 2018. We're only 1 season removed from Ryan Day being mentioned in the same breath as Lincoln Riley & Steve Sarkisian. They have the peices to bounce back quickly.

Wow, just wow. Your expectations are stretching it a bit aren't they? Realistic would be to expect a B1G 10 championship but a natty is tough to do. Lets face it, there are probably 10-12 teams that could win a natty so it's just hard to predict. If "anything" goes wrong in a game in the playoffs (talking about the 12 team one next year) you are out. A shanked field goal - gone! QB gets sacked a couple of times at the wrong junction of the game - gone! Interception or fumble - gone ....... unless you are very lucky in those instances you will most likely lose any of those games. I will admit that it would be nice to see Ohio State win the natty but not going to crucify the coach if they don't. What I am hoping for this season is for them to finally have their offense AND defense clicking on all cylinders at the same time. I think they could be scary good if that happens.

My hope... HOPE... is that Bill O'Brien is able to recruit at a higher level and get some higher level transfers going north. I know JP has his feelings about BOB, but Boston College hasn't had a coach of his level in a very long time. Sure they had Tom Coughlin and Tom O'Brien, but they didn't come to BC with the background that Bill O'Brien has. JP said, "he wasn't good at Alabama. Bryce Young was a savior at Alabama." It takes good coaches to make talented players great. You can put that all on G.O.A.T Saban if you want, but how many talented QBs under perform due to poor coaching? How many QBs play so well that they get drafted high in the NFL draft, but under poor coaching are labelled as busts? Time will tell if BOB can level up BC enough to win 7 games in the regular season, but to downplay what he did as Penn State head coach after the Sandusky downfall, coaching up the Texans to a level of success they hadn't had to that point, sure his GM skills were terrible, he is a good coach and a great hire for Boston College. Josh, give BOB a little love. I do agree that Boston College is in the muck of the bottom of the ACC... as a fan of a mucky team, I need to find those flickers of hope when I can get them.

I think Josh has good info, but I can’t get over how it feels like I’m listening to a preacher give a sermon in every one of his videos. Am I the only that gets that vibe? Lol

Imagine going from NFL head coach to college OC😬 I like Chip Kelly but what a fall from grace.

He wants to actually coach and not worry about fundraising and non stop recruiting. I think it’s great for him and for Ohio State.

He chose to go back to college. An UCLA is a dead program who should be happy winning 8-9 games a yr. They have No NIL money an Kelly can't compete. The Ohio st OC is better than the UCLA head coaching Job. Kelly just wants to coach football to young men. He doesn't want to fundraise an recruit own players. He is Kne of the Best offensive minds in NCAA pair that with OSUs weapons an watch out!!!

Well that’s a first. Josh Pate is usually such a kiss ass when it comes to coaches and coordinators that I didn’t expect that bit about O’Brien.

You say UCLA was not happy with Chip Kelly you need to reverse that Chip Kelly was not happy at UCLA no attendance hard to recruit it's a basketball school nobody wants to play football for UCLA but Chip Kelly had a great offensive team no matter where he went he averaged 4 to 500 yards of offense every team he's ever coached even when he was at the Philadelphia Eagles Google it check the statistics she will be amazed
