Always enjoyed college football because it felt more genuine and less about money. At least it used to.

I like college more because of the rivalries. The NFL division rivalries felt generic. College rivalries go deeper because of historical events like Kansas v Missouri or because of geography like Duke v UNC or the Iron Bowl.

Few of us have friends who have been professional athletes. Almost everyone knows someone pretty well who played on a college team somewhere. We just know the game more intimately. And the memories games evoke, not just of previous seasons , but of classes and teachers and friends and younger versions of ourselves from years past are something the NFL cannot equal.

A few other things that set CFB apart. 1. Alumni: Being an Alumnus of a University just creates a way deeper connection to a team than just growing up in a city with a pro football league, thus the crowds tend to be a little higher class than NFL. Unlike a pro team you can never detach yourself from your Alma Mater, you are stuck for life, similar to the family you are born in to. 2. Players: Until recently 95% of players that committed to a university only played at that university for their 3-4 years and thus were forever a part of that program. With free agency in the NFL it sometimes feels like a collection of talent that just changes jerseys every few years. Just look at Tom Brady and Bret Favre, they didnt even end their careers at the NFL programs that made them.

College has always been my favorite sport and passion. Transfer portal, NIL and every judge ruling for the last 2 years has just about destroyed my interest. It’s nothing more than the NFL developmental league now. I’m making every effort to find a Pro team to cheer for and be done with college.

Good topic! CFB because there is no billionaire team owner. But also because of the student section and the band!
@NealBrownnBeers8 ай бұрын
I'll put it this way, as someone who enjoys both; the average NFL game that you'll watch on TV/attend is likely the more competitive matchup, but there's not much better in the world than a close college football game and there's not much that ends up being a more boring product than a bad NFL game.
@kevinbond89668 ай бұрын
I wish college football would stop trying to be like the NFL. Theyre both good for their own separate reasons. College is better though. Also, a pre BCS bowl structure is better than a 12 team playoff.
@timebomb428 ай бұрын
It's strange because the NFL seems better on a structural level, they actually know what they're doing. College football has better on the field product, but the structure is a complete mess.

The big difference is the NFL was created and designed to make money. If the NFL took the money away, there would never be another NFL game played. CFB on the other hand was about school vs school with pride and bragging rights on the line. If they took the money out of CFB, closed all the stadiums and canceled the parade ... in a field somewhere with old sneakers used a goal markers, Texas would still play OK. Florida would still play GA, OSU would still play Mich. THIS is the difference between the NFL and CFB. Both are money making machines but one plays for the money and one plays for the sport.

I prefer college but I'll say this. I think it really depends which NFL teams were talking about. I love the Eagles. I live across the country. When they won the super bowl, I got my ass on a plane to go to the parade. And it was full of eagles fans. They played "fly eagles fly" on the intercom lol. No offense to Falcons fans. I grew up in Georgia in the Michael Vick era. I was never enticed to root for the falcons lol. There's just wildly different fanbases.

I love the athletic imbalance - not just among teams but among players. I talk about this all the time, The best example I can give is a guy like Reggie Bush. In college, he was so much better than most everyone he was playing against. Which allowed him to make exciting spectacular plays. He danced around and made people look foolish. When he went to the pros, that dancing around got him killed by that 300 d lineman who was why faster than almost everyone Reggie had every played against at that position. Not picking on Reggie. He was a good pro. He was never close to being the best pro though and he was the best in college.

I like watching giants fall. Any given Saturda, upsets or near upsets happen. Also these players only have a few years to make their mark and compete for the ultimate prize. For most seniors they only have one last shot. There is no redo. It adds so much drama knowing for many there is not a next year.

I'm an Ohio State fan but I watch a ton of other games all Saturday every year.. I'm a Browns fan and never miss a game, but I literally couldn't care less about any game that doesn't involve the Browns.. I used to like the NFL as a whole, but the whole "protect the shield" attitude turned me off.. NFL is just so "corporate", off-putting and disingenuous.. CFB is more fun to watch and follow, it's not even a debate for me..

I love everything about CFB. My city has its own team, they literally build their own resume during the season, the rankings are like a P4P list . But their is nothing like the NFL . Football has always had a short life span. I see it as a gladiator sport. You may last maybe 4 - 10 years if you're on top of your game. After that you leave and recall your battle tales. I know the casual consumer may not like that idea, however I don't want my favorite player to deal with brain issues later down there lives. But that's just me.
