UM, Ga beating Bama would give them #1 back, if Bama beats GA it will likely give them #1. At least that is how it worked in the past. If #2 and #4 play each other, the winner deserves #1 spot.

I don’t want the Vols so high. I’ve fully embraced oddly relatable (from a Vol) Saban and his moniker of rat poison. I don’t want any of that anywhere near the locker room. Rate us in the teens, or anywhere around there until at least the Alabama game. Nothing is safe until after that future bloodbath.

I get it, Miami fan here, but I'm not about to poopoo the ratings or rankings anywhere. The reality is, with the rat poison theory, that it's not about how high or low a team is ranked, but the character of the team's players in whether or not they're looking and paying attention to it. Georgia and Alabama enjoy the lime light every year, the rat poison is there every year, it's the team's not caring about it that don't stumble on it. I see the polls as something for me to enjoy and rant about (like how Miami is still behind Alabama in polling and ratings despite looking like the more dominant team against a common opponent in USF), and hope that the players don't give a crap about them.

One think I’d love to get Josh Pates opinion on, is that BYU offense actually moved the ball well, but the offense averaged getting the ball in plus territory on the 44 yard line. You can only gain the yards in front of you. Go cougs

How does the Jp poll evaluate garbage time? For example does it look at the Clemson Nc state game as a 52-7 win (score when starters taken out) or the final score of 59-35

I just have a question. Why is USC expected to lose to U of M, but then also ranked 10+ spots ahead of them? It seems like a big gap for a team that beat another team. Is it because USC is supposed to beat more different teams?

The Jp poll is if they play on a neutral field. Doesn’t factor in home field or anything. Just straight up on a neutral field.

I'd love to see the numbers behind this because I do not think that 21-25 would outright beat Boston College. Rutgers beat a very bad Virginia Tech team (not that I expected them to be, but the reality of their play has been terrible) as their Marquee win. Do I think Boston College's win against FSU was better? Yeah, probably. Even as bad as FSU themselves was, BC looked like the much much better team on the field. They also beat a Michigan State team that looks like they might be able to get to 6 and be bowl eligible for the first time since '21, and played Mizzou straight through to the fourth. They're not challenging top 15 teams regularly, but they're a top 25 team in play so far this year from the eyeball test. Must be some metrics that don't look so hot for them to continually be left out of even power ratings.

He said, we expected Michigan to beat USC so they don get moved down much for losing. I'm confused how a team rated 24 (at the time) is expected to beat a team rated 11 in this system? I thought this was like a power rating of who is the better team, and USC would be favored over everyone below them, but according to Josh, they were not favored above Michigan, but where ranked above them? Is this solely due to the home field advantage for UM? I'm confused how there is still such a large gap between the two teams after the lower rated one beat the higher rated one. UM moved 3 spots closer to a team they beat in real life head to head. It feels like that should mean a bit more even in power ranking.

@JoshPateCFB Georgia should be higher rated than Texas. They have the better win, as Clemson is now higher than Michigan. No, Texas has not struggled against Kentucky, but they haven't played a team on the same level as Kentucky if Clemson cancels Michigan. I'm sure if they beat Alabama you'll correct this, but there is a flaw in that it wasn't corrected this week before the Alabama game. If Alabama were to beat Georgia, they should also be #1 over Texas by the same standards.
