24V vs 48 volt 15kw inverters. What are the differences?

That transformer in that 15kW inverter is about the same size as my 5kW unit, I noticed with all off the shelf inverters is the transformers are way undersized. Yes it will do the 15KW but with poor efficiency dropping below 93% 7% is a whopping 1050Watts of heat in that case, it will not last long. Also those little TO-220 mosfets irfb4110 all up 32 4 groups of 8 switching 300Amps at 50V, just a matter of time before it goes pop, or be sure to keep load at a few KW max no more, it will last then.

Note that this is an old style of inverter and is not as efficient as newer designs. The newer ones first use a DC-DC converter to get up to the required voltage, and then switch that with mosfets. I can't remember what these two types of inverters are called and some googling mostly turns up solar power websites.

Power Jack's definition of continuous power is full load for 10minutes or less, mine is full load + 10% for years. It really simple if anything gets hot and fans a running at full power then in not true continuous. My inverter only gets warm may be 15 degrees above room temperature, no fans needed.

How this thing may be 15Kw if the power transformer is not more then 5Kw. A Triad Magnetic 5Kw transformer is 11 inches OD but this one is smaller as I can see. Do the China engineers brake physics low?

Nice video and precious info one can rarely find. One question: when you say that in the 24v inverter, the 24v DC input is turned into 18v AC before it enters the transformer, is the 18v in terms of RMS (i.e. voltage one reads from a volt meter)? Or you are talking about peak voltage?

I have a Aims 10kw 48v split phase that was working for the last 3 years. Three in the morning lighting hit somewhere close and took out the inverter. Does the Power Jack have surge protection? The Aims 10kw needs a 15kw generation and I have a 7.5 kw so I never hooked it up. What does the Power Jack require for a generator connection?

I can tell you that I accidentally sent the grid through my inverter and it roasted the breaker but the inverter was fine. They use 70 amp push button reset fuses that seem to work great.

I don't know much about these inverters, so take this with a grain of salt..... Do you know if the 5kw rating is peak or RMS? 5k/sqrt(2) = 3.5k which is close to where your fuse is blowing. Some companies boast a little on wattage (at least with speakers and amps), I have no idea about your inverter company. Still seems like you shouldn't be blowing a fuse though. I would contact the manufacturer and also see what they think. It's hard to say increase the fuse size, because something else inside could get damaged by the current that is blowing your fuses. some appliances draw in a large inrush of current initially and then average out much lower. not sure if that could be a cause. Alexys Ortiz my understanding of the 110v models is limited single circuit wattage . The fuse is likely seeing far beyond amperage due to induction surge. Motors pull much more watts than resistance loads.

Is the 48v. split phase a pure sine wave? Have you tested the sine wave? I need 60 Hz and the Aims was a steady 59.7 Hz and no adjustment. Does the Power Jack have an adjustment? Does this have a bonded neutral or a floating neutral?

It is a perfect 60hz. It also has a floating neutral, however when connected to the breaker neutral it will share the bond. Floating neutral only applies to the outlets on the front.

48 volts will always be better. Less heat because fewer amps to get to 120 volts. Less strain on the inverter.

Yes true. At it's Max. I would stay closer to 6k per side max if you want it to run continuously.

Lol. The higher the voltage the lesser the current drawn. 48 or higher is best. 12 volt & 24 volt will be drained faster than 48 volts.
