As a huge redblock Volvo fan and previous owner of a dozen or so Volvos and one 2011 VW Golf TDI 6mt with full deletes, cr170 turbo, CP3 hpfp, lowering springs, Bilsteins, etc. , I feel your pain. My Golf was problem free for 180k though, except for a mouse that decided to chew into the main wire harness. Anyhow, a smf should absolutely never be used on the 2L commonrail TDIs- it will damage the transmission synchros every single time. DMF only! Good luck brother.

That is a sad story. That's why on my TDI group everybody is wanting to buy the older ALH or BEW. I for one own a 2004 TDI 5-speed that I bought new. I just turned over 440,000 miles on the car runs perfectly. The older ones they seem to be the better engine designs. I've seen the same cars with 800,000 miles on them with the original engines. Thanks for posting the video it was sad 😢

I've had 6 of these tdi's. Currently still have my wifes 2014 wagon with a dsg. Owned it since 5k now at 90k. Kept up with service and have had absolutely no problems with it. No of them ever had a single problem. This blows my mind. Im guessing both those engines where neglected?
@DeanofMachines
@DeanofMachines Жыл бұрын
Both engines are over 100k miles. The motor that was in it when I got it may or may not have been maintained well. I'm not sure. The second motor, in the 25k that I ran it, was not neglected. It saw 4 oil changes, oil levels checked frequently. I can't speak for it's experience before finding it's way to me. It could be an age thing. I have confirmed with an independent shop that the gasket between the oil cooler housing and the block fails and oilpressure is lost.

Ive been driving my ALH 2000 Golf TDI since 2002 when I bought it from the original owner with 50k on it. It now has 221k. Been wrecked twice and put back together by me. Its a base GL model so no power windows or sunroof or heated seats to break. Its been one of the most reliable vehicles Ive owned next to the 1983 Mazda B2200 diesel truck I bought new and retired in 1999 with 579k on it due to frame rust. That being said, there is no middle of the road with a VW. You either get a really good one, or a real piece of shit. Before the Golf I had a 2000 Beetle TDI I bought new and it was nothing but trouble. Made them take it back and gave me a 2001 Beetle TDI and that was almost as bad. Bought a beat up 98 Beetle TDI and drove it a year with zero issues before I bought the Golf in 2002 because I was tired of the build quality of the Mexican Beetle. I hope to run this car another 10 years if the body and parts supply holds out.

@DeanofMachines I don't know. You tell me? I feel bad for you. I have been in VW TDI world 14 yrs, owner, active on forums. Never heard of many engine failures, especially for unknown reasons. TDI has several weak points but not the short block. Two issues CP4 HPFP and the alternator/ ac accessory belt. HPFP hand grenades, contaminates fuel system with metal is expensive to repair. The belt (outside the timing belt cover) if it fails or jumps off pully, it can wrap around crank shaft. The timing belt cover at the crank shaft has a big gap. The accessory belt gets under the cover fouls the cogged timing belt (cams). This can cause engine damage, valves hit pistons. This is very bad. There are solutions, but regular inspections and maintenance is 99% cure. Many TDI's with 200k, 300K miles on the OD and still going strong.

@DeanofMachines I know. Why? I personally never heard of a CJAA, CBEA (or BRM, BEW, AJM, AUY)...losing oil pressure. I just Googled it for sanity a check. Nothing. I ask you why? Did you tear engine down? Look for cause? Look at oil pump keyway? Sorry, it's rare with the CJAA. Two? Bad luck, my friend. Not saying your experience is not real, but it's "not a thing". VW TDI engines are NOT known for lubrication/oil pressure/oil temperature issues. They do have potential issues, as I said. Oil pressure is not one of them. Why did it happen? Can't guess but stand by my advice, maintaince is key, mods at your own risk.

I think the failure I experienced did not have anything to do with the eco tune and delete parts on my daily commuted car.

@@DeanofMachines I paid 20k for 42 k miles. But I’m never selling it and treating it with absolute care. I hope to get 400 k out of it. I don’t beat my cars like most mechanics . It’s all about how far we can get with it with proper maintenance.

Thankfully for you, I’ve documented my first hand experience and some of this is avoidable. Just make sure to buy a cjaa car and do the filter housing o rings. Oh and all the other things ive listed. Have fun!

40mpg 😂 you must be thrashing it all the time no wonder it’s dead you can’t blame VW i had a VW bora after two years of trouble free motoring I got it remapped after a week it needed a clutch I had to upgrade the suspension the car lost nearly all its refinement so I got it put back to standard realisability returned

This is why you shouldn’t tamper with stock design.. I cringe when I hear people use the terms stage x tune or DPF / EGR delete.. I have same Jetta Mk6 CJA and 367,000 mi I have 3 timing belt jobs on it and did two DPF jobs but it’s all stock never touched anything.. cars runs as good as day one still.. you should trust the oil sending units .. and run vw507.00 only oil..a oil pump job isn’t too expensive or bad if you do it yourself.. sorry you seized it .. but you can probably rebuild it
