Thanks for sharing your experience with this motor. I will be looking at changing my oil cooler gaskets asap. I used my 2011 Golf TDI for lengthy commutes to work on the highway. Planning to do a delete and tune in the next month, but this is a good video to consider some additional maintenance items to address while we are in there.

Wow thats a bummer. I bought a CBBB DSG Passat 2009 in June and it had weird cough on idle. 205k km. Checked oil&diagnostic and nothing, drove and pulled very well. Out of nowhere it started to have a weird shake which got progressively worse and after 1 minute engine was dead. Still it had no lights, just the shake. Managed to restart it but when i looked at the engine it was shaking so bad. No fluids around the car. After it shut down it remained effectively dead. Went to mechanic and he diagnosed a faulty injector no.4. Replaced it and car started, with a terrible knock, just like in your previous video on track. Then he pulled the pan out and voila, metal everywhere, 1 rod loose just like here. Decided to get a new motor (used one anyway) with 185k from a Tiguan. It was a CBAB engine but it has the same stuff as CBBB except turbo&ecu. Pulled it out and put new one in, started the car, same engine cough. I have it on video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e17Vd6Sknbilrc0si=K4tRfteG4KwUC-ch Decided to test drive and after 2 minutes car shut down with coil flashing. It couldnt start. Went back to mechanic, code was Low fuel pressure. Checked everything and finally replaced the HPFP which was causing this. Got a used pump with 165k from golf VI CGF engine or something like that. Now it works perfectly. Spent around 1k euro for the troubles. Looks like you ran into a second bad engine there. I think my old engine had some sort of repairs probably after oil pump failure of some kind, since my engines have balancer shaft oil pump.

Very helpful! Thank you! I ordered the Stevenson delete and stage 1 tube. Very excited to get installed, but was worried about deleting because I see a lot of people having issue after they start modding these cars. Mine is a daily driver, 20k a year or so. So I want reliability and fuel mileage. Hoping this was the correct route to go!

As long as you know the oilchanges were taken care of, dont run it out past 8k, keep the RPMs down, dont drive it around corners too hard, make sure your oil cooler O rings are pliable, clutch isn’t slipping or coming apart, high pressure fuel pump isnt eating itself, oil pump isnt failing, oil bypass isnt plugged, guages are working correctly and your left front bumper light isnt out, You should be fine.

I have two TDIs, a 2006 Jetta with 339,000 miles and a 2012 Sportwagon with 169,000 miles. Only minor repairs on the old one and it still runs great. The newer one has been great as well. On both I have run Amsoil lubricants all the life of the first one and from 90,000 (when I got it) on the newer one. I saw you put 20W40 in that car and the 2.0 diesel specs call for a 5W30 meeting VW spec 504, 507. I found that spec using Amsoil European oil and have never had a problem even running 12 -15,000 miles between changes with an Amsoil filter. The older TDI needs 5W-40 that meets VW specs for that year. The TDI is not a race engine so on the turns it probably starved it of oil and with the sludge in there it imploded. TDIs require a little TLC and to keep them running right Amsoil lubricants. Both of mine are automatics and have been serviced every 50,000 miles with Amsoil DCT fluid and whatever filter I could find. Good luck with the little Sportwagon and I hope you can get her back up and running.

You don't need amsoil products to keep them running, it feels like I just read a huge ad for amsoil. You are right about oil specs and additives, it just doesn't have to be amsoil, so many tdi engines have made it over 500k miles and haven't seen a single amsoil product.

I put 40k miles on my first car, an '84 Volvo 244 intercooled turbo with an oil pressure gauge that would go to zero after warming up a bit. I never found out if it was just a bad sending unit or the B21ft was just indestructible, lol. Anyhow, I suggest you get a Sachs SRE DMF clutch kit for your TDI. The commonrails will eat the trans. with a SMF.
