Years ago, I could have purchased a 742 Woodsmaster in 25/06 for 125 dollars and me being an idiot who thought that everything should be in at least 30 caliber passed on it. Well it wasn't the first mistake I ever made 🙂🙃
@stevendonnalammar4422Ай бұрын
A Remington 742 was never offered in the 25-06 caliber so that one you looked at was probably a custom built rifle, that would have made it even more rare.

I’m using a .25-06 for the first time this gun deer season in WI. I love the light recoil and inherent accuracy of this round. The rifle likes the 120gr Fusions so I stocked up with enough to last a lifetime. Thanks for another great ammo testing video.

I've got a Remington 700 BDL in 25-06 I bought back in 1973. Sited in at 100 yards and went hunting. Shot 7 times that year took 7 deer. My gun loved the old 100 grain Remington cor lok bullets. Took more deer with that gun than all of the others put together. The boys at our deer came named it AT&T. They said when they heard that bacon frying they knew it was meat on the ground. We hunted a lot of open bean fields back then. Longest shot was 660 yards.

Great results. Appreciate the demo & data. 25/06 is a proven deer and antelope round that doubles as a great varmint option as will. Coyote and ground hogs at distance are in trouble with 75-90 grain varmint bullets. I had an older gentleman that worked along side me who used the 25/06 on Colorado elk hunts with success for many hunts. They went out every 3-4 years and he typically harvested a decent bull. I believe they were mostly 300-400 yard shots. I don't believe he ever lost an animal. Federal loading with a Nosler Partition of I remember correctly.

Good to see she groups well with different ammo. Mine is a 4 inch shooter with factory ammo. Reload for it, put tons of work in on the cases, neck size, outside trim, and trim to length. Tweaked the load 4831, settled on 100 grain BT. Tweaked the seating depth. Now i group 1 inch at 200 yards 😮. Antelope taken @ 285 yards, bang/flop. Leupold 6-18, fine crosshair, adjustable turret. Who remembers that scope?

I had Ruger number 1 in 25-06. Loved it. I also reload. Between me and my buddy that got me into reloading and precision shooting. He and I together spent around $500 on different powder, bullets and brass. Trying to get a great shot group with it. And no joke. The old Winchester silver box 120 gr factory bullets always shot a 3/4 inch or better groups. My buddy kept the rifle for over 18 months saying I will find a reload that out does the silver box. But, he failed. El cheapo ammo was the tightest grouping of them all. Only gun I ever owned that shot super awesome with cheap ammo.

The pragmatic side of me thinks all of the different ammo shot well. That being said its certainly not easy to discount this rifle as it was very forgiving to different loads from many different ammo manufacturers. Vanguards and Howas definitely have it going on in in mid price rifles that the high end rifle companies simply can't ignore. Great review !

Who tee who, want better groups with your guns? Try 100gr for the 25-06, most rifles twist rate are common with the grain of bullet, like 6.5 use a 140gr, 25-cal use 100, and 30-cal use 150gr. It will help little specially looking up each guns twist rate and a twist rate chart. Federal fusion and just Federal all good, hornady no good loading and bought, and Winchester you got lucky with that group.

You need to sit a Garmin or Labradar on the bench next to you. A lot of viewers enjoy knowing realistic velocity data when seeing videos. There is a lot of "blue sky" in some makers speed data. Your videos are excellent, satisfying all-meat no-filler. To make it a total-pro show, use the chrono. AND make sure to specify barrel length. I have a 25-06 with a 22" barrel and with my chrono, I get 200f/s less with some loads with just a 2" shorter than standard barrel.

I had a camo patterned Weatherby Vangaurd in 25-06 and got the same results with over 20 different loads. 2 touching or in the same hole and 3rd shot always a flier. 5 shot groups are even worse. I got rid of the rifle because of that. For me, if it can't consistently put 3 shot groups in a half inch cloverleaf or less, it's not accurate enough for me. Now my old Remington 700 long range rifle in 25-06 will circumcise a gnat at 100 yards as long as I do my part.
