Is it my imagination or are we beginning to pine for the beauty of a nice wood stock from the days gone by? There's something about gliding your hand over a nice fiddleback stock with a hand rubbed grain filled oil finish. I've never done that with a synthetic stocked firearm. Synthetic stocked units always instill a utilitarian perception, removing (if not destroying) the hunt's traditional feel. As nostalgic as it is SOMETHING has been lost in the chase for being "tacticool" (I have several myself but none of them EVER go on a game hunt).

John Browning, alone, is one person, who without him, may not have won WWl and WWll. With his .50 cal and .50 cal machine gun. Also he helped develop other machine guns. How can you not mention his iconic 1911. And at the end of it, didn't ask for excess amount of money for all his work. Truly an amazing gentleman!

My first rifle...this BBR chambered in 30.06. Still own it. Great gun. Extremely well built with a factory bedded 24in. barrel, an aluminum reinforcement inside the foregrip part of the stock, 9 locking lugs, and a 60 degree bolt throw. A bit on the heavy side...but a great shooter that consistently puts down a tight group (less than 1inch at 100 yards).

It is still tough to beat the looks of a nice wood stock and a blued barrel. It is crazy that there are new .5mm "steps" to fill the cartridge selection from .22 to .338 rifle. I suppose, if people are looking for 5% improvement from their "old" rifles, and don't reload, there is a market for manufacturing to fill.

Thank you, Dave! I've loved the .25-06 for years and now that I can afford to buy one, it seems that the gun, the rounds and the bullets are a bit hard to come by. Thank you for leaning on Hornady. They needed to hear this. I'm a few years over 39 myself, and I guess it gets easier with time to speak my mind. No apologies... just say what needs to be said. Thank you. Miles

Thanks for the video Dave. The very first animal I ever shot with a handload was a whitetail, using a 25-06 with a 100 grain ballistic tip. The deer ran a great distance before finding him(I was only 22 at the time, now in my early 50's😩) and I blamed the 25-06 itself, selling the gun shortly thereafter. As the years went by, I'd learned and discovered when using other calibers, that things like this happen, so I decided to give it another try, due to the fact that so many people speak so highly of it and I've yet to be let down since doing so. One thing you mentioned in this video that caught my attention was using a 100 grain bullet. When I began reloading, my dad and a couple of his hunting buddies that also handloaded for a 25-06, told me to use the 100 grain bullet, as opposed to the 117. Used and been successful with both in the field, but I lean more towards the 100 grain as well. In 2010, Sierra came out with a 70 grain Blitzking and I'm getting 3700fps using H4350's max load.

Depends on matching the shot placement, bullet construction, velocity, animal size and distance to target. Get those to all match up well and the 25-06 is golden indeed.

25-06 she's a shooter!!! John Browning made awesome firearms, my favorite being the 1911 in 45acp. That pistol just fits my hand like putting on an old pair of blue jeans! 30-06 is a great cartridge, but I believe they improved it with the 25-06 flatter shooting, less recoil & still does the job! Just like the 308 they improved it with the 7mm-08, my favorite cartridge!!

.25-06 is great, but it lacks the bullet weight to be considered a true all around cartridge, the 25-06 is better for the light stuff, but the 30-06 is far better for elk, moose and grizz!

Nice tutorial on my favorite cartridge! Still have the 700 ADL I bought as a teenager in the early 80's. The throat has worn to the point where lighter bullets don't shoot very well anymore, but a full charge of 7828 under a 120gr Partition still shoots lights out. The wildcat 25-06 really came into its own about 1940 when IMR 4350 was invented. I wonder what one of those 100gr Ballistic Tips would do to a rockchuck. Sounds like the making of a good video if you ask me. Thanks, Dave!

Well, your right. Looking at the Hornady app, the 110 eldx "on paper" or according to the app, is good for 700 to maybe 800 yards for deer. This depends on a person's standards. That 90 grain cx would be very interesting as well as the 134 eldm! Not what twist the 134 gr would need.

Glad you have a refined manner for your reloading process that works well for you. I don't trust my tools/scales/barrel/scopes/shooters fundamentals well enough to extra fine tune load development. Plus+ or minus- .1 to .3 of grain in bullets and or powder is acceptable to me for hunting accuracy. 1 MOA or better with low SD's and ES and consistency of shot placement are my goals. Was there ever a 25 caliber wildcat derivative based off of the 308 case that went into production?

.25-06 is still valid as a hunting round. My boss got an antelope with it.

You maybe right for the 100 grain bullets. But I think the last time I sighted for 1 inch high @100 yards was for the 110 grain as shown here.

Lever guns? I don't believe I see any videos on them here.

Sold all 4. Mine were limited to .30-30 cal. and for me, with the type of hunting and terrain I hunt in the 30-30 is too limited for scopes, saddle scabbards, reloading, bullet weights and bullet construction. Lever guns are perfect for open sights and brush bustin' hunting.

Velocity for the 25-06 with a 120gn. is around 3,050 fps. The 6.5 Creedmoor with a 120 grain is 2,985 fps. and has a higher sectional density bullets with higher BC. When the 25-06 comes out with a faster barrel twist, for heavier bullets then a better comparison will be made.

hey Dave beauty gun guy. I found one finaly and it should be here on Wednesday or Thursday next week but I notice it doesnt have much for a recoil pad I was wondering where you got you butt pad from and how would you rate the felt recoil of this rifle cheers

Recoil on a 25-06 is mild at 11-13lbs, about the same as 6.5 creedmoor. Recoil pad is a limbsaver slip on. It is removable and made of leather.
