Speaking of air rifles... In 1804, Lewis and Clark took a .46 caliber Girandoni air rifle with them on their little trip west. It took 1,500 strokes on the hand pump to fill the tank to 800 psi., and could shoot 80 rounds. It was the first repeating rifle to enter military service, holding 22 rounds of lead ball ammo in a tube magazine. Air rifles go back to around 1580. Thanks for all the fun videos you put out WTW!

The .22LR surprised me at 100 yards I've been shooting 22s since I was 9 years old I love the caliber. I probably killed a thousand plus grey digger ground squirrels (what we called them in Oregon) last century (1940s and early fifties until I joined the Marine Corps and traded my Remington pre model 12 pump for an M1 Garand. There's a number of things to consider with this kind of testing. The 22lr has a greater cross sectional density, the velocity is much higher, the lead is much harder and it's jacketed. The Avenger is a great rifle but really isn't ideal for shooting slugs. I doubt you're getting 800 fps. The comparison is about as expected. The advantage with the PCP here would be limiting penetration. You'll be dumping more in to the target rather than retaining energy as it passes thru. It's also much more quiet. Cool test and great video.

a .22 lead is NOT harder. and it's NOT jacketed. It's lightly plated which makes no difference in expansion. Only slightly reduces barrel fouling.

That was to be expected. The .22LR is usually a lot more powerful than small bore airguns. To get the same amount of energy from an airgun you will usually need a .30 PCP at least. A .35 PCP is usually on par with or more powerful than a .22LR Having said this, the regulated Air Venturi is probably not the best rifle for this purpose. I suppose an Airforce Condor or AEA Challenger Pro in .25 would hit harder and would come a lot closer to the .22LR. Most small bore PCP's just don't have the power to fire a .25 slug of that weight over 1000fps and I doubt this Air Venturi did more than 900fps for this slug.

I bet at 25 yards the FX slugs would compete closer to 22lr. At 100 yards those heavy 25 slugs won’t have enough speed to open.
@surreallife77711 ай бұрын
The consensus now is that slugs are more accurate past 75 yards especially if there’s a breeze and the slugs, hold more energy when hitting a target. Many of the FX gun pros are exclusively, shooting slugs now. I can’t seem to find any kind of test showing exactly how much energy a slug will produce compared to a pellet at 50 yards or 75 yards. Is it 25% more energy is it 50% more energy? Have you done any test on this? If not would you consider doing any? Basically, it would have to be done using plywood, ballistics gel, and possibly a hog skull to see the penetration compared to a pellet.

Ran into something really odd with the Diana Bandit PCP pistol I recently picked up. It's maximum rated velocity is 630 FPS in .22. As it's unregulated, I wanted to figure out its velocity curve. Somewhere between 130 and 140 BAR remaining in the tank, it did something rather surprising. I made one shot at about 650, and the next at over 680 FPS. I thought my chronograph was malfunctioning, so I tested it with another gun that I knew what to expect for velocity, and it was right in the ballpark. I rebooted the chrony and tested it again. Right on. Took my next two shots, the first hitting 730 FPS, and the next hitting 784. It dropped in velocity over the next couple shots back down to around 600. I'm going to have to test this again and see if it'll still shoot those ridiculous velocities. The gun's supposed to get a maximum of around 12 foot pounds, and that top velocity shot was 19.

I really didn't expect the .25 to underperform so badly. Might be too hard cast lead for the h.n. slugs
