Great Trout. What makes the video perfect, you don’t have some garbage music playing. Nothing better hearing the water flowing as you land that monster. Thanks for sharing

Also what makes this clip perfect is that you’re using a click and pawl reel and not some disc drag BS.

Caught the King of the pool! Fantastic trout, congrats! Always amazes me to see what big browns can live in a small creek!

How’d you catch that without looking like you walked out of fly fishing catalogue?!?! Great fish, and so cool that you found it in such a small pocket

Good job on getting that beauty back in the water quickly. Beautiful fish.

Thanks for all the love and hate! This fish was not a stocked fish. Fish in South Dakota are not pressured and have a high feeding rate. If you know the right spot, big fish are a dime a dozen.

I feel like theres not a fish alive over 6" that is not stocked here in the crowded midwest anymore, except maybe in the muddy Mississippi. Nice catch!

Yeah seems like 50% of fly fisherman enjoy the sport because they like telling other people how they should be doing it. Nice video and GREAT fish! Monster browns on tiny water has got to be one of the most fun ways to fish!

Great job netting that fat Brown without hurting him. And handling & releasing him gently so y’all can catch him again! The Small streams are my favorite for Big trout here in N.C. PA too. And always let those breeders live on. Tnx for sharing man!

I never understood why the Black Hills was never a go to destination for trout fishing. I grew up part of my life in Rapid City and used to fish below Pactola Reservoir for Browns back in the late 1960's and early 70's.

I routinely use my 3-wt in winter/spring with a nymph indicator rig and does fine. Obviously, I avoid false casting as much as possible and I use a wool/NZ indicator to offset weight and provide a nice soft presentation in small streams. Get em'!

I don't know what this creek/river is like but I'd guess when water was high he moved down below that culvert pipe and now can't get back into deeper water. Hopefully he'll move up or down with bigger runoff...
@wuya311007 жыл бұрын
I have yet to learn how to fly fish but I think I could cast it alright understand the line is the weight and all that. But the loose line and reeling is what looks tough. and 3wt? is that how small or heavy this rod is?
@efalkenberg137 жыл бұрын
Toto Tojo it's a smaller rod and reel with lighter line.
@mountainman4756 Жыл бұрын
Just takes time and practice. I can’t recommend fly fishing enough. I used to be a die hard conventional guy and now I have sold all my gear and switched to nothing but fly fishing. Can’t explain the feeling of catching a fish on a fly, especially one you’ve created.

the maxcatch ultralight fly rod is a good backpacking rod and you can get it cheap on Amazon.

Browns, at least where I live, are very wary of anything with a hook on it. I hooked one while ice fishing on the tiniest lure possible and it broke off at the hole. Most people never get the chance to even hook one.

A hare's ear is not a dry fly. That should be obvious since he's using an indicator.

Me too. What a load of panty waisters! Given the clickbait we are offered elsewhere routinely, why cavil at this? It's a nice fish from difficult looking surroundings, and since a man's span is 8-9 inches and the fish is pretty thin and long tailed I'm happy to applaud the cited 25 incher.
@beneque798 жыл бұрын
Very nice! (can't say the same about the camera work :D - just joking)
@martinramirez67023 жыл бұрын

@flyman4517 жыл бұрын
Creek looks like a mud hole. It is though a big brown. I think more like 23" but if he wants to say 25" that's okay. I do though think it is a stocked fish. The tail is beat up and it is just unlikely that a wild fish could grow that big in such a tiny piece of water as there isn't enough food.
@CookedToPerfection7 жыл бұрын
many fertile streams have fish at that size or bigger, seen 28" fish come out of holes that size. that wasnt a 25" like you said, but still a nice fish. definitely wild.
@flyman4517 жыл бұрын
Matt Duncan What makes you so sure it was a wild fish? Are you the fellow who caught it? sometimes when a stocked trout survives a couple of years it begins to look like a wild fish. I think that is fine but what I don't like is too see big hatchery trout that have all beat up tail fins and clipped pectoral fins.
@benhollinger26387 жыл бұрын
If you can't rule out natural reproduction doesn't occur...then you can't say its a stocker and he cant say it's wild. It has all its fins, there is for sure enough food, and his tail has a boo boo..could be anything. Who cares its a great fish and it took skill.
@plutoplatters7 жыл бұрын
oh I can tell.. it was 23.3

And honestly there is no reason to use an indicator in that skinny of water when you can see everything going on. You'd probably be better off without it because here's less chance of spooking the fish. Obviously that didn't happen in this case but it's a possibility.
