There was a lot right about it, but there was also a lot wrong with it. People would have considered it a good film and forgiven its mistakes, but it had the shadow of the first two looming over it. As a stand-alone, it would have been just another action movie with questionable plot, cool action and a not-too-deep-but-still-compelling emotional component.

JESUS what a shitload of blockbusters with meaningless stories made without any artistic intent. Cinema has gone to shit: it's always either a saga (because people are used to TV shows and cannot stand to 2 solid hours of story and that's it, it's over) or a fucking remake of some piece of shit from the 80's that reached a "cult" status for no reason whatsoever. In addition to that, as if it wasn't bad enough already, superheroes everywhere, all action movies are the same mix of superhero moves and shifi technologies. No wonder the only interesting film in 25 seemed to me Dunkirk. Honestly it's time we cinephiles start saying something about the fact that NO, not everything must be fucking franchise. I am glad there is no "North by northwest 2, the summer of the spies", no "7even 2 this times there are 8 sins" nor any sequel to "bicycle thieves" like "B.T.2: this time they steal motorcycles!"

Dude, relax, there are plenty of movies for "cinephiles" out there. It's normal that mainstream blockbusters be a reflection of the obsessions of our times. It was always like that. And you're dismissing an entire genre while there are legitimately good movies in the lot. Also, how is Dunkirk more original than any of these movies ? It looks awesome, but be honnest for a second, it's just another war movie, it looks like Saving Private Ryan. Ok, it's not a sequel, not a remake, but still, it's not original at all. People love sequels because they love to experience again what they liked before. Also, many people go to theaters only for entertainment and couldn't care less about artsy movies. Personnaly, I like both, and I want to watch as many different kinds of movies I can. These blockbusters don't take anything from auteurs and such, they're just intended for a different audience. I can watch a Transformers movie and a Kurosawa movie in the same day if I want. If you don't care about these movies, just don't watch them. And seriously, for CENTURIES we would only make art about greek gods, at least today we have more diversity.

every some time i come back to watch this and see if the movies here actually were good. so far THEY ALL WERE AMAZING. it's missing the Pony movie though. i know Adam has it on top of his list
