So I have friends that knew the Barnum family personally. They say that P. T. was the kindest man you would ever meet. That most of the stories about him were just that, stories. There were a few newspapers back in the day that didn't like the acceptance and openness he represented by having so many people with "differences" in his employ. So they set forth to discredit him with stories in the newspapers using yellow journalism. Most of the time he didn't bother in defending himself because it just gave him free advertisement and sold tickets even if the stories weren't true. So knowing that, who were the real scammers? Barnum or the newspapers that wrote false stories about him? Sadly this practice of yellow journalism is still going today.

i prevented my neighbor from buying $1'400 in gift cards back in 2018. she didn't believe me so i told her to ask her son about it before spending all that money. the next day she thanked me with a home cooked meal and a WHOLE homemade blueberry pie. she was told that she owed over $3'000 by the CRA, Canada Revenue Agency but she could get it taken care of for just $1'400 if she paid them that day.

Awesome AWESOME documentary on the mcmillioms thing I believe on Netflix... All on a slightly curious hunch from one FBi agent. No one supposedly wanted to even look at the case, then one guy did and BOOM. HUGE. Which caused my wife and I to say, if any agents are watching or listening ( 😉 ), just take the case "no one" wants... ya never know how deep and tremendous it can be--- and where ur career could be afterwards 😅

Have I ever fallen victim to a scam? Yeah actually I suppose so. I'm going to say it was 1983 or 1984. I was walking through my local town centre when a street 'chugger' approached me and gave me the full spiel about the necessity of donating to charity so that many poor souls could be saved. I was still in my late teens back then. So I suppose I was just bullied into feeling guilty and gave the guy £2. Of course I say 'bullied.' I was already a big ugly dude by that time. And already into football hooliganism. Even now at 59 I'm an intimidating sight with my shaved head still. Best £2 I ever spent. Back at home I took stock of my attitudes towards doofuses approaching me in the street and attempting to con me out of my hard earned beer money. For all that in this instance it was literally just a couple of pints of beer money. (only just about £2 for 2 pints of lager in '83 I'd say from long lost memory.) Never given a penny to charity since. And by that I don't mean never given money to those in need. I'd give my last £10 to a friend who I genuinely knew needed it. And often have over the years.
