Angkor Wat is BEAUTIFUL. Visited in 2015, we went around to all the temples, it's interesting to think that it's the largest religious structure in the world. It's hundreds of acres in area, and you do NOT realize just how massive it is until you are walking through it. lol, I remember when we had gone through the buildings on the outer wall, I thought "Oh, that was pretty cool, nice mid-sized temple". NOPE. The main structure is in the middle and it's HUGE. But so amazing. Just bring earplugs, the cicadas were deafening.

Define educated. I wasn't fortunate enough to have a regular form of schooling and have no academic qualifications. I'm skilled in trades, I can make things, fix things and above all not from choice I had to adapt to survive with nothing but the clothes on my back. I'd now consider myself reasonably successful my channel shows this. I can guarantee anyone who thinks their university education would help them survive the 3 years of hell I enjoured would be dead within a week. I always thought women wanted men. What would you rather someone who could feed you keep alive and keep you safe in an extenuating circumstance or someone who can recite Whitman?
@juliaconnell7 күн бұрын
@michaelcordes *exactly* my thinking Michael - I'd much rather have a *man* who knows how to fix things, solve things, problem solve than any 'highly educated' guy without a lick of common sense or practical knowledge. plus 'intelligent' takes many forms - the standard "IQ" test tests a very LIMITED skill set (basically maths & reasoning) - only a tiny aspect of what I call 'intelligence' - all kinds of intelligence that are real practical and/or creative - I think it's really sad that so many people who 'fail' at academic stuff feel _less than_ as a result - what a load of shite. knowledge, expertise, intelligence takes many forms - many many forms was really proud to spend many years of my life working with & supporting the 'industry training' sector - seeing people from builders, mechanics, agriculture, horticulture, whole range of sectors (51 when I started)- 'graduate' with university level qualifications (or higher) - who *demonstrated* their skills, ability & talent - in a practical way

The name translates to "Who is this Fool who does Not Know what a Mountain Is".

It used to be be tradition here in the States to bell the newlywed couple like they do in France. I think that’s what it was called. I remember as a very young child going with my parents and neighbors and belling a newlywed couple in our community. We banged on pots and pans, sung, and demanded that the new husband come out. Which he didn’t. My parents, those neighbors, and the couple have all passed on now, but what a memory!

I had a wonderful apartment on upper Ashbury Street, two blocks south of Haight Street, up a big-ass hill, and in back of the building to boot-so on days the Sunset District wasn’t too foggy, it was possible to see the Farallons from my bedroom and living room windows. The best part was that for a few days in spring and fall, the sun set directly behind them, and that was utterly fantastic!

Speaking of heroes. Not all wear capes or have martial art skills. Some are armed with a phone and their superpower is paying attention. I work retail. We’ve had several repeat shoplifters who steal thousands of dollars of merchandise in one go. One day we got hit by our shoplifter we’ve named Tall. He’s very tall. While I’m on the phone with police a customer calls saying he’s at the local park. I relay the message to police. Talk gets arrested. Upon investigation he didn’t just steal from us but various other retailers. One call now several dozen crimes are solved.

Under "We've Seen Activism Backfire" - An original Star Trek episode, entitled "The City on The Edge of Forever," starring Joan Collins as a peace activist, fits this category. In an alternate timeline, she led a peaceful protest that wound up delaying the US's entry into World War II, allowing Germany to win. The ultimate result was the Enterprise didn't exist anymore. Kirk and Spock, stranded on a planet with a "time gate" (that McCoy went through on a drug trip), have to go back in time and prevent McCoy from saving her from a traffic accident. The peace movement ends, thus allowing the US to enter the war, help defeat the Axis powers, and let Starfleet eventually come into existence.
