My first impression of this Craftsman house is quite favorable, but there are some surprising missteps inside. Just inside the entrance should be a place for coats (other than a coat-tree) and a bench. The glass-paneled barn door with a view into the downstairs toilet made me laugh! The dining space is huge, while the kitchen is miniscule. There's enough square footage in that part of the house to make a decent kitchen, a laundry room, a pantry and a powder room. Upstairs, a giant plant occupies space that could allow a shower along with a tub in the upstairs bath. But the bedrooms are a generous size, and they have access to that delightful porch. With some reworking, this could be a great plan. I hope you will take it down, make some revisions and repost it.

You certainly captured the charm of a craftsman and modernized it, making it perfect for a young family. Lovely. And upstairs could be a sleeping porch.

I’d definitely combine the kitchen and pantry, and do a stacked laundry area. I think the plumbing would line up with the half bath and the bath upstairs. And change the powder room door, please. Otherwise, a great little house!

Its a cute little home. However, I would have made the dining area smaller and added to the kitchen area. I would also get rid of that door into the kitchen and made it open, a rounded doorway. Love both porches!

I love everything about the porch, balcony, living room, dining room, the entire upstairs, the decor, and the curb appeal. I love craftsman style! The way you did the closets upstairs is very good. The kitchen and powder room , though - if I were to build this, I might redesign the kitchen and pantry, tweak the powder room, and try to find a place for laundry. The big pantry would a great for a larger home, but out of scale for the size of this small house, taking up too much room out of the kitchen. A small pantry can be simple floor to ceiling cabinet, it doesn't always need to be a whole room. It just depends on the house size. It would be better to make the kitchen bigger even if you need to lose the walk-in pantry. Having the dishwasher inset in a cabinet on the opposite wall from the sink without any counter nearby would make it hard to use. The British put their washing machines in the kitchen, which I find odd, but it might be the best solution in such a small house. Or - add a laundry/back entry if you don't mind making the house a little bigger. About the powder room door - It is not private enough. Sliding barn doors are only visual screens, with no barrier for sounds and odors. With glass in the door, it isn't even a visual barrier. How about a solid swinging door, swinging into the living room, since there is no room for it to swing into the powder room? I know that is not great either, but it would be a big improvement, imho. You are learning and improving all the time!

I love the door on the kitchen, and the pantry. The dining room is large enough to shift the kichen a bit to enlarge it with more counter space. I lovethe back door to give easy access to a food and herb garden. Really, a window into the powder room!? The house has an Old Fashioned vibe that is relaxing after a stressful world. With a few tweaks it would be perfect.

I just noticed after looking at this again a year later, that you have used the old, metal, push-button switchplates in all the rooms! I grew up in a kit home with those. It has little to do with the design but I do prefer them. Thanks!

Sweet Jasper, I loved it but Bobrogers99 has top ideas!! I do love the sliding door for the downstairs toilet, it's fun and different! You can hang a fun short curtain on the inside. Or stick a pretty foil on the inside! I would do something like that cause really love that door, sorry folks! That gives a bit of privacy ;-) Maybe the piano could be left out, space saving?? I know you design for countries other than the west, countries where the weather is a bit better, that is why no hallway, is it not, sweetie? Kitchen is indeed small but it is a small (tiny) house! I would place a shower in the bathroom but that is a personal choice. Instead of that plant you could also place a cabinet or so, that is also the choice of the person who is gonna live there. Sweet and spacious house. I absolutely adore the bright living room w/ gorgeous fireplace. Really like the private balcony off the bedrooms upstairs, too. Unlike many others, I do love the glass paneled door to the powder room! It's actually brilliant. It continues the theme of the rest of the rooms windows, plus it allows natural light in. It's definitely something I would do. C'mon folks, Jasper is trying to get you to think outside the box! All you do is get yourself a can of Rustoleum Frosted Glass 😎 However......that kitchen/pantry needs to be gutted and unified. Sorry 😊

Outside is beautiful, but the kitchen is too small. It also lacks space for preparing food. Glass door to the bathroom is a no-no and should be relocated for privacy. Also the door to the outside in the upstairs room I change for a window.

Beautiful home but kitchen is to small . No place for a washer and dryer . Who was it who thought the slider door on the half bath down stairs needed windows in it so someone could walk by and look in as someone was doing there duty . Might as well of left the door off .

Not bad, but a few things changed would be preferable to me. 1. Get rid of the butler’s pantry and add that space to the kitchen with additional counter space and cabinetry-one floor to ceiling height cabinet for pantry space. 2. Dishwasher should be next to the sink to keep from dripping water all over the floor. 3. Although the second bedroom could obviously be used as an adult’s bedroom, that exterior door in a child’s room is made of nightmares! Most of the other things I noted were simply personal preferences.

I would combine the pantry and kitchen, and the have the door to the downstairs bathroom off the kitchen instead of the living room (yuck lol). Why does the bathroom door have a window anyway? Like whaaa? Other than that it's beautiful. I love the shared porch especially.

Window in the 1/2 bath off the living room...WHY ? I know it can be corrected at time of construction but why put in vedio, weird. Over all nice, with some tweeks.

The kitchen is too small, no one wants to sit on patio furniture in the LR, with no lamps to read by, lose the space wasting plant and put shelves at the top of the stairs, or a cubby and print. No one wants to wash portieres from the dining room door, or have a toilet off the living room, or fall over a plant in the bedroom doorway.
