Great video! I had conceived the Shang as being originally built in 2286. I should note here as well that CBS did include this as part of the Titan legacy with this bit of canon history: "NCC-1777, Shangri-La (MK II) Class. Launched in 2290 under the command of Captain Saavik. Known for its multiple encounters with the Klingon Empire, including the Eco-Port Takeover and Horizon colony rescue. The Titan became Starfleet’s flagship under the recommendation of Captain Sulu of the Excelsior. The Titan was instrumental in maintaining frontier stability before the Khitomer accords and subsequent launch of the Enterprise-B." While the Neo-Constitution class Titan resembles its earlier design ancestor, it is considerably larger and completely different vessel.

Thank you very much! I thought about following your story tidbits for months before actually coming up with this story... You see, I love the design, and wanted to not only honor it, but you as well as making it a contender for the New Connie, as it was THAT important! I also wanted to give it a long service history that rivaled the Connie Refit... And the way I see it, this class would have been constructed up to the turn of the Century! So it doesn't interfere with Saaviks Starship Canon :) You are truly amazing at what you do, and hope my reasoning makes at least some sense to you lol

This is a beautiful design and the shape of the neck and primary hull definitely look as if she would have been built with early traits of the Excelsior while retaining elements of the Constitution, the angled fan-like saucer section almost reminds me of the Miranda-class and the dual sensor domes or impulse crystals underneath the "handle" of the saucer gives her a unique design. The idea she lasted from the Enterprise's return for refit until early 2300s definitely makes it seem like she could have been a useful vessel and linking it with the new Picard-era ships is a nice touch.

A cargo ship? This ship, if I'm looking at it right, has not one but three torpedoes launchers on the front of the saucer section. If true, then this would be one nasty cargo ship to go up against.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios23 күн бұрын
Yes, but not at first, and you have to consider the age it was in when it became a cargo vessel! It is more than likely though containing 3 launchers, that they were out of date by the early 24th Century... And becoming a cargo vessel, mixed with the peaceful galactic mood at the time would probably guarantee those tubes were never updated to fire newer torpedoes! So in essence, the threat she posed was probably far less than you're thinking!
@KertaDrake23 күн бұрын
Could actually make a great ship for sensitive cargo runs that don't necessitate a modern ship, but do need something that can stand up to higher-tier pirate vessels and either turn the tables or survive long enough for help to arrive!

Obviously, I'm not expecting you to have the explanation that the original designers had for the name, but I assume that Shangri-La was a choice of name at least in part thanks to the USS Shangri-La, one of the Essex-class carriers of WW2. Would fit with the other names of that era, after all.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios23 күн бұрын
Actually, my understanding is that the name was picked due to the technological advancement of the class over the TOS era, as walking onto this ship was akin to entertaining Shangri-La in its "hey day..."

I prefer the design to uss enterprise aleast tos design. I like it better than the uss excelsior. Nothing beats the galaxy class design still
@jameslewis263522 күн бұрын
This design seems like a lighter alternative to the Excelsior class vessels. When you look at it as a fleet with the Miranda acting as a light cruiser, the Shangri-La taking the mid point and the Excelsior being akin to a battlecruiser (in military roles) this makes a lot of sense. Add in the Constellation class which would probably be great in a destroyer/scout role (due to its ability to cruise at high warp speeds and heavy torpedo compliment) and there you have a pretty well balanced fleet with the only role left unfulfilled being that of a battleship (although I suspect the Ambassador class might be the eventual fit for such a role).
@pyronuke476822 күн бұрын
I think the ship looks far better in TMP livery than in Picard livery. Call it a personal grievance, but I do *not* like the look of the Neo-Connie; it just feels like it's trying way too hard to imitate classic Trek. (I'm also totally not salty at the executive decision to tanalize STO players like myself witht he Enterprise-F, then turn around and chuck it out the window so to speak.)

A really nice-looking ship blending elements from the Constitution, Excelsior and an Akyazi but still allowing her to be her own ship. The colour scheme also gives her real character. It’s a shame this class never got its chance to shine in the later 23rd Century.
@xheralt22 күн бұрын
Wait, isn't "replacing the Constitution class" supposed to be what the _Excelsiors_ were for?! Four digit NCC's were hitting 28xx (e.g. USS Stargazer) by the first third of the 2300's (Old Calendar), so 25xx NCC's should be IMO biased closer to that and later than 2370's/80's. Shangri-La's secondary hull design _follows_ Enterprise-B's (and precursors TNG aesthetics), providing another reason to bias the class a little later in the timeline. Shangri-La's strike me as a sort of lighter/faster variant of the ENT-B refitted Excelsiors. Less internal volume, less cargo space, maybe more suited for interior patrols than outward exploration?
@TriAngulumAudioStudios22 күн бұрын
No! The Excelsior was to replace the Constitution Class Refit, not the Constitution Class! Also, Registries are Meaningless, please refer to kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4u3mohria12m7c to better understand Registries, and why they can never be used to determine age of a vessel!

@TriAngulumAudioStudios22 күн бұрын
First off, no it isnt... The Class wasn't the flagship, the Titan was! IE the Constitution Class, not the Flagship Title... In future, please pay better attention to the video, rather than attempting to further the narrative you want to push! 🙄
