while there is still carbon left on the brushes what you have to worry about is brush chattering because the springs get weaker and apply less force to keep them against the com bars, so when you see it sending lots of sparks, that is why

They sit back near the bearing end you can kind of see them, they still had plenty of material. Gun still works but the battery contacts are getting loose.
