Hey Alaska, I got that information for you. Tikka T3 ultra lite 243 Winchester Barnes TTSX 80GR and 39.0 gr. of IMR4064 chronoed first shot 3308 fps. Second 3295 fps. Third shot 3292 fps. Lapua brass looked great. Primers still rounded, (CCI). Accuracy wasn't as good as 38gr. but it was windy and the weeds were blocking out the target. I know, excuses, excuses, but guessing where a 3 inch bullseye is at 100 through hay is a task. 🤷‍♂️ Sounds good anyway! I think if I bump .2 or .3 grain it'll pass 3300. At this same test today I shot Winchester Super X silver box 80gr and 100gr. The 80 was dead nuts on target with my 85gr Gameking 38gr IMR4064 but chronographed at 3400 average. Which surprised me. Accuracy was were I could see the target well and it was 3/4 inch group of 3 shots. Same ammo only Winchester 100gr. Chronographed an average of 2964 fps. With a little tighter group of 3 than the Winchester 80gr. I'll load and test another batch of Barnes and IMR4064 39.2 - 39.5 gr and retest. .2 should break 3300 though and it has a pretty good thump and bark for 243 at 39.0gr. Temperature was 70's, sunny with wind today.

@@holmesfamily2058 The ammo is very consistent and is a big part of it. The only Vor-TX ammo I shot was three years ago in a 300 Win Mag, 180 grains TTSX. The speeds were extremely consistent and above the 2960 fps advertised on the box. Chronographed at 3020 fps at the muzzle wiith a Magnetospeed. I put about six or seven rounds on a steel pig at 300 yards. It seemed that every shot was on top of the previous one. I would say it wasn't bigger than a 2 inch group, maybe even less but since it wasn't on paper I am not sure. It really is excellent off the shelf ammo.

Some people say the barnes pass through and do not dump enough energy into the vitals… this has not been my experience. I harvested a nice WT buck last year with a .308 dia 150gr TTSX going 3300fps at the muzzle… hit the deer at approx. 120m with 3000fps retained velocity… perfect double lung through the rib cage. The lungs were reduced to blood soup, completely obliterated. Most notable was the fact that the entry hole and exit hole were the same diameter in the rib cage… around 2-3inches. The barnes TTSX and LRX bullets expand instantly and rapidly at high velocity… in fact, they expand more rapidly than cup and core bullets…. Whilst retaining all of their mass. Perfect terminal performance. I think the key is to ensure that the retained velocity of the bullet is above 2000fps at the target.

@@AlaskanBallistics hmm,never had one fail ,always pass through with massive exit on blacktail shot at close range,for a 180 to fall below expansion threshold is way farther than I would shoot,those ballistic tips only raise bc slightly and chances are the bullet would perform near identical at hunting ranges if it was removed prior to the shot.

@frankreinhardt441
@frankreinhardt441 2 жыл бұрын
@@AlaskanBallistics Yeah, the TSX does require more velocity. You probably need a 140 TSX out of the 7mm Rem mag at that distance. I shoot the 160gr TSX in my 7mm STW and never had a expansion issue. I shoot the 110 TSX out of my 270 Win and a 120 TSX out of my 280 rem. Never tried the TTSX or the LRX, got some TTSX to try but havnt got around to it yet. That little bit of better B.C. doesnt mean squat till after 500 yards or better. Not as far as drop is concerned anyway. Drop is constanent, wind is the one you have to worry about but at distance, the wind maybe totally different from where you are shooting from and at the target. On game I keep shots under 500 yards for that reason alone.

Love the LRX🥰 But want to see some real excitement? Load the 308 with the 110 M/LE Tac TX (308 win RL-7 42.5gn ) 3700fps = massive destruction= unreal penetration and massive terminal destruction! Use at own risk is the safety answer of course! But 2 Bull Moose by my 13-year-old daughter has me convinced Lighter is sometimes worth exploring. Note, both moose was shot in the lung and heart area! But then again many moose are taken with a Bow an Arrow! So placement of shot is crucial!

Good video, thank you for sharing! I've tested Barnes and had failures in their 30 and 22 caliber options. Either no expansion or overexpansion with the petals falling off. No failures in their .277 offering as of yet in their 110 and 129gr offerings. Try the Lehigh Defense 127gr Controlled Chaos in your 270. The BC is nearly identical to the "Long Range" Barnes (1" difference in wind drift at 500) and the terminal effects are far more impressive. Just did a video on the 127gr-CC you could check out on my channel. I'll do the 129gr LRX in gel soon!

@@AlaskanBallistics Off the top of my head it was the TSX 62gr in 223 which failed to expand on a cull doe at ~50 yards and a small feral hog at ~12 yards. (follow up shots were with a 65gr gameking on both, I may have gotten a bad batch?) and the 130gr TTSX had separation from a 308 into ballistic gel at 75 yards. My Lehigh 127-CC load is overbook from Lehigh Defense's load data but under book in Barnes load data for the same weight of Ramshot Hunter seated 3.340 OAL in R-P cases (which has slightly more capacity than others). Lehigh's max book charge is 57gr Hunter. I'd gladly message you the charge but I'm not sure if I should publish it here. I'm shooting a Stainless Tikka T3x.

I'd like to know how the bullet performs out to distance of maybe 300-400 yards. I shoot a .270 also and different bullets open differently at different velocities. They're designed for a speed range and I wish they(Barnes) was a little more forthcoming about it.

So in my experience with 7mm Rem Mag, 139gr lrx opened up really well. I did not find the bullet, even though it didn't pass through. Bullet went straight the heart. Cow caribou 459yrds. I also shoot a cow caribou at 288 yards with barnes lrx in 6.5 creedmoor 127gr. One shot straight through the heart, bullet curved up and tore up the lungs before exiting the top on the spine. She flopped her neck once and expired. My wife shot a small bull caribou with the 139gr lrx through the neck at 340 yards. Dropped so fast we didn't see it fall. Found the blue tip in the neck meat, that's it. Tore up the neck so it obviously expanded well. That's the extent of my experience with it.

@@AlaskanBallistics That's the bottom line when it comes to bullet performance. We try and pick a bullet that will work in our experiences as hunters. I haven't used solid core bullets much. Most of my experience comes from partitions because they always work. The elk, deer, and antelope I've shot have all expired pretty fast. I would like the same performance with a solid core. Thanks.

You'll get it down to about 1800 to 2000 fps with the lrx. Push it fast

I’m getting 3200fps out of my 270 Winchester M 70 with a 24 inch barrel and 129gr lrx with reloader 26. 3000 ft./s with a 150 gr Nos Accubond and rl26. There’s no difference between a seven mag with 160s and the 270 with 150s doing the same speed. Only on paper. or those lrx in those 2 loads.

Maybe velocity variation is caused by cold ammo. First round seems to be slowest. As rifle and ammo warms, velocity goes up. Might try putting 4 rounds inside shirt to warm up. First shot will still be cold barrel, maybe use cheap load to warm barrel.

@@AlaskanBallistics have you ever pulled 3 rounds apart to weigh powder charges? If powder charge is not very accurate can cause large variation in velocity. Great chance to check quality control.
