VERY interesting Shawn! Watching them amble out of the trap, the little rascal at 04:30 was puffed up from ingesting too much peanut butter and could barely walk. I've seen this trap tested before, and it is a mouse-catching machine. The closer the mice get to the bait, the deeper they've entrapped themselves. It's narrow to reduce its footprint, and the opening hugs along any wall, placing it in the route of mice travel. For a serious infestation, a couple of these should greatly reduce their numbers in days. The $278 price seems greatly inflated by resellers.

@Flying lead Saw someone mention in the bowl trap vid, he caught at least 27 mice in one night in the chicken coop while chickens were staring at the mice. They probably ate some of the mice too so who knows how many there were. The rest of the world has to play catch up to the amazing simplicity of a slippy bowl with oil.

I was visiting a friend who owns a ranch in New Mexico and he built a similar trap except it is self-emptying. It operates using the same sort of ramp which drops down under the weight of a mouse but holds the mice in the other end. It was set up in the bunkroom in a rock barn and I got to witness the self-emptying feature. I was getting ready for bed when about a four foot long bull snake came out of a space between two rocks in the wall; it checked the trap and found it contained a mouse so he crawled in, pushing the ramp down, caught and swallowed the mouse. Then he backed out and went back through the hold in the wall and disappeared.

Another interesting vis Shawn and it gets a paws up from my cat who enjoys watching the mice even more than I do, she's a killing machine, raised 2 kittens on what she could catch in the wild before coming to my house.

I think it helps a lot that you put pet mice in the traps before you set them for wild ones. Supposedly rats and mice are super weird about sents and oils and apparently 1 makes the others more likely to come in that area.

Hey! Glad to watch the video that you test mouse trap from China. I suffered a lot of mouse problem this winter. I live in China. And I think you're probably cheated by the amazon seller. I find the price is only 198 CNY to get one in here. That means about 30 USD, one tenth of the price you got this one from Amazon. I don't think the shipping fee would cost that much.

whats the best bang for the buck rat trap that Shawn has reviewed or made? got a variety of smaller to some pretty big rats. so hoping I can catch the small ones as well as the HUGE ones that are now coming into and around the parents chicken coop due to access to the chicken feed. I would also hope there is an easy way to catch them and humanely as possible dispose of them. thanks for suggesting some options if you reply!

If you add a little cayenne pepper powder to the chicken feed, the rodents will leave it alone. It adds nutrients to the feed. The chickens don't taste the heat of the spice. The rodents can't stand it.
