A former child prodigy in China, Zhang Xinyang, is living off his parents' allowance and refuses to work. Despite early academic success, Zhang's struggles with standardized tests prevented him from attending top universities. Now 28, Zhang depends on his parents for an allowance of 10,000 yuan ($1,400) every two to three months and 2,200 yuan ($307) for rent. Zhang claims to be content with his "frugal" lifestyle, consuming expired food and vegetable dishes to keep his spending down.
