There has been different opinions about this figure, like split in two. But I LOVE this figure! It literally has no shrink wrappinh at all! And it looks so natural. But the not sharp teeth part is probably the only nitpick I have. I cant wait to be able to buy this!

T.Rex teeth aren't particularly pointy at the tip- this is so that the teeth are able to resist extreme forces delivered from the jaw muscles. However, T.Rex teeth are serrated.

At first I could understand the polarised opinions on this figure because I was 50/50 on it myself, but now that I’ve had time to think over it I cannot understand how anyone could not absolutely LOVE this figure! The proportions are perfect, the lips are just right, the pose is perfectly naturalistic, and the colouration has really grown on me. I can definitely imagine such camouflage being especially perfect for nocturnal hunting as is depicted in Prehistoric Planet. Will have to get my hands on one as soon as it becomes available down here in the antipodes! Also I wouldn’t mind seeing reviews on figures past their release date, as long as you have the interest and time with all the new releases coming out. I finally got the Eofauna Paleoloxodon and Deinotherium in the mail today and am thoroughly impressed! I think the Eofauna Diplodocus and PNSO Saurophaganax will be next on my list.

I guess that's the amazing thing... people can look at the same thing, put it through their personal filter, and end up with very different feelings and emotions about it! I don't recall a single other model, even T Rex, that is as polarizing as this one! And honestly, I did not like it at first when I saw the release images, but it quickly grew on me, and I find it surprising more leeway isn't given this model. This isn't of the same class and price tier as a PNSO. EoFauna have really given us the probosicdeans no one else has! I wonder which is their next. I've always wished they might tackle Stegotetrabelodon!
@MrRajithasandaruwan

Eofauna is one of my favorite companies, mainly because of their proboscideans. Even though I don't have any figures from this company, I still intend to acquire those proboscideans someday. And now look at this beauty. I'm so in love with this figure. I've seen most of our collectors bash and look down on this wonderful figure without even seeing a valuable review video like this. But now I'm sure they will think twice before speaking. As I heard, Eofauna is still a small company, but they are working so hard to make it big. So I thoroughly believe that they deserve so much love and respect for their hard work. And about the color, I'm sure you know by now that I love my dinos black and dark. So this is a pleasant surprise. That curious look is so natural. And that tells us that even the mightiest and most ferocious T-rexes can be curious and alarmed about the things they find questionable. This T-rex is the goodest boy. Oops, sorry, goodest girl. A wonderful piece for all the collectors. And your review reminds them that if a collector misses this, they are going to regret it. Thank you so much for clearing the water for us collectors, my dear sir. Only you can clear and clarify all the misconceptions these collectors have. Eagerly waiting for the next review. 🖤

Sue brings my T-Rex collection to 4 now, complementing my original Papo standing brown, (my first of yet another hobby!), Queenie from Rebor, & PNSO Wilson. Sue is just beautiful, and really looks like a living animal. My fav Rex and one of my collection favs. Great stand too, that could easily be upgraded a little with some extra detail when I get time... Only rewatching this great review now, and I grabbed Sue for a quick check. Only whilst holding under very bright LED desk lamp did I notice the nice stripe of crimson on her nose after having her for months!

what a handsome model! ever since it got teased around a year and a half ago i been eagerly waiting for this sculpt to get on the market. When i first saw the promotional images for this figure i immediately fell in love, And knew i would have to add this to my theropod shelf! great sculpt, perfect scale, fine and plausible colors, well researched, what's not to like? i have seen a lot of mixed feelings on this model, from the colors to the head to even the proportions, and a majority of the people complain about the head sculpt and the addition of 'cheeks' on this model, and i have to say i am not really bothered but that reconstruction, plenty of avian theropods like parrots, parakeets or certain others have these sort of cheeks for certain ecological preposes and it's not too impossible some theropods may have had it as well! while sure it is speculative, to complain about colors either being dull or flashy or plausible reconstructions isn't really valid when you say "it just doesn't look right", it is fair to have your own opinion about it but when it comes to paleontology you have to be very professional on you takes if you want your argument to make sense. I really like the colors of this model not to mention! it could very easily suit the environments of lush floodplains and forested habitats as T.rex as we all know did live in that habitat, It's also very satisfying to see the lips fully close! very nice. great review as always!

Thank you for your detailed comments and thoughts, I appreciate them! Indeed, this has been one of the most polarizing model; even more so that the Cameron and the Wilson. That jaw articulation is a big deal, but I credit Rebor for trying something a little different. Colouration-wise I actually talk a bit about in my Part 2 HLG Mamenchisaurus review (ignore what I was saying about imbricate vs tessellated scales!) and Dr Mark Witton has written at length about that on his blog. As for head proportions, again people have in their minds a certain standards, and since I know the least about theropods than almost any other clade I shan't comment, except to say that we now have a whole bunch of T Rex skulls and you can appreciate there is quite a bit of difference in proportions. I would trust that the people behind EoFauna have at least as much knowledge as the loudest critics, and so may be equally valid in their interpretation. But as I've said elsewhere, as collectors with our own opinions, get what you like, pass on those you don't like. That's the best policy live-and-let-live policy I think! 😁

Yes it is a compromise that was made, which is always a consideration with any kind of articulation. I still applaud for EoFauna for trying something different. When I saw release images, I thought it might look like a ventriloquist dummy, but in hand, and after having it for some time, I hardly even register it. But yes, if you are really into anatomy, then the lack of that bulge may bother you.

Kinda late but finally watched this, and it's confirmed my musings about Eofauna's Sue - it's a terrific model. The jaw articulation and lip seal/engineering is what's especially impressive to me. Plus it looks really good next to Wilson! For some reason Cameron is a lot bulkier than this model, despite being also based off Sue, so the size disparity may be a bit too much for spme. Now let's see who else comes up with a flagship lipped T.rex next...

i really gotta say this review did change my view of this model, i don't dislike it as much and it's really nice representation of a lipped trex, personally though i will stay with my PNSO cameron as i still prefer the more reptilian and classic look in the jaw reconstruction (the exposed jaw muscles) even if it's not really inaccurate nor we have evidence for it and the more bland and fitting for an animal of that size coloration definitely though this is a very nice representation of a tyrannosaurus

One thing I've learnt as I did a lot more reading on Tyrannosaurus is that with all the skulls we have, there is quite a bit of variation in skull proportions, and so I would not definitely dismiss any model based on that, especially as theropods aren't my strongest suit, and given the pedigree of the team behind EoFauna. That aside, this has certainly been the most polarizing of all the models I've reviewed so far! It's amazing how many people are firmly on either side of the fence on this one! 😃

I just bought that exact figure from the gallery of paleontology and anatomy in the Jardin des Plantes yesterday because it was the only one I can find in all of Paris. It is by far the best T. Rex figurine I had ever bought so far in terms of scientific accuracy, with only the Favorite Collection T. Rex I have coming in as close as possible to rivaling it. I also have the original colored Safari Ltd feathered T. Rex and Papo’s brown running T. @@DinosDragons Yes indeed, I still have the Favorite Co T. Rex. I have a feeling it’s now impossible to buy that one these days due to how rare it may be. Personally, I’m not a fan of the avian rictus they depicted for the mouth. Otherwise the muscle and skeletal anatomy is quite good. Something I want to note with using varanid lizards (and by extension squamates) as reference is that they don’t have rooted teeth and have a lot of cranial kinesis similar to snakes, which requires extensive gingiva to act as a buffer. Theropod skulls are comparatively rigid and have socket set teeth, as well as all of archosauria. I don’t think they would have had as extensive of lip tissues and some experts have suggested.
@JL-ux9dk
@JL-ux9dk 8 ай бұрын
I agree with this assessment, varanids such as the Komodo have a mouth designed to gobble up whole prey, (there are videos of monitor lizards swallowing a small goat whole without chewing it) as do constrictor snakes,... Tyrannosaurs, however, had to dismember their prey and crush the bones, it does not seem very logical that they had the same chewing system

like a tribute to the original battat colour scheme. phenomenal model, looks like a real animal not a monster, with the Jaw open the handling of the inside of the mouth is even better than PNSO.

It’s a nice figure, but it doesn’t feel that new to me because renders of the sculpt were shown over a year ago. In the meantime Cameron stole its thunder I feel. So I have no need to add this Rex to my collection as well.

The problem with that is that tyrannosaurus had very long teeth there is only one monitor lizard that I know that has teeth sticking out only by a little. I think it’s the Nile monitor now even though that I don’t care about lip vs lipless debate anymore I might get this figure that way it, and pnso Cameron will hog each other out to stop with the argument because until we find a mummy we will know the truth according to Dr Thomas Carr and dr Stephen Brusatti

I absolutely agree that we will never know, so there is no need to get so emotionally invested the way many people seem to! Either you care about both sides with much interest, or you don't care one way or the other. I think we'd live longer if we all worried about what's really worth worrying about! 🙂

To sum up my thoughts, the sculpt is SOLID for a Rex, but I'm just not a fan of the color scheme at all. That's why I might be commissioning one to be repainted into the Prehistoric Planet Rex or maybe the Life on our Planet one. We'll see

Why don't you go mind your own business instead of sharing an opinion on an accurately sculpted figure for collectors? If you don't like the model, then don't buy it. I think that the teeth can be easily retooled, but I'm not sure how to fix the articulation, unless you completely get rid of it by heavy modding.
