The plating on any ship deteorate differently and don't forget it could be damaged not only in battle but also from space aggresive environment. The repairs sometimes are done on the field too.

Dude! Seeing the Venator bridge large enough to house a Tantive IV inside it...WOW!!! I can't wait to see how this goes along. I'm hoping, once it's all done and semi-modular, it will be easy enough for you to potentially film it somewhere large enough that you can back up, walk all around it, and also stage more of the micro fleet around it as well. It really is hard to tell relative size of ships even in the movies or shows, because it doesn't always include sufficient perspective with known things. A final build video like that would be amazing to see (along with its final resting place in your Lego skybox)!
@2bricks
@2bricks 13 күн бұрын
Busy day!! Took me a minute to get to everyone’s comments! Yes I think going even a bit more modular than I originally planned is a great idea! I sort of already feel myself heading that way as I keep thinking about what I could break off or have open-up-able! There’s a long road ahead so we will see!

@QtheLaserDude
@QtheLaserDude 13 күн бұрын
About 12.
@QtheLaserDude
@QtheLaserDude 13 күн бұрын
Okay, actually I became kinda curious. The average Walmart is 55 meters wide, according to Google, and if we assume the parking lot runs alongside the actual structure, to allow space on both sides for semi's to circle the building, let's safely assume the lot itself spans an additional 10 meters on each side, so 75 meter parking lots. The Venator is stated in-universe to be 1137 meters long, from end to end. I'll use both a 55 meter lot, and a 75 meter lot to give us a range of how many lots make up a Venator. So after some simple math, we find that a Venator class ship is approximately 15.16-20.67 average American Walmart parking lots long. The bridge alone would stretch about 2.5 lots long, which leads me to believe the scale the Star Wars universe puts on those things isn't quite right, cause we see plenty kf the interior bridges in multiple forms of media, and I ain't never seen one able to fit that many shopping carts.

Remember to save some old gray for the main hull. You will notice the change in hue if the old gray suddenly runs out so there is a sharp edge. If you fade from like 1/3 old gray to 1/12 old gray over the build I dont think it would be too noticeable as a change in average hue.
@2bricks
@2bricks 10 күн бұрын
Thanks! What I’m probably going to be doing is mixing up parts from flea market finds, bricks and minifigs pick a bricks, and bricklink, so there will likely be quite a bit of old gray coming in all throughout!

Seeing the Venator Bridge next to the Tantive IV makes me just imagine it as it's own ship, or possibly a way for the actual Venator bridge to be almost like a large shuttle/escape pod that would detach from the main ship in the event of a reactor or engine failure, or possibly as a rebel ship that's been modified from an old venator

We shall all be watching your career with great interest! I hope building this goes well for you, looking forward to it's completion! It could help to look at a cross sections book, seeing what details there are on the outside and knowing what they are in universe. That may inform how to better implement different pieces and parts into the build. Its not going to be 100% accurate, obviously, but working with that scale gives you a little more room to really flesh out those details. You are building a ship, so knowing how the ship would be built is not without value. Last little tidbit, I'm sure no one cares about it besides me, but that dish detail at the top of the bridge is apparently a "hyperwave comm/scanner". My best guess as to how it works... idk, it sounds cool though, its definitely a radar/radio dish of some kind.

@herrnase4340
@herrnase4340 8 күн бұрын
Hot take: At this scale the difference between old/new gray is great. Shows that its a huge ship that got build, cleaned, repaired in sections so its even realistic in a sense. So from a miniature builder to a slightly different miniature builder: Real weathering 0 best weathering :D Another hot take: Colourful intestines only feel bad when its from LEGO itself. We want to modify and build with our stuff and it only gets more expensive for us if LEGO cheaps out on "gray" if I buy a "gray" set. I only buy gray Star Wars sets, then why TF do I own a bucket of rainbow puke ?
@2bricks
@2bricks 8 күн бұрын
Damn, letting the hot takes fly!! Haha I do agree with pretty much everything you said though! But I’ve come to appreciate the colorful interiors in Lego sets under one condition though - the pieces truly have to be hidden. Can’t be seeing like green and purple peeking through on a grey set. But the reason I don’t mind it if it’s don’t right is that my collection is about more useful than it otherwise might have been due to this practice! I get shocked sometimes that I have piece x or y in orange or pink or whatever, and it’s for that reason!
