The anime did a fantastic job, I've read the manga and this episode had me crying way more. It for sure hit me harder too. I'm pretty sure her death is more subtle in the show because of Japanese censorship rules, but they adapted it beautifully. Evil Eye is going to HURT, but Zuma's backstory when we eventually get there is going to KILL me.

About Acro Silky's daughter being alive somewhere (no spoilers, swear): So if you look at the currency used during the flashback, it's Showa-era Series D 10,000 yen bills. Those started production in 1984 and ended production in 2004. Combine that with the calendar and the only possible years the flashback could have taken place would be 1989, 1995, or 2000. A lot of the Japanese slang used during the flashback is also from the 80s. If the people who took her are Yakuza, then it's most likely taking place in 1989 before the anti-Yakuza act that was passed in 1991. So yes, technically Acro Silky's daughter may be alive somewhere today, and may be anywhere from her late 20s to late 30s. So Acro Silky was most likely wandering as a spirit for decades before Aira reminded her that she had a daughter.

I supposed that so, hope the manga author will consider to make another story regarding acro silky redemption.

IMO in this case, it isn't fair to compare the scenes 1 to 1 and decide if the anime did it worse or better. Due to the restrictions (censoring) they were under, they had severe limitations of what they could show. So the real question is: did the anime do it the absolute best it could, to do the story justice? And the answer is YES! 10/10

Wait what, it's apparent from both the anime and the manga that the daughter is also dead. Aira even prays for both of them at the end
I like the Yami Yugi shirt~ Nico did a fantastic job of holding back information, and the "Wasnt Junpei in the OP" had me laughing out loud. My dude came prepare this week, with the jab and the book👏great job

Also, There is a little fun fact (or in this week case not fun) about Acrobatic Silky real life origin. Acrobatic Sara Sara (Akusara) in some version of the story was described having a heavily scared left arm, in the manga version of Acrobatic Silky, she didnt have that details in both her human form nor yokai form. Anime made an easter egg-ish change to her, so there is the shot of her left arm getting cut and full of broken glasses in both form, which paying homage to that version of internet story.

anime is aired in japan tv so suicide/jumping from the roof of the building is not good to show in air so they need to make it less obvious Suicide is still a touchy issue/topic etc. in Japan

I knew it was coming, I knew it had the potential to be rough. Adding motion and sound can change the impact. What I didn't expect was the dramatic increase in intensity. The manga had me sad for Silky and Aira. The anime had me missing my mom.

Yeah I think suicide is a very touchy topic in Japan so it is not really shown on tv.

The choice in the subtitles to say "masticate" instead of something more easily understood like "chew you up" is so wild to me. One reason why I actually kind of prefer the dub for this show.

Going to say something controversial but hope you can bare with me till the end: In my opinion, the spirit (which I will call "the mom" from now on) lived a very hard life, selling her body, working on multiple jobs and all for her little daughter. Till that, everything is just beautiful and bittersweet because, well... it is the reality for many single parents across the world. I believe that to the mangaka in his first idea while drawing DanDaDan made sense to him that the mom just to end her suffering after "losing" her daughter was to jump off from a building. BUT!, when they decided to make this an anime, with a broader audience, I am sure him and the production staff would of thought: "Wait... what is the audience may not like to show her just jumping out of a building" I mean, in many places, people and also some religions find suicide as a cowardly act. If you think it even harder, the mom committing suicide just because some mafia took her daughter would be an unsatisfactory end. There are many countries where when their kids are taken away from their parents, no matter if it was the mafia or whatnot, a mother would of NEVER gave up on their children, you hear that in 3rd world countries' news: Mothers that had their children kidnapped by drug cartels looking for them, no matter if they might get killed in retaliation. Mothers won't care if they find their children alive or not, they will look for them even if that cost their lives.... So, I guess that the mangaka and the production staff chose the best path, to make how the mom died in a very blurry and confusing way. As a matter of fact, after watching many reactions, like just 2% of the non-manga readers who watched this figured out that the mom jumped out of a building. For the rest, the dance was a "transition" of her desperate soul and the "thud" sound was just her collapsing, just finally passing away. So they had both audiences, manga readers and non-manga readers happy. And making this an extremely shocking and heartbreaking moment in animation. So far, I've just heard applauses and praises about this episode. But if the production staff would of just presenting a beaten up woman dancing in the top of a building and then jumping off, I am EXTREMELY sure there will be people questioning why in hell she just gave up on her daughter, no matter if the daughter was alive or not, just a mother giving up won't of get all audience praising the episode but keep questioning it. The mom's death by ""probably"" bleeding to death from her deep wounds (lots of blood on the rain puddle scene) and then a transition to the afterlife in a dance and then "collapsing" with a thud sound was, in my humble opinion, a better idea. So, in conclusion, even though there is an idea that censorship was the main cause of the change of the way how the anime portaited this, I humbly believe that it was changed so many people would had a better impression of how the mom died and, ergo, not question her death motives and making it a more impactful episode. My two cents.

Yep. It's not a good idea to "glorify" suicide or display it openly on broadcast media because it causes a measurable increase in suicide rates. Instead, they leave you to draw your own conclusions but the clues are all there. If you scrub through the episode frame by frame you can see the exact moment where she takes her last step at the edge before jumping and it happens in only 3 or 4 frames, less than a quarter of a second - fast enough that you won't visibly see it, but your brain will process it. You can also see the tiles of the roof underneath the water as she dances.
I think showing someone killing them self would effect the rating or something, and it would cause too much controversy... so they downplay the how she do it
@AWSOM81715 күн бұрын
They took artistic route, it doesn’t mean they downplayed it coz they don’t run away from the fact that she did it but asked audience to draw their own conclusion because it was very personal topic. That if doesn’t handle correctly then it would invokes wrong idea that little to none others could do about that kind of personal act.

True but on the other side it's also sth about east Asian culture that doesn't want to talk about the issues and in the end not willing to solve it bcz keeping your face/honour is more important
