I have been learning Blender for a few months and have done a lot of tutorials as well as a few projects of my own. Apart from precision modeling this series is teaching me a lot of basic stuff that isn't covered in any of the other tutorials and which is showing me how to solve problems which have been really frustrating me. I also appreciate that you speak clearly and at do things at a pace I can follow without constantly having to rewind to see the keystrokes or the menu. So thanks for all the effort you must have put into it.

12:45 if you don't want to move the vertex back and forth after moving it with CAD transforms, you can just go G type 0 and enter. The vertex does not move but the split happens

I believe that you are using the addon "Add Mesh: Extra Objects" to do the Edge Offset. I don't know if I missed this addon back in video 3 in the playlist or it wasn't mentioned. Your precision series is amazing!

One thing I can definitely say is that the Blender prefers quads (a face with 4 vertices) over anything else or otherwise you would get into topographical issues (like weird shading and all that). Of course, it doesn't seem that topography matters too much in precision modeling here, but I know there are people here who wants to use Blender in other ways (like those of us who want to create interesting furniture with precision modeling techniques to put into an archviz scene; also, those of us who want to create a precision part for a car model in a scene, for example).
@Keep-Making3 жыл бұрын
Oh yes by all means topography at the end of the day is GOD in blender... Having said that tho I'm very much focusing on how to use blender precisely first. As truly understanding topography could be a whole series on it's own. I do slowly but surely bring it in further down the line tho.
@TheOz913 жыл бұрын
@@Keep-Making Definitely, and it's more applicable to complex shapes than simple ones, especially if you're going to use subdivision surfaces and even booleans. It is a bit more of an advanced stuff as it is as much art as a science

your method of reverting chamfers and bevels only really works for objects perp/parallel to view. Would it be easier to just delete the vertices, then use tiny cad to get the intersection? That would work, regardless of the angles. You could use cad transforms as well, in a similar way to what you've done with the scaling method, but just deleting them and using tiny cad seems to be a faster method which also works with more examples. Loving these BTW. I've been using blender for a little bit now, but also use lots of CAD software, so it's nice to see how different people use blender with different backgrounds.
@Keep-Making3 жыл бұрын
Hey Andy, there are plenty of ways to undo bevels. The method I use can work in any orientation It just takes time and the use of CAD transforms not default blender movement.

I know I can extrude a vertex and type in the length but is it possible to extrude a vertex at a given angle like 11.23 degrees and have it constrained to that angle?

Hi... I'm really enjoying your videos. They're unbelievably helpful. I noticed I don't see the snap options at the top of my Blender window when I have CAD Transform activated. They come back when it's deactivated. Is this happening to anyone else? I'm using a M1 Mac with macOS Monterey, CAD Transform 0.0.9, and Blender 2.93.2 Thanks for any help!

Anyone who wonders how to get the "Single Vert" in the "Add -> Mesh" Menu: You first have to activate the "Add Mesh: Extra Objects" add-on in the preferences.

hey Ty Posey, Great to hear you are enjoying the course Those things where you see key stocks and clicks are done live by a program called KeyPress OSD. As for the other slide out things i've made myself.

Amazing videos! I have one question: When using Cad - Transforms, I cannot snap to vertexes unless they are part of a Face. For example, it happens in a situation like 11:36, when there is a vertex in the end of the edge after extruding: I go to Cad Transfroms ("Alt+C"), I press "G", "space" and "V", and I cannot snap to that vertex (I cannot even select it to move it), but I can select and snap to all the other vertexes which are indeed part of Faces. The same happens in other similar situations, not only in this particular one. Does any one could help me with this problem? Thank you so much, and congratulations again for the video series!
@Keep-Making3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, this sounds like you might not be is vertex selection mode. Make sure on the top left of edit more you have vertex selection on to be able to move a vertex.

I also have an issue at @11:36, CAD Transform shows the cursor snapping to the edge center, but the vertex does not move to the snapping point. Instead, it kind of ends up underneath the object in -Z space in a sort of random-seeming spot. -If I do all of this in top-view it all works fine, it's like 3D view is messing things up.- I've been banging my head against the wall. I select a vertex, extrude in 3D, press G to move, V to select vertex, space, shift+e, the cursor shows the snapping circle in the right spot but that's not where the vertex ends up. If anyone can help that would be much appreciated! Follow up: I've debugged this some more and it seems like the issue is that in CAD Transform I'm unable to use "vertex snapping" to initially snap the "from" point to the selected vertex. This seems to be occurring for vertices that are not part of a contiguous loop, but are "free-floating" like the extruded vertex in 3D space. Also this was -not- working in top view, the vertex snapped very close to the edge but I realized this was still slightly off and not joining the edge. The only workaround I've found to sort of "follow the tutorial" is to: -select starting vertex in center circle -*Don't extrude* Shift S, cursor to selected, Shift a add single vert -Alt-C + G + spacebar + v : you should now be able to select your new vertex, snapped -Spacebar + shift E: you are now in edge center snapping mode and can snap to the corner You can select both vertices and use f to join with an edge, but to demonstrate what's happening in the video with splitting you can also just press W to normal select the vertex, do the G + Y 0.1 example, switch to edge select mode and observe that the edge is now split in two at the vertex Hope this helps someone but if I'm just messing up someone please let me know

Hi, at 15.30 tinyCad is creating in my Blender only one vertex, I spent an hour trying everything I can think of, but second vertex does not appear....

Hey Paolo any chance this has worked itself out?
@wizzer3453 жыл бұрын
Nice job, all very clear. One thing isn't working for me is ALT f, the quick method you describe. With the square and circle selected in edit mode, it fills both the square and circle within?
@wizzer3453 жыл бұрын
ah got it! the circle and square need to be joined for alf f to work it seems. Also f between vertices needs the objects to be joined?
@Keep-Making3 жыл бұрын
Anything to be joined need to be in the same object. In other works mesh in two different object can not be joined.

I have a question, is the width setting for the bevels similar to the radius setting in other programs like AutoCad. For example if i wanted a square with 2mm bevels could i do that by entering 2 in the width parameter?
@Keep-Making3 жыл бұрын
Over all yes. From my understanding. When it basically does is duplicate and "slide" the vertex along the edges by 2mm.
@noapoleon_3 жыл бұрын
I don't see offset edge. only "offset edge slide: which i believe isn't from the addon. I verified and yes my "tiny-CAD mesh tool" addon is activated *EDIT:* Nevermind... I searched "mesh tools" but for some reason blender decides to show me or not this specific addon at random. I didnt have it enabled
@Keep-Making3 жыл бұрын
How very strange.... Be sure to save your preferences. Oh and also, sometimes loading and old file that does not that the addon enabled might disable a native addon. But i'm happy you were able to fine the problem. 😀
