Yeah, that's why with the first start i went right to the OBDII tool to diagnose it because it did not sound right at all. I'm glad i remembered the coil swap, that certainly made it easier to fix.

The hardest part for me is just finding time to get out to the shop. The projects themselves can move pretty quickly. The Pandemic has made that easier in some ways and harder in others. Thankfully i have a pretty good stock of spare parts so i don't have to run out for much.

Wow Mark, cars coming along really good, sounds awesome too! And your looking a lot more confident with making the videos too! Wish i was up to that stage with my swap ,im currently playing the waiting game with power steering parts, minor leak the rack turned into needing a new power steering reservoir. Plus ive noticed its surprisingly hard to find a wiring diagram for the Japanese 1990 n/a mr2 (3gse version), Excellent work Mark,
@FrankensteinMotorworks4 жыл бұрын
Jay, it really is getting easier and easier to make these videos and i feel that it shows in the final product. Is the wiring really that different on a japanese car? I'd expect the wiring for the engine to be identical to the european 3sge of the same year. As for needing a reservoir, depending on how adventurous you are it might be a good opportunity to shave some weight from the front end and swap in a lighter EHPS pump from a Mercedes?
@jaykatana94184 жыл бұрын
@@FrankensteinMotorworks Hi Mark, that's just the issue im not 100% sure because i cant find any diagrams to reference whats in the car, ive tried the mr2 Australian forums and had no reply's about it and i rather not try to take a chance and trace the wiring and make a mistake because, im not 100% sure if the Japanese version of the car had any extra parts or a different wiring setup compared to the Australian version or the euro spec version, an Example of this is i know the a/c different because of the 2 stage system it has but even with that, im not sure if its ecu controlled or its the unit its self that controls it, hence the need for any information on all the wiring plus .Also tempting idea with the EHPS pump, ill have to have a look into it when i get the chance, Cheers for the suggestion

Just an update on the wiring info stuff (loom wise for over this side of the pond) turns out from what ive been told theres about 6-8 different looms that came in the car over the span of the life of the cars from over in australia/japan which makes life just that bit more painful, note too im not sure if the equipment is the same on the cars and the wires are just a different color

15:12 - What is a dead hole? Never heard the term before. I can only guess dropped cylinder or blocked exhaust port or similar? Thanks! :)
@FrankensteinMotorworks3 жыл бұрын
a dead hole is just a cylinder that isn't contributing without giving a reason. it could be no fuel, no spark or no compression.

@FrankensteinMotorworks4 жыл бұрын
This is something i can do but the general feel i get when people are asking for an alternative transmission option is because they think the E153 is too expensive but it would have to get significantly more expensive before anything else is cheaper once you account for axle shafts, mounting brackets and shift linkage bits required.

If we’re upping the pressure to 4 bar, do we need to do anything with that thing that appears to be a fuel pressure regulator that we clip the fuel line to around 5:45? What is that thing?
@FrankensteinMotorworks2 ай бұрын
That's just a pressure damper, no need to adjust that but also on the new low profile intake that isn't there anyways.

Bean, this thread on MR2OC covers the hoses you need for the swap: www.mr2oc.com/threads/2gr-fe-a-c-solution.633066/ I intended to cover that on this video series but the A/C lines on this car are not usable.

Great video as usual, but maybe I missed it: no heater core line routing? Does it go into the coolant tree?
@FrankensteinMotorworks4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, i noticed after posting this that it accidentally ended up on the cutting room floor. You can see them installed at 3:20 in the video, the part numbers and links are in the description along with the other hose part numbers and links. They just plug in top to top and bottom to bottom to maintain stock flow direction. Though it does not matter that much since this system won't really self-bleed anyways.

Can a jdm 2grfe with the plastic ecu housing outside be used for this same swap? The jdm engines usually have less mileage than US engines. US engines usually don't come with all the accessories also, unless you go directly to a junkyard. But, some of the junkyard stuff have too many miles.
@FrankensteinMotorworks4 жыл бұрын
It's a bit of a shameless plug but i think you're way better off getting a tuned ECU from me with the immobilizer removed. But that said, there's nothing stoping you from using any of the ECUs. Cruise control is the only thing that seems to be hit and miss depending on the ECU you're using. As far as i know there are no JDM differences on this engine.

2010 Camry starter? Does that bolt straight up to the e153?
@FrankensteinMotorworks4 жыл бұрын
This is the 2010 camry manual transmission starter. It's what i use in the MR2 Spyder swaps which is why i had a spare laying around. It uses a different electrical connector but it's the same as what comes on the rav4 harness so you'll already have one on hand when doing this swap. You also have to use a shallow head screw on one of the shift brackets to avoid interference. The design is a planetary design and it saves 1lb or so. I don't think it's a better starter, it's just what i had available.
