Congrats guys on keeping the shop clean, organized, and efficient. Being organized is the key to driving them instead of repairing and or replacing the expensive parts you didn't install properly. Half the DIY builds that aren't finished are because builders are unorganized and have no plan, budget, etc. A good idea for high-performance street and track vehicles is to do what NASA does, after the final assembly or as they call it "Closeout", take a photo of the position of the finished part, assembly, fluid level, etc. I recommend using a paint marker on critical fasteners, oil, fuel, coolant lines, filters, Fill and drain bolts, etc. to verify they were torqued, secured, and filled with fluids.. Tearing up your new Strange engineering 9 inch Ford differential / Gearvender overdrive isn't a good day.

That dudes a joke, he has very poor judgment on an extremely important part of tuning. Knock detection is the most important thing to monitor when tuning and he has Mike looking to see if he hopefully notices puffs of smoke or not... Especially on pump gas, loves pump gas nonetheless...
@erik_cruz3 жыл бұрын
@@Brother2Jis_27s4 Hi, Brother 2J, I'm "That dude". And you're absolutely right. Knock detection is the most important thing to monitor. I usually tune with a stand alone per cylinder knock detection system. However after years of use, it finally died. I informed Adam about it, but he wished to continue with the tune. Here is a link of how I use that system when I tuned Tavarish's twin turbo Lambo. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJbRoJymppaIbKc Since I didn't have it in this case, I asked Mike visually check the back of the car. Now you may be wondering why I didn't monitor knock through the ECU. Thats a good question. The Link, just like any other stand alone is a universal ECU, does not have knock control is not active or calibrated right out the box. Nothing is set. No center frequency, no activation thresholds, no gains are set, nothing. Now I know the center knock frequency for an 86mm bore is 6.7 KHz and the second harmonic is 13.4 KHz. But I don't know what harmonic to use without using my stand alone knock detection equipment. I would have to intentionally knock the engine. And for obvious reasons I didn't want to do that. Furthermore, the original knock sensors on Nissans from that era were ignored by the OEM ECUs past 4k rpm because the signal to noise ratio of those old style sensors were that bad. So because the OEM sensor is so bad at it's job and given what I had to work with, I would trust Mike's visual observation over the knock sensors that Nissan them selves ignore past 4k rpm any day. Again, you are right. Knock is the most important thing to monitor when tuning an engine. I was just working with what I had. Thank you for the opportunity to explain in more detail :)
@Brother2Jis_27s43 жыл бұрын
@@erik_cruz I think like most things on KZbin and other social media thevideo didn't give the best context. Realistically the timing numbers weren't shared so I don't know how conservative it was or safe it may have been. I believe, also not knowing the context of what conversation that took place, that I would have postponed the dyno session or any real tuning until a better detection system was in place. But that is also not knowing if you had 32 degrees in it or 3 degrees... I think if you get the opportunity in the future you should get a chance to explain the context of what happened. I do apologize for being harsh, I'm not sure if anyone else realized that what was going on could have been seen as reckless given the context of what was portrayed on video...
