Was just through there back in May ('01) going NB. We started taking that route exclusively to get to Mammoth Lakes after the Sylmar quake in 1971 because there was so much damage to the interchange with I-5 and SR-14 after the earthquake. I learned to enjoy that route even though it added about 40 miles to the trip. Of course, back then there was hardly anyone living out there and so it was a quick rise to the desert; and Adelanto hadn't been developed yet like it is now. My trip last year took forever because of the traffic on I-15 and the plethora of signalized intersections through Adelanto on US-395. Still love the transition from metropolis to mountain to desert in the span of 30 minutes.

I lived in Redlands from June 1981-April 1986. I do remember travelling with my family from Redlands to Lancaster/Palmdale area once or twice via I10, I 215, I15 through the south part of the Cajon Pass , and SR 138 (Palmdale Highway) through Little Rock and Phelan. Coming south on I 15 at the I 215 interchange is different as I 215 went to the left and I 15 to the right as I remember it, but non the less a great video through the Cajon Pass.

4:55 When this interchange got redone, Route 66 was reopened underneath it. It dead-ended at the last interchange to the north and got abandoned for over 45 years. Same thing happened going north out of S.B. Then an extension got built under the new 215 bridge and Route 66 travelers no longer had to get on the interstate for a few miles.

Driven the Cajon Pass so many times for work and travel. Been through in clear weather to snow storms. I'm always impressed when I can see the both lanes cut out of the mountain. Some incredible engineering for sure.

I drove down that grade one weekend returning from Vegas when it was covered in a light snow, slush and raining. A driving adventure for sure. Canned Heat - On the road again. Great song I forgot about.

Great video. Love this route. There is so much in the way of travelers and transport that use this pass. So important to California and the west!

I've driven this route NB last summer from San Diego to Las Vegas and Cajon Pass was one of my favorite parts. Besides that, I actually hated the drive on I-15 through the desert because of the drivers and how aggressive they were. Lots of left lane lurkers as well. I-15 DESPERATELY needs 3-4 lanes on each side from Barstow to the NV state lane.
@InterstateKyle3 жыл бұрын
I experienced that myself driving back from Las Vegas in October of last year and let me tell you I wholeheartedly agree with you that it should be a minimum of three lanes with maybe a fourth lane added to climb the mountain passes.

Good video to start the season. I've been through the pass once: in 1997. Hesperia and the other desert communities were a lot smaller than they are now! There was a drive-thru at the Hwy. 138 interchange that was a Rt. 66 landmark-they served among other things, ostrich burgers. It burned in a wildfire a few years back, sad to say. Keep it up!

& so it begins- the New Year & a new season from Interstate Kyle! The pass week weather wise is... interesting. Here in SoCal we got a lot rain. The Sierra Nevada received record breaking mounts of snow which led to CalTrans actually closing down I-80. Northern Nevada got snow as well. & sadly the folks in Boulder County, Co wish they got rain or snow with the wildfires raging there. Hopefully 2022 will be a better year. But in the meanwhile I can't wait to see the upcoming season!

Cajon Pass is literally the best scenic route in San Bernardino County, CA as we see how I-15 replaces US 66/US 91/US 395 in there.

Interstate 15 crosses cajon pass South of Oak Hill road and the views of the San Gabriel mountains are awesome when there’s no clouds in the sky. Cajon pass is also known for long freight trains traveling between the San Gabriel mountains but i don’t like California state route 247 since it ends in Lucerne valley.I think the terrain is too rugged near Delamar mountain for California state route 247 to cross from Lucerne valley to banning.
