Nice video as usual. The I-30 east of the I-35W all the way to Dallas is the old Dallas-Fort Worth Turnpike. And if there's anyone in the Dallas area deserving to have a freeway named for him, it's the Cowboys' greatest coach ever, Tom Landry. Hoping to see more of the D/FW area!

omg, Kyle. Thank you so much. I remember taking this road in the 70s when I was a little shaver to visit my mom's family in Oklahoma. We didn't drive a lot of freeways where I was from, and it was extremely stressful for my dad. Way, way before the era of Google maps. My siblings and I knew to stay very quiet while my dad stressfully navigated the concrete jungle, lest we get yelled at, or worse. Another fun fact, I-30 between Dallas and Fort worth was a tollway for many years. The Dallas-Fort Worth Turnpike.

At 0:24, the I-20 East sign used to have "Dallas" as the only control city until about 15 years ago when they decided to add "Shreveport".

I didn’t know that, interesting fact there. Thanks for sharing!

I actually don't really agree with the inclusion of "Dallas" as a control city for I-20 East at that point, as most of Dallas and its suburbs are along and north of I-30. I feel that "Dallas" would be better used as a control city on I-30 in addition to "Downtown Fort Worth," with perhaps the addition of something like "Northern (DFW) Suburbs" as a generalized control "city" for I-820 northbound from I-30 eastbound. On the other hand, there are some pretty significant portions of Dallas (including Oak Cliff) and its suburbs south of downtown Dallas and I-30, including the "Best Southwest" suburbs of Cedar Hill, Duncanville, DeSoto, and Lancaster, and I-20 does cross part of Dallas proper as well (and also enters the northern portions of Duncanville and Lancaster). That said, I-20 is a higher-capacity route through the southern Metroplex, better suited for long-distance traffic, as it usually maintains at least 8 lanes (6 lanes within the interchanges with I-820 East, SH-360, and Spur 408) from the SH-183/Chisholm Trail interchange all the way to the I-635 interchange southeast of Dallas. I-30, by comparison, only has 6 general-purpose lanes between east Fort Worth and the Tarrant/Dallas county line (at the time of writing).

@@sbclaridge "Dallas" is fine because it's a major city that TxDot isn't going to ignore. Using suburbs for an interstate highway is stupid as most of the people traveling in from another part of the state or out of state aren't going to be familiar with suburbs of a major city. "Dallas" will be used on I-20 until you reach US 67 which then takes you to downtown Dallas. They do the same thing for "Ft. Worth" when you go westbound on I-20 when I-20 splits off Spur 557/US 80. TxDot will not ignore Ft. Worth or Dallas nor should they.

@@Mark-xl1ze I was about to mention the US-67 route to downtown Dallas, but it makes sense regardless. Same thing for signing "Fort Worth" on I-20 coming in to DFW at Terrell. Signage at the Jane Byrne (Circle) Interchange for westbound I-290 in Chicago used to use "West Suburbs" as the control city, but it seems that with the reconstruction of that interchange the control city was changed to Aurora. I'll admit that I got that idea of using "suburbs" as a control city from Chicago. Speaking of Chicago, it's possible that DFW will surpass Chicagoland as the largest metro area in the Central United States (or for that matter, the entire US away from the East Coast and West Coast states) within the next few decades.

@@sbclaridge DFW will pass Chicago in metro area population. Chicago's population in general is shrinking as I believe Houston will pass them within the next 10 years.

Thanks for including a link to the version with copyrighted music. While the copyright-free music featured here ain't bad, these 2 songs from Kelly Clarkson & George Strait really give you the felling of driving about in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro.

It's quite exciting to see that you covered up the Tom Landry section of I-30 and your next video will cover up E RL Thornton section of I-30. Let's hope you can drive a little to Texarkana. We are really excited to see you driving in Arkansas.

Though I live in Houston, it's cool to see the Metroplex's expressway systems. And BTW, very cool first song selected. This is only the second place I've ever heard my favorite House/EDM song from Hallman!

3:22 That sign on the right says exit to University Dr and it brings drivers not only the Fort Worth Zoo but also Texas Christian University or TCU for short. TCU also have a college football team since 1896 and their current stadium is the Amon G. Carter Stadium and that stadium is also home of the Armed Forces Bowl.
@sbclaridge2 жыл бұрын
I'm a TCU alum 😉 It's a pretty campus, especially for a campus that largely lacks older buildings. All of the "older" buildings (1950s and earlier) are concentrated around University Drive, although the interiors mostly have a contemporary feel. It used to be nicknamed "Texas Construction University" for all the construction taking place on campus, but it seems that the "construction" era is over (for now anyways).

For all the animosity between Texas and California ATM, their county line signs are almost identical. Both say... County name COUNTY LINE Whereas, for instance, in Washington and Oregon they say... Entering X County

American roads and Highways are concrete pavement, concrete roads are so ugly and worst... Asphalt roads are better than concrete roads.....American roads and Highways are so worst when compared to Asian countries like Japan, Turkey, Qatar, Uae, Philippines, Croatia and Germany etc.
