@Thomas Campbell I held the forged model in my hands this weekend. The flatter lie and reduced offset really caught my eye. I can not play with a lot of offset. I checked the specs on the offset, which are close. Does pro model have a similar reduced offset to the eye. I am definitely buying either the forged or the pro.

You guys do the best testing/reviews I've ever seen, bar none!! Far better to see testing done outside off turf than into a screen 15 feet away. Thomas is a great ball striker (figured he was a pro) and the explanations and clarifications regarding loft differentials is superb. I realize that Thomas's carry distances are extreme for we amateurs but that is fine because the deltas between models is what is key. Smash factors and spin rates are also important to understand between the models. And, finally someone hits something other than a 7 or 6 iron. I have demoed the JPX919 models and struck them well but always wonder how the longer irons compare. Great job guys!

I was very interested in purchasing a new set of irons and I’ve always enjoyed Mizuno. This test really helped decide which to buy. I’m a Senior but still single digit but I wanted a game improvement iron but can’t stand large offset clubs. I bought the HM Pro’s and love them. Best Mizuno test on the Net. Thanks guys...

@marklumley29143 жыл бұрын
@Thomas, this is bit far down the line, but i've ordered the JPX 4 and 5 iron in the forged and 6-PW in the Tours. It's quite difficult because when you get fit, Mizuno only have a 7 iron and you can't hit the 4 iron. My swing speed with a 7 iron is about 97mph and I play off a scratch. I was fit with the KBS C- Taper 130x. I don't really every feel the need to work a 4 or 5 iron much, so would you agree with the make up of this set or should it be the Tours all the way through?

I think they sprinkle a little extra magic Mizuno fairy dust on the Hot Metal Pros at the factory. I got unbelievable numbers ay my fitting with those at my fitting. Great feel, flight, distance, dispersion....everything. And insanely consistent.

Waoo. What a comprehensive review. Beautiful consistent shot with all four. I had fomo from missing out on a slightly discounted jpx forged and got lucky to eventually snapped a set of jpx hot metal pro. To me it looks like the king in consistency and looks and smash factor is the hot metal pro. Just so sexy looking and better smash factor with superior distance and less duspersion. Butter feel or not. Cast iron win in this review

Nice Range for an outdoor sesh! I'm a 13 hdcp player who grew up playing blade irons for some reason. It's what I'm used to playing and love my first fitting mp-33 set with TT S300 shafts. I tried to put some JPX 825s KBS shafts into the bag a few years ago and while I'm still playing the 5i and 6i, I've put the mp-33 7-pw back in the bag because I like their weight how they get through the turf so much better than the JPX 825s. I've gone to hybrids for my 3 and 4, but can't wait to try the JPX 921 as they look like a better match to waht I'm looking for in an iron.

Pity the forged and the hot metal pro don't come in left hand. So makes the choice and gap between HM and tour huge. That being said I have been thinking about changing my irons from my apex forged which still a little bulky and too much offset. Aside from the pxg gen 3 p/t which I loved with a great shaft but price...wow..I have been testing various 7 iron heads and shafts on the course including the latest TM ramge, srixon, cobra forged Tec and more. Am currently putting the sel through its paces and so far finds its performance, stability/reliability, feel much better. Indeed the 7 iron at 34 degrees gives me the same distance as my 7 iron at 30.5 degrees. Testing the project X lz 70g r 4.5 shaft. Nice looks too and more to my liking as I used to use the TM p760 and the srixons. Any thoughts- have been thinking about maybe considering strengthening the lofts by 1 degree and going from 6-gw with the shaft mentioned or something similar. Currently use the kbs tgi 90 though for the pxg was looking at kbs max 65

Awesome review! I am playing mp58’s. I play once a week between 13 and 14 hdcp. I lose shots from my driver and the odd mishit iron. Ignoring my terrible putting I am thinking new irons this year. I hit my PW 120 yds and from 8 iron up and I am accurate. I want to score better. What do you thinking of blending Hot Metal Pro in the 4-6 range and Forged 7 thru PW? I just love you videos! Keep up the great work!
@2ndswing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Dean! The blend of Hot Metal Pro and Forged is an awesome idea. Notice how Thomas said multiple times that the appearance at address is almost identical. You will have to work with a fitter, though, to make sure the lofts/gapping are good. Standard lofts are different with the Hot Metal Pros and the Forged models.

I have the JPX 900 Hot Metal irons and they are amazing for distance and forgiveness for me on a 16 handicap. If you get a good lie you can bomb the 6 iron 200 yards carry with ease and very high ball flight as well.
@2ndswing4 жыл бұрын
The JPX 900s are rockets for sure! The JPX 921s are built similarly as well. Designed for that explosive ball speed.

Great review! One of the best I’ve seen for the 921 series. Any concern about the large distance gap between forged PW (151) - 7 (189)? Seems to be a lot for scoring clubs. Any issue with making forged set 1-2 degrees weak? Adds more bounce, right?
@2ndswing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! To your point about the distance gap, we like to say that proper gapping would be about 10-15 yards of carry distance between each club. With 38 yards in between the PW and 7-iron, that would allow a 9-iron to carry roughly 164 yards and an 8-iron to carry roughly 177 yards if we were to space them out evenly. But yes, if you add loft to the Forged you'll get a little bit more bounce.

After gaming the 921 Hot Metal Pro for the summer, I like them, but I have to admit that I can't get past looking down at six iron head on a seven iron shaft. Golf is already too much of a mind game to have weird little thoughts like this going through my head.

If you like the look of the hot metal, then game those as they will be the most forgiving. The hot metal pros are more niche, they're more for people who want the forged looks but need the stronger lofts and higher ball speed to get extra distance
@jackvliet4 жыл бұрын
I would try out the forged if I were you
@2ndswing4 жыл бұрын
Both of those models would be good for you! The difference between the Hot Metal and Hot Metal Pro is more about looks. If you prefer something smaller and more traditional in appearance, the Hot Metal Pro is for you. If you don't mind a larger clubhead, the Hot Metal is likely better. Of course, the Forged has a similar appearance to the Hot Metal Pro, but with the Forged feel and slightly weaker lofts.

Great review . Being a more inconsistent striker for distance control at 15 handicap I seem to bunch mid to top end so looking at going 58 deg special shots , 54 sand and full 47 or 48 pitch and 5 deg gaps to 6 iron then 4 deg to allow another spare club , would this work . I also use 5 , 3+ , and driver woods.

Instead of comparing the same iron number compare the same or near same loft. I play the 919 tour and just got the 921 hot metal pro so with the distance change I would hit an eight iron hmp to match the tour seven.

Hey Thomas, which club feels softer the Apex dcb irons or the 921 hot metals?
@ChampMannyRey4 жыл бұрын
Can someone explain why the dispersion is wider (left to right) with the Hot Metals than with the Pro or Tour irons, if the Hot Meatals are supposed to be the most forgiving of them all? Wouldn’t a low handicap player be able to hit these clubs with ease?
@drew36773 жыл бұрын
Forgiveness is best shown on miss hits low on the face or toe/heel strikes which will still carry your typical distance…not so much left and right. Also worth mentioning the more forgiving irons have stronger loft (sometimes a whole club difference) which would also lead to more dispersion. The less forgiving irons in general are more precise for someone who can hit the center of the face consistently.

Would you recommend blending the forged gw-6i with hmp 5i and 4i? I’m a mid handicapper and sometimes struggle with my longer irons and my gapping distances seem to drop off between 5 and 4 with the forged
@2ndswing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! One reason many golfers lose distance with the longer irons is because they need to launch the ball higher. If that's the case for you, that might be where the transition to a hybrid should be in your bag.

I would like to mix Hot Metal 5 and 6 with forged 7 to PW, but the gap from HM 6 to forged 7 would be 7 degree, which is a NoGo. Can the HM be weakened, or what is your suggestion for such a mixed bag approach?
@ChrisDavis3332 жыл бұрын
I feel like when I watch these kind of videos there’s always some excuses being made for the “players iron” of the bunch. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that obviously good ball strikers consistently hit players irons inconsistently. It almost seems like players play those irons out of bravado, when they’d shoot a lower score with a more forgiving club. Forged vs Tour for example. Just my observation, great video, love mizuno.

How would you compare apex pro 19 and the jpx 921 forged?
@2ndswing4 жыл бұрын
The JPX 921 Forged is more of a distance iron than the Apex Pro. Built with a little bit larger clubhead, where as the Apex Pro is a little more compact and workable.
@mikemaupin83644 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your response. Would you say 921 forged is more forgiving?
@2ndswing4 жыл бұрын
Yes...921 Forged will be a little more generous on mis-hits. Apex Pro 19 will be more workable. If you prefer Callaway, the Apex 19 would be a slightly more forgiving version of the Apex Pro.
@mikemaupin83644 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Im gamming apex pro 19 now and was "fit" to that because of sole width and turf interaction. Seamed to keep more speed through impact. However I feel I could use a bit more forgiveness, distance isn't much of a factor for me but am obviously willing to take it if spin and decent angle stay decent. Turf interaction seams to be my biggest downfall so trying to finding a thin enough sole with decent forgiveness is my main concern. Thanks again for your time.

if you had to choose between P790, 921 forged or 921 hot metal pro?
@2ndswing4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! We'll always say it's player dependent. The JPX 921 Forged and P790 both fall into the players-distance category that emphasizes distance while blending in some characteristics of a players iron. Of those two, the P790 has stronger lofts and a little louder sound that delivers a little more pop. The 921 Forged, meanwhile, has weaker lofts but boasts Mizuno's silky soft forged feel. The JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro is a game-improvement iron that has essentially the same DNA as the standard JPX 921 Hot Metal, just in a slightly smaller clubhead shape. Hope this helps!

@alysgolfstudio5674 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Tomorrow I am testing g the 7 iron (leftie) on the course against my apex irons - given the loft difference it's the 8 apex Vs the p770 and p7mc 7 iron. Very interested to see how I like them. The mizuno jpx line is another option if and when I can get hold of a leftie iron to try out. My other shortlist which I know iblive and works well for me though price is an issue is the pxg gen 3 p. Any thoughts how you would compare the taylor made to the jpx given I might not get to try the latter for a little while. Used to have the p760s which I loved the feel and looks of but needed the little extra distance that's all hence the look at the p770 and p7mc mix new line.

If someone with Thomas' swing speed actually played these club.....I mean 155 carry with your PW. What do you do at the bottom of the bag? Even with a gap wedge in the set you have a gap of lets say 70 yards to fill with max 4 clubs. Assuming 85 yards with a controlled 60 degree wedge. 🤣🤣
@2ndswing3 жыл бұрын

@TheVillest4 жыл бұрын

@VivaLaGolf424 жыл бұрын
His launch angle was lower with the higher lofted forged and tour. Ball speed was lower, offsets are different, and a lot of these new “distance” irons can give a higher launch with lower loft through weighting, tungsten or foam inserts like Taylormade has done. It’s just a video to show the characteristics across the new line of mizunos so people can decide which is right for them. Not to try and get the same result with different clubs.
@2ndswing4 жыл бұрын
Correct, this is just to display the range of technology, specs, feel, looks, and performance in the new line. The irons all come in different standard lofts for a reason!
