I had this recently! It may have been a bastardized version but it was still delicious. Fries, shredded beef, beef gravy, and fried curds. I was on a first date and it was on the menu and the girl who I was with's mom is from Canada, so she was very familiar with it. We ordered it and the worst part was, because it was a date (and a first date), I didn't want to make a pig of myself or get all farty, so I had to just take a few bites and pretend like I was cool with that when, really, all I wanted to do was eat it by the handful like I just gotten out of solitary confinement.

Clamato has always been an American beverage. It's only connection with Canada is the Caesar. There are 11 ingredients in a bloody Mary, including Consommé. Mixing vodka and tomato juice doesn't cut it. There's a Caesar bar in Collingwood that will do wonderful things to your meal, and put it on a Caesar.

I remember the great taste of timmies when everything was baked fresh from scratch, and the coffee beans were different. I used to be addicted to it. But in the last 10 years or so, I have a hard time drinking their coffee, and their doughnuts are way too sweet now, covered in all that glaze. I would love to see old timmies make a come back, but I doubt it.

It's a good bit. Americans have chili cheese fries which are arguably more unhealthy. I enjoy both but I'd take poutine first every time. Fries and gravy in general is a fantastic combo, the cheese curds are like the cherry on top.
@Tomp4ul
@Tomp4ul Жыл бұрын
The UK, especially the north, also enjoys unhealthy doses of similar foods. 'chips' (fries), cheese and gravy is popular, but it isn't called poutine and it's often cheap shredded shite rather than real curds, also chips and curry sauce - but it's not like the gravy element of a real curry; it's more like curry flavoured gravy. The last decade or so has also seen the rise of 'Dirty fries' which is basically chilli cheese fries, but much more 'anything goes' - things like pulled pork, chilli or any other mince-meat (ground beef) sauces, slopped over a tray of fries... My heart is palpitating just describing all this.

I think Starbucks has a breeding program, it's the only logical explanation.. Here where I live there's a Starbucks across the street from another Starbucks. And you go inside the first Starbucks, and there's a second tiny Starbucks inside, off to one side. "Yes we are successfully breeding them, we have had 12 litters in the past 4 years." I'd guess that they cut them off like budded growth and replant them in a new shopping center/high traffic area. Then they have the free range Starbucks which are mobile (think food truck) and those have started showing up at college football games, the county fair, anywhere there's a crowd of caffeine addicts. Pretty soon they'll be driving up to your house to deliver that pumpkin latte you so desperately desire. Next step will be to install a Starbucks in your kitchen. There will likely be an app, so you can order the latte from the couch and go pick it up during a commercial.

Tim Hortons is only partly internationally owned, however I cannot find the exact ratio. Out here on the West Coast (as another poster pointed out) Starbucks has given Timmies a real run for the money. I would say that here in Victoria, we have more Starbucks than Timmies. Timmies doughnuts are not as good as they used to be now, either. Back in the late 80's early 90's I had a friend who was a baker there and she used to actually make the base batter fresh every morning. Now the doughnuts are premade and frozen so they only need to be baked - that changed the ingredient profile and they just aren't the same. Still good for a sugar craving, but not as good as they used to be.

Dunkin' is actually staring to get on that Starbucks/McDonald's level nowadays of being all the fuck over in the US. My area has like 15. Also, we have the occurrence sometimes in the states where they'll have 2 locations kiddy corner to each other, like 2 fast foods, or sometimes same gas stations. They do it because it's a busy rush hour area with heavy traffic, and there's a higher chance of people stopping in if they can just turn right into it and then right out again, rather than have to turn left across the road twice.

In the same parking lot there is a full service stand alone Starbucks less than 70 yards away. On the diagonal corner of the intersection there is another full service Starbucks. Since one of the roads is a main commute artery (3 lanes each way plus lighted Left/U-turn lanes) my pals and I came to the conclusion that they wanted easy access to a Starbucks without jamming the U-turn lanes, hence one in each direction of travel.

*Tim Hortons;* The company was founded in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario, by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton and Jim Charade, after an initial venture in hamburger restaurants. In 1992, the owner of all *Tim Hortons* and *Wendys* Restaurants in Prince Edward Island, Daniel P. Murphy, decided to open new franchise outlets for both brands in the same building in the town of Montague. Murphy's success with combining *Tim Hortons* coffee and doughnuts with *Wendy's* fast food led to the August 8, 1995, acquisition of and merger with TDL Group by *Wendy's* International, Inc., an American company In 2014 it was announced that *Tim Hortons* and *Burger King* would be smashed together to form Restaurant Brands, with Brazil-based private equity firm 3G Capital as the new company’s largest shareholder holding 51 per cent of the shares. Today institutional investors own close to three-quarters of RBI’s shares, including U.S. money managers like T. Rowe Price and Pershing Square Capital Management, but also Canadian firms like Royal Bank and Bank of Montreal. *A couple other all Canadians;* *A&W* is Canada's first hamburger *quick service* restaurant, and remains one of its best known. The company began operations in Winnipeg, opening its first freestanding drive-in restaurant in 1956 In 1972, *A&W* Food Services was acquired by Unilever Canada Limited. Since that time, *A&W* has always been owned and operated in Canada independently from *A&W* operations in the United States. and *Harveys/Swiss Chalet-* The Observatory Lane and Yonge Street intersection in Richmond Hill, and the surrounding neighbourhood, has changed dramatically in the years since Canada's first Harvey's location opened there in the summer of 1959 *Swiss Chalet* is a chain of casual dining restaurants founded in 1954 in Toronto, Ontario. ... *Swiss Chalet* is among the holdings of Recipe Unlimited, which also owns the fast food chain *Harvey's. Swiss Chalet* and *Harvey's* franchises share many locations. *A couple bonus joints* *New York Fries* is a Canadian quick service restaurant, founded in Brantford Ontario in 1984, that mainly serves french fries, hot dogs and poutine. There are 120 locations in Canada, as well as locations in Bahrain, China, Egypt, Macao, Oman, Panama, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey & United Arab Emirates. The parent company also owns fellow Canadian food outlet, *Cultures,* (I can't find any info on Cultures founding other than it was by the same guy that started *NYF* ) The first *Booster Juice* location opened in November 1999 in the Sherwood Park area, a community located east of Edmonton Alberta. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Canadian_restaurant_chains
