The ignition switch is being trashed by the heavy ring of keys bouncing up and down as the Isetta goes down the road. Hopefully you can convince the owner to separate the Isetta key once the new ignition switch is installed.

Hey 2stroketurbo. I grew up with the old British cars of the 1950's and 1960's which still ran DC generators (some right upto early 1970's). One car I had terrible flat battery problems with. I fitted an Ammeter, and could see "some" charging was taking place, after each jumpstart/pushstart, I replaced the starter motor, the generator, the Earthing lead, and cleaned terminals etc. Still problems. Turns out the VOLTAGE REGULATOR was WAY out of whack and simply needed adjusting. The older type had 2 bobbins (one was a cut-out, and the other had voltage and current sensing coils, wound on the same shared bobbin) and some other types had 3 bobbins. Each bobbin had a set of points and wear at those points happens over time. Those type of DC Generator regulators had a simple adjustment, available either by a screwdriver blade or turning a small toothed wheel. There was a special "Lucas" brand tool I bought for turning the toothed wheel, but I've seen folks just use long nose pliers do it just as easily. With a DC generator, your maximum charging current is much lower than with modern alternators, so it is acceptable to have voltages even a little above the 14.4 volts that a modern alternator system might have. Did I read somewhere that a Dynastart starter/generator has a max current output of about 13 Amps ? Remember DC generators need to be driving faster for maximum output. After also fitting a Voltmeter to my car, I was able to ascertain that I needed to be going 44mph/70kmh in top gear, for maximum generator output, Volts and Amps. (Alternators are geared higher and can achieve maximum charge at about half that road speed). Note if I had fitted a Voltmeter to my car at the beginning, I would have immediately seen the problem, as my DC generator was being kept down to less than 12 Volts, by the mal-adjusted regulator.

Try Repolarizing your voltage regulator.

On my '57 I used the VW VReg & the Toro/Snapper solenoid. Worked great.

Your timing is perfect, as my Isetta has decided to stop charging. Years ago, I went to the VW type voltage regulator setup, but this still applies.

Thanks for the lesson on the Dynastar system. The one you took off maybe ok except for some rewiring of the defective wires. It might be worth trying. Although you do want the gentleman that repairs them to stay in business so it might be better that he goes thru it.

There is a company I Europe that makes a new version of them called the Picolino. It's an all electric version. Pretty cool.

That voltage regulator looks like it's old and it might be a solenoid type, those tend to get stuck and are usually not made to be repaired (riveted together) but they are mechanical and can often be repaired. The solenoid type is an electromagnet that activates a contact when the voltage gets high enough and those tend to get stuck due to old age.

Treat them like to individual Parts generator starter one set of field goals for the starter and the other ones for the generator and makes a lot easier to understand

A Volkswagen regulator it doesn't come with the starter relay there's nothing wrong with the original just learn how to set it
