I watch almost all of your videos, and you’ve taught me quite a bit about small engine internals. I’ve seen some comments about cleaning these things off before you tear into them. I would absolutely give these rides a power wash on my way home. The main reason I comment it that you put so much time and effort into rebuilding these engines and making sure everything inside “looks really good”, but you put no effort into the outside. If I were buying a used bike/atv and the seller told me the engine was rebuilt I’d expect it to look fresh on the outside too. I’d bead blast or “vapor hone” the outsides, or at least a coat of matte black paint could really up the resale

My guess would be why he never power washes his vehicles at his home, is where would all the oil and dirt go? He would be killing the grass and messing with environment. I know oil comes from the ground. But there is ground water to think about. Who knows? Yes he could take it to a Mr. Bubbles power washing station. I don't know - for me it would be hard to work around the dirt. He is a pro though. Who am I to be critical, I enjoy the content. Would make a donation for him to get a parts washer. @steveperyer48505 ай бұрын
When you ask why there are no access points on the machine, is because Polaris wants you to have it serviced at the Dealer. I worked at the factory that built these engines on the line, and they are built well, but from an engine perspective they are not good quality for long life like a Honda, or Yamaha. Even though they are built in the US, many of the parts to build the engines come from many other countries, to save money. Many times I have seen no work on the lines, because they were waiting for parts from Japan, or Europe. That bike was beat to death from the first minute the owners had it. The easiest way to bend a valve in any engine is to over-rev a four stroke engine, no matter if it is a small one cylinder, like this one, or a V-8 race engine. The tolerances are not forgiving, and I cringe every time anyone starts a rebuilt engine and rev it high right away. Seen many in my 69 years, explode. You have a good engine and machine for your channel, but the cost to put it back to a serviceable machine is much more than it is worth, so parting it would be my recommendation 😊
@AnthonyRBlacker5 ай бұрын
Truth. Especially the part when a fresh rebuild gets revved to the moon on the initial startup, YIKES! I cringe same as you, there's a break-in period for a reason folks.. those parts need the lubrication to do its thing and there will be a little metal in your first break-in oil change. Things have been that way since the beginning of engines and NOTHING has changed in 140 years or so.. Please take care of a new engine, seriously, if you do and it was built properly, it'll last a long long time with some routine maintenance. Beating your motor and not providing it with service will surely end up just like this one.. 900 something original miles and shot. Completely shot.

I don't think 'cost' comes into his decision making for the most part, this is a free hobby for him that we all get to enjoy. That said, given that money is not the primary motive for these vids, I'd be super keen to see if he could buy a cheapish boring machine and bore out the scratches on the cylinder wall, and maybe even deal with the warping. It would most likely be a fail, but we could all get to see how and if this would even be possible. If he was successful, could he then find a new piston and rings to suit, and get it all back together again and working? Thanks Joe for your fantastic content!

The "ACE" are very popular in Britain - they have clubs, races etc. Saw some photos of custom tricked out bodies (additional tubing and fiberglass panels) --- Not too far into video - even just hosing it down would have helped. Have a 325 (2015). Runs nice, enjoyable to drive, down side only one person can use it and to get body parts and some mechanicals is very hard. Would have been nice to get front rear total coverage brush bars. Came with plow that works great (modified a ranger soft cab to blunt weather). Took in to Polaris Dealer for inspection and complete fluids change when got it. Got it back quick, but had developed an oil leak didn't find until ran up throttle while watch. -- oil filter o ring was cut and sprayed across lower engine when engine rpm ran up. New o ring and bolts for cover solved problem. ps - oil always seems to be in "full zone" on dip stick, oil tends to hold up in cavity dip stick screws in to, pop the bubble of oil then check oil level.

Everything looks like it was over heated and blew up check the coolant pump and oil pump. The smell is usually the oil pump failure from lack of service and maintenance with the extensive where on valve buckets from low oil pressure and garbage oil.and filter plugged. Good luck I will be thinking of you Dale

I've never had one, but it kinda reminds me of a Honda Odyssey. Which I've owed a few and they're a blast to ride.

It does not have to be out of time for it to bend the valve if you have valve float and the valve stays open because it can't return fast enough the piston can come up and hit the valve even though it is in time

You need a bore scope, it’s always nice to see in the cylinder and check valves that way.

Hey Joe what impact is that? The red one

yea. looks like the oil wasn't changed often enough, cyl wear causing slap to weaken and destroy the skirts. Also debris hitting the intake side will do it too, inspect inside of filter, carb throat, and boot for missing bits. This can also occurs when running hard when cold. Good chance since it was used by kids, start it up and go nuts, without warmup. I replace the pistons and jugs on my grandsons bike and skidoo all the time as he just starts it and goes mad, but this year he gets his hands dirty and hopefully will learn to let her warm up

Might want to check the crank case venting tubes Could’ve built up pressure in the crank case and blew the piston apart from the inside

I use a inspection can and look inside spark plug holes to see cylinder and valves before putting it the and pretty cheap. To inspect what is happening.

Keep it and make it in running condition , awesome thing to have to explore and have your kid riding on it it has the roller bar and your kid learns how to drive, best bet and you can also resell it later for a fair price too.
