I love Briwax! If I'm using it on pine I also like to give the wood an acid bath (bowl cleaner mixed with water, let dry) before I apply the wax. If gives it a really old, mellow look. Try it sometime!

The book cases look great great and should last for years. As an avid reader in a family of readers, I fully agree with your wife for both pleasure reading and serious academic / profesional study. I have six large book cases jammed fully and another six packing boxes full of books. That said, I also have a full terrabyte (1,000GB) of digital books as well (about 50 / 50 pleasure vs. profesional / reference). I actually have them backed up on and likned to my private personal cloud server. Yes i have read all those books and still go back to them. Granted they represent over 30 years of daily reading as an adult.

Jay I noticed your 2x10's are completely flat and straight, did you let them dry out first before you started this project. I try to buy the best ones and rotate them until they dry out to keep them from warping.

Wow! Those really turned out looking nice. Better than I thought they would using hardware store dimensional lumber. One quick question, are the book cases attached to the wall in some manner to keep them from being pulled over onto someone?
