I had the same issue with my 2005 Chrysler 300 and I fixed everything myself. I ordered new spark plugs, upper and lower gaskets, pcv valve, both rocker arm assemblys. Once everything was on, that loud knocking noise was gone for good.

@Derick Smith: Yes, Thats how Mine does, the Knocking comes alive after the engine wams up. I have torn it apart, I thought I would see a Collapsed Lash adjuster, but, they are all fine, just this same amount of Play like in this Video. The ones that aren't moving is because the camshaft is pushing up on the lifter. You have to turn the engine by hand 90° and check all of em for excess play.

Exactly. Was wondering if someone would catch it. If you got a tick, replace lash adjusters. Job im on, that whole roller slid out starved the lash adjuster

When replacing the rocker arm assembly did you have to soak them in oil or lubricant or just put them straight on as they came?

recommend always soaking them with the oil it has to go wit, like dodge challenger 10W-30 i soaked mines with that

Would you describe the noise you had at idle as a "tick" or an actual "knock"? I have the infamous 3.5 L "tick" in my 99 300M. I'm fixing to replace the rocker arm assembly on one side. Also, can you please tell me what gaskets I need 2 complete this repair?

No. It could be anything from a timing issue to lousy fitting piston rings, to a bent valve. You'll have to take it to an actual mechanic who can do a leak down test and see exactly where your lack of compression is coming from.
