It was a struggle. I was under a lot of pressure between work and being down two cars. That’s why there wasn’t as many jokes. Thanks for your kind words.

Always a good idea to rotate the crank by hand to double-check the timing marks line up.

I definitely to that every time

Quick question and hopefully you’ll see it.. I was doing a valve cover job replacing lifters and long story short, the lifter housing was completely broken and in my frustration I dropped a lifter straight down one of the holes right there below the camshaft and does anyone know where that B***H could have fallen?? I honestly don’t know or what to even check. The jeep was basically a lost cause but I decided to take it on as a project and I would like to try to revive it if I can but if not it’ll go to the junker
@TurlosGarageАй бұрын
If it went down a hole into the engine it probably goes to the oil pan. I haven’t had the engine out in mine so I can’t say for sure what the short block looks like. If it fell into the area in the front where the timing chain is it’s probably stuck in that area. You might be able to get it out without taking the timing chain cover off.

Always always always have a machine shop rebuild the heads on these 3.7 engines whenever you have the heads off for any reason. They revise them so they will no longer drop valves. Trust me. Buy once, cry once

Gasket trick is nice ! Glad you got the Jeep going Sir !
@TurlosGarage Жыл бұрын
That was along few months trying to get this fixed and waiting on parts and getting the head’s redone twice. The gasket trick was a huge help though. Trying to hold the gasket and manifold and tighten the bolt is a nightmare. Rock on Twobabe!

Hey got a question for you did you have white smoke coming out of exhaust prior to this issue? And how bad did it overheat? Mine got about 3/4 the way up turned off and turned heat full blast let it cool down. Im going to tackle the head gaskets prob this weekend. Worried it going to be a pain in the ass
@TurlosGarage3 ай бұрын
It never blew a lot of white smoke. It was a small amount. How did it go changing your head gaskets?
@beefysghost8673 ай бұрын
@@TurlosGarage never did it, found out it isn't antifreeze it's oil is burning. So that makes me believe that it's a piston ring, looking into alternative engine swaps now, would really like to drop a om606 turbo diesel down in it. Don't need electronics for the motor if you get one with mechanical injection pump. Can't go wrong with mechanical pump. Cause a 3.7 at junkyard around here is like 12-1500 bucks I can't pay that

Definitely replace the timing chains ect. I recommend doing the timing chain every 125-150k miles. I've seen many motors destroy themselves. It's pretty easy on this truck
@TurlosGarage3 ай бұрын
Probably a good rule of thumb to replace timing chains and tensioners. I rolled the dice with mine and made it to 200,000. In my opinion it wasn’t worth the risk.

Head timing toque amount ,
@TurlosGarage2 ай бұрын
The torque specs and sequence for the head bolts and the other bolts I looked up online. There is a specific sequence you have to use to properly torque the head gasket. I used my torque wrench and estimate the end head bolt torque amount is about 88-90 ft lbs on the bigger bolts. I don’t know how accurate my torque wrench is so take that with a grain of salt.

Every video I have watched doesn't show how to remove the exhaust manifold or how it is easier to remove the exhaust clamp at the manifold.for head removal. I know where all the head bolts are and which way to turn the wrench with the obvious removal items. Just sayin'.
@TurlosGarage10 ай бұрын
The second time I loosened the clamp and unbolted the manifold and left them in. The first time I did the heads I removed them and it was a massive pain. I had to unbolt the steering column. Half the time on the entire job was dealing with the exhaust manifolds so I found out you can remove the heads without removing the manifolds. It is a bit of a challenge to get the exhaust manifolds bolted back on with the exhaust system attached but still easier than snaking the manifold back in upon reassembly.
