This is good... recoil on the back leg and toe drag on both (stab the ground through drive phase) I teach this to my track athletes.

we dont do the 40 yard dash in the uk,, our shortest is 100m sprint. My starts were always awful and id end up near the back lol luckily 100m is long enough that my top speed was usually enough to get me 2nd, these tips would have made a huge difference

My starts always sucked. Still ran a 4.4 in college but my starts sucked bad.

For proof of number 1 advice, checkout Ben Johnsons' sprint start, he jumped into his start of his 100 meters, a hard technique but efficient. And yes internet, I am aware he was on roids, doesn't devalue his great starts.
