im am a 5'11 220 pound defensive lineman who will be playing college football at shorter university this fall. I always be doing speed excerise like skills ladder, jogs, random sprints in my neighborhood and lots of jump rope. What should be a goal 40 time for myself. The fastest I ever did was a 4.87. My Worst was a 5.1.

Chris, great stuff like always. However, it appears that you are cycling far to early in your acceleration phase - would have like to see you have a more piston like action with your legs the first few steps out of the blocks. Keep grindin' my man.

depends on a lot of factors. But if you look at an Olympic sprinter they are big strong dudes. As long as your flexible being bigger doesn't necessarily equate to being slower.

I ran a 7.0 about 7 months ago. Since then, ive stopped running in my training, and for the past 3 months, the main lower body exercises i do are squats and deadlifts along with some isolation exercises. Now ive gained 20 lbs of muscle, but will this type of workout and weight gaining in my training give me more power and speed, or less, than if i were to run all the time?

Hi, I'm 17 sprinter. My PB is 11.01 for 100m dash. You have good technique without much ground contact time(maybe slow motion). I'm researching about full hip extension. How to reach that? What exercises need I do to reach full hip extension?

Is there a relationship with the power leg and the leg that drives forwards in the split jerk? I always start my sprints left leg as the power leg but when I catch my jerks it's always right leg leading. I wonder if I can move more weight leading with my left leg...

If you have a decent start, a good start will usually shave off between .05 to .1 seconds and if you have a bad start it will take off about .1-.15 and make .2 seconds if it's horrible.

I'll critique him on one thing and that is the position of his hand that is on the ground. He should be on his fingertips instead of having basically his whole hand on the ground. You wanna do this so your hand can "flick" out and you'll be able to get out quicker. You never see world class sprinters having almost their whole hand on the ground, they are all always on their fingertips while starting.

How do I get stronger with the 5x5 workout and develop mma or seal type cardio being cardio fit and fast without negating strength development or over training? I feel like if I lift and do like 2-3 mile timed runs I can't fit in sprints but if I lift and do sprints then I wouldn't have energy or time for timed runs. how do I periodize this?

+nathan Rauch search it up and get as much knowledge from it as you can. You get bigger, faster and stronger with the conjugate method without having to do any phases like you would for a 5x5 program.
@redcypher1444
@redcypher1444 8 жыл бұрын
+nathan Rauch doing cardio and running miles isn't going to get you faster. Explosive box jumps, box squats, sumo deadlifts,dynamic pulls and squats, glute ham raises, leg curls and many more exercises will. If you wanna be fast you gotta be STRONG !! And the only way to do that is to train for absolute strength to get you there.

@WhiteBoy2412 9 жыл бұрын
The chosen 1 That is definitely not average, I don't know what country you live in, but in the U.S, there is a National and Presidential test for children ages 8-18. In order to get the Presidential award for the One Mile Run if you are 12 years old, you have to run a 7:11. One second slower, which is what he (I am assuming he is a he) got, is not average, it is very good for his age. Do not post comments on topics in which you are not educated upon. You will crush peoples egos and attitudes towards their dreams.

@PrOdIgAlTiMmEh 10 жыл бұрын
First of all, 4.87 to 4.49 is a huge drop. 4.5 is very fast, even for a professional. If this is a short-term goal, I recommend you rethink it because that sort of a drop is going to take quite a while and a lot of training. That being said, the best way to sprint faster is to sprint. Simple as that. In terms of weight training, Olympic lifts, deadlifts, and squats are your best friends to increase explosive power and to recruit fast-twitch muscle fiber.
