Will the Renaissance wax seal the pieces enough to keep the ink from bleeding later? I would worry that if the piece came in contact with perfume, sunscreen, bug spray, etc, it might ruin someone's clothing?

If you're worried the pieces will be in contact with things such as you mentioned, I'd recommend sealing it with a gloss varnish such as varathane. The renaissance wax will stop it from bleeding, but won't protect it as well as a varnish.

I purchased a tin of Renaissance Wax and when I opened it I nearly passed out. The benzene odor was overwhelming. Can you recommend a similar product that does not have such a strong chemical smell?

I have used Minwax paste finishing wax, but I find that smells worse. The wax really is just to give an extra shine. You can buff without the wax and get a decent finish. A gloss varnish like varathane also would work.
