Do you have a 3 min version of this video?
@Derricky007

I tried both. One thing i can tell you is that i tried the Mr. Fix on my car 7 months ago. It`s on a bright color ( metallic grey ). The apply process was not that difficult. I done it in portions. I applied it first on the hood, roof, trunk... I waited 3 minutes after applying and wiped it off. The result in my opinion is very good. I can`t really complain about anything. In my version there was not even a box, but i already used more of these bottles and in every package was a use instruction ! It clearly says that you have to wait on colder weather conditions 3-5 minutes to fulfill the cure process. On warmer weather you wait about one minute and then wipe it off. So to the point : Since it was colder and pretty rainy weather, i parked the car in the garage for about 14 days to let the coating harden as good as possible ( the instructions says it takes 1 hour to solidify the coat and 44 hours to fully cure ). So far, so good. I wash my car with active foam, and we all know that it is more aggressive than a common hand wash. The beading on the first wash was different than for example on Sonax BSD or on Sonax Polymer Netshield. The behaving is a lot of different in comparison to these two. The sheeting for my taste was excellent. There is a wide water surface that breaks into one point, and the water flows pretty fast down. The most interesting thing is that since the first wash until now, the car was washed approximately over 10 times with active foam ! The water repellent characteristics have not changed and are almost the same. In one case i tried it on a customers car and waited intentionally longer before wiping it out, and no surprise it was impossible on some spots to wipe it off completely. I had to remove it with a little bit of finish polish paste, since it was so bonded to the clear coat. That is the most negative point i see in this cheap ceramics coating. But all in all, i can say it is much better than expected. I usually use the Koch Chemie 1k nano ceramics coating. It`s a German manufacturer and a well known brand name. But if you are honest to your self, you can not judge that cheap product this way. In comparison of both products ( Mr. Fix and Koch Nano 1k ) to a long time period i think that both will offer a protection of one year of regular use. The circumstances of the expose to driven distances, sunlight, rain, dirt... are a factor that no one can calculate and tell in advance how long a product will withstand to all these obstacles. Another point is the preparation before applying the coat. Even cars that have paints that are in good conditions should be at least polished with some finish paste, like anti hologram or similar fine stuff. Afterwards a nice cleaning with alcohol is a must. Then you can count on the product and it`s full characteristics.

I think though derrick you had or have a totally different product to what I tested. you probably had the real mr fix? the veteren and the fake mr fix I had were very different... veteren was still very repellent after 6 months. fake mr fix wasnt. fake mr fix though I am convinced has more solids in it and less hydrophobic resins. veteren gives the illusion of stronger performance because of the hydrophobicity...
@Derricky007
@Derricky007 6 жыл бұрын
That is the biggest problem. You never know what " original " and what " fake " is. Veteran that i had, gave a better beading than Mr. Fix. I saw a few reviews from others. One good test i saw from one person is who tested Mr. Fix with a cigarette lighter. He divided a hood with tape and he took the lighter and punched with the slight sharp edge from it on both fields. One field coated with Mr. Fix and the other had no coating. I payed attention about the power and intense he did it on both sides. The side that was not coated suffered decent scratches, the other coated side had a visible scratch that was pretty easy wiped out with a towel. Since we are no chemists, and are not able to research it in a lab, we can not know what ingredients really are in it. I think the brand or the product Mr. Fix is a cottage brand, like many products from the East. Fact is, and i am convinced that this product can compete with many so promoted " big company " products. We have so much products especially in the sealing category which are overpriced, but in reality their performance is awful. It is very hard to expect from a wax to withstand more aggressive automatic car wash shampoos that are pretty juiced up with chemicals. The last 2-3 years showed us all that polymer and ceramics based sealing products play in a higher league than all that fancy lotus and natural stuff like Carnauba wax. But as long as this cheap ceramics products do no harm to the paint, nobody is really losing. For professionals it is just interesting to review and to try it of curiosity. But in my case like i said, i am surprised that this product is so strong. One other proof that i saw that this is a pretty solid coat is the small cloth that i used partially during applying, as the product dried out, it was stiff, i could not believe it, that this is possible.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 6 жыл бұрын
that lighter thing is basically a trick... its stuff like that that really puts people off using these products.. its not a valid test of physical protection... normally after that trick you see a guy with a flamethrower trying to burn the car...
@Derricky007
@Derricky007 6 жыл бұрын
I know that most of this stuff is nonsense. I do detailing over 10 years now. But this is my experience with that cheap ceramics. There is no coat or anything else that can physically protect from hits of stones and hard particles. And that stuff with igniting fire on a hood is basically a premixed paste with a lot of alcohol that burns out pretty fast. On TV commercials it is pretty common. And all that stuff on that commercials is mostly crap and worth nothing. In my opinion Sonax CC36, Gyeon, Koch Nano 1k, and some other manufacturers are at the top end. Even them can not provide any protection from physical damage. Everything is just up to the user to choose which product and how much is a such product worth to spend money on it. But for a amount up to 15 US$ this cheap ceramics are awesome.

Update, i got a 5 pcs pack that arrived a month ago. I wanted to try one bottle on a customers car. As soon as i took out the bottle out of the package i noticed that the consistency of the fluid is very thin. I opened it up and the smell was pretty different in comparison to the well known " good " Mr. Fix. Ok to the practical part : After a long polishing and preparing process i applied the product on to the hood. Basically i did everything in the same manner like before. Now comes the horrific truth, after waiting 5 minutes i tried to wipe off the product, which was practically impossible ! After searching and trying to find a solution, i gave up, and i polished away all that residues that this copy/counterfeit or whatever you want it to call produced. The surface was so sticky and full of residues that it made it impossible to wipe it clean. Another thing i noticed is that the sponge and the cloth that was delivered in the package, especially the cloth did not became stiff after 12 hours like it was the case with all the legit Mr. Fix versions. And all that talk about solids and other ingredients in this case is unneeded. This is just a piece of shit which was copied in order to take money from the buyer. There is no hardness in this version, this is some sticky mess mixed with some chemicals. I had my own prediction that the quality and the legitimate production will break in. But i did not expected that so fast this product is practically even for hobby consumers useless. It`s just a waste of time and money. The most valuable point on this conversation is that it is not affordable to buy such cheap stuff that has no quality control and a legit company profile. It was a nice test, which just confirmed, it is possible to produce cheap products that have excellent characteristics, but it is impossible to have a reliable control on quality and counterfeit measures in China. Literally, it is the end of this product for my own needs, i will just rely on branded and quality products in the future, since every corner in China started to pack this small bottles labeled as 9H ceramics.

I recently put the 9H mr fix ceramic on my red 2014 Dodge Avenger and it looks amazing! I’ve had friends and people walk by my car and feel it because it’s extremely smooth and shiny and asked me to do their vehicles I highly recommend it! As long as you do the prep right as in clay bar, wax, clean and 50/50 alcohol and water then apply it you will be just fine and will turn out amazing.

Hi, this is a very good review for going into the ceramic coating for a beginner like myself, because I didn't know whats these products are like so I went cheap, I know I do understand you get what you pay for. So I got these from ebay and I wasnt going to try on my better car first ,so I try it on my daughter's cheaper car, I know If I ruin her car, I will get her another. Yes Im smart. Here we go , when first time put it on, its true after apply on and waite few minutes then rub off and not much resistance, then I try leave it a bit longer like 20m -25m, then it was harder to rub off in fact it was quite a job to rub off, anyway I even left some panel didnt even rub off, so the next day, they all harden, the 3 different methods i try, few minutes, 20m and 24h, I must tell you they all look the same, I think it work it work on a budget. I m not saying you should go buy this cheap product rather than the dearer one, I am sure the branded one will give you more protection and support, but it is fun to see what you actually get for the £3 ish, at the end of the day you get what you paying for and the user is at your own risk. What I learn from that was how to and try to put on the " ceramic coating " to gain my experience. I also will try to do the wheels as well. not bad for a £3 if you looking this way. Thanks

Entry level consumer coatings like Cquartz UK are already incredibly reasonably priced. You can get a kit on autogeek with includes 30ml, the foam block, 4 suede applicators, and a small bottle of reload (which you can cut 1:1 if you really want) all for 60 (44 gbp) bucks, and you can almost always catch a sale there for 10-20% off and sometimes free shipping. That would bring the total cost of that kit to like.. 50 bucks (37 gbp?) That's hardly unreasonable, especially given how widely used and praised CQUK is. You could maybe argue you'd have to get Carpro Eraser as well, but that's only 15-20 (11-15gbp) bucks depending on how much you get. Just seems to make more sense to stick to a more reputable coating like CQUK Really enjoyed the video though, keep up the good work.

Hello mr forensic detailer 🤓 I also bought a few cheap ones and compared with the cquartz 3.0 I use regularly. I found the veteran too didn't bond to the panel however it did leave a residue behind which created a solid barrier on the paint. A year ago and the mrs car still has a lovely repellent square 😂😂 I applied mr fix to my.grandads car and It bonds really well, felt like it bonded quicker than cquartz and went off much quicker which almost caught me out. For me the most user friendly coating that works is the cquartz and a 40 quid it's very good value for money. Love your channel love your attention to detailing and reviewing products. I use the cheap ceramic coatings for things like engine bays, mud flaps, wheel wells, and semi-hidden plastic trim, etc. Scrub the area with APC, IPA/prep wipe, and lay it on with a foam pad or even a foam paint brush for corners, edges, and/or hard to reach areas. Super cheap, restores color and depth and lasts exponentially longer than most trim restore products. I see it still looking great on vehicles a year later and still going. I'm testing it on glass now, at just over 3 months and still holding. Super hard water in my area so in general I could care less about beading on any surface, I want the sheeting characteristics of true silica coatings pushing that water off. Water beading, while it does look sexy, is not the best indicator of good surface protection. Haven't experimented with it on wheels, but wouldn't be afraid of it. I don't use it on paint or high end vehicles. Interesting stuff though, gotta love having all these options. Thanks for taking the time. 👍✌

Thanks for the feedback Jon! Maybe you don't have a "real" version of the 9H Mr.Fix because finally I tested it on a black surface and the area became darker. Also the hydrophobic behavior was almost as good as the Sonax BSD (to give you an idea of comparison).

kokoloko12398 Note that this is a 6 months update video, not one made right after application. So, maybe your application will also develop the same symptoms in half a year time. That said the real problem is, that indeed you can just never know what you get, because there are no reputable sources for these coatings. So, even if yours proves to be better, who knows where and what you can get next time under the name Mr Fix 9H?

Sub to my channel! It will soon be showcasing the results on an 03 Suburban hood. That claim there, shows your experience. Not trying to be rude, just facts are facts and I have tested most coatings to find this out. You can remain thinking that as much as you want but that's on you, not me. I recently did a test on a 06 HHR hood with this stuff verse Igl's EcoCoat Quartz+. With light attempts at marring both with improper towels such as a terry cloth and surgical towels where it would have scratched waxed paint.... This knock off dollar store stuff still gets marred up. Whereas the EcoCoat Quartz+ did not. The parent company to my "On Site Auto Detailing" applies Modesta, Kenzo and System X that only caters to private auto collections, the wax and supplies we use on those cars are swissvax. I am well versed, researched and experienced with what a coating will or will not do! Posting things like that is misleading people who wouldn't otherwise know any better. This is equivalent to suggesting that ArmorAll is a great product and that pro's use it, we both can agree that would be just plain silly.

I've been seeing vids of people using ceramics on the trim to not only seal it, but to actually give it a bit of restoration and I was wondering if using a cheap one would be ok. This pretty much tells me yes. My truck is 20 years old and certainly isn't in tip top shape, but I still like to try to take care of it as best I can. This is also helpful on what to look for in other coatings as well, maybe I'll look into one for my dad's new truck.

How about trying the cheap ones together. Load your pad with the 6 dollar coating, spread it out then, load the middle of your pad with 3 dollar coating spread it over the same area, let it flash, buff it out and see how the does it. Just an idea, cause I’ve done the similar applying methods with the professional grade of coating and the results were outstanding. See how that works out.

good video, i dont really like coatings anyway even tho i have a car that has very soft single stage red paint i still prefer a hard wax, i dont like the fact that there's not really any point in topping these coatings with a wax, but i have tried something new lately its like a spray sealant that you apply on a wet car ideally after you've polished it and then wash it to get the polish off, the product is called Carpro Hydro02, it says it gives about 3 to 4 months protection but what i like is that it even works on wheels, plastics and fabrics such as in the wheelarches and convertable roofs plus the fact that you're basically done after you've applied it and dryed the car., i did choose to top it off with CG butterwet wax but i dont think that's necessary but really if you haven't tried it might be something worth checking out. thanks for making all these videos keep up the good work!!

This is so weird but I bought Mr Fix 9h after your last review to throw on a beater vehicle and I got the streaks that you had with the veteran one. I tried applying it many different ways and I found the best way is to put it on dry and immediately wipe. This is wasteful obviously so I had to lay down several coats. I would never recommend using on a nicer car.

Thanks for taking the time making this review! I just seen a diffrent review of 6 month's later of the mr fix (2nd coating) on one of my detailling groups and he still has great hydrofobic property's. I'm starting to doubt if he didn't use any extra protective layers or this was a fake? Alltho I don't see the point in faking a allready cheap product.

the veteren is still going strong water wise. the mr fix I had didnt have much in the way of repellency in comparison. scrolling through ebay theres so many different types of mr fix (and veteran). I dont know what the score is with it and the huge price range varience and different appearences of it. If the original mr fix is being knocked off why are they knocking this product off only?

I applied some Mr Fix 9H last weekend, I think the instructions implied that after the curing time you're supposed to go over it with a damp cloth to level it, so the water thing does sound plausible. Word of warning, it seems to take the gloss out of cellulose (i.e. spraycan) paints.

Keep in mind that Im looking at my tablet screen, but from the look of the color of the streaks from the first coating and it's repellant behavior, it looks to me as if its petroleum based. If you wiped diesel on a panel, you would have pretty much the same result.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 6 жыл бұрын
when you say petroleum based. pretty much most of the coatings use di-n-butly ether as the base solvent for the inorganic and the organic silazanes. when they blend other resins in they need to use different solvents to keep those resins thin and in those instances they can use a small amount of naptha (which is petroleum based). when you have naptha in there I think thats what causes the rainbow flash. The premium product I think has more naptha in it that the other 2 based on seeing a very visable rainbow flash with it. I dont think the opaquing in the middle section is anything to do with naptha.. the small amount of naptha in the product will flash away. I think its to do with the silazane. could be wrong. who knows.

I did a follow up and bought some other ones. One of the other blue bottle ones was a bit stiffer to buff. Its probably a good sign actually if its stiffer. but half the problem is theres no consistency with this stuff you dont really know what you are getting. maybe its ok for like trim or something though. 3-4 quid is cheap i guess.

Now on trim I’ve been waiting for good weather I’m pumped now. It is not comparable to real coating this is like a lite beer version. IXI Futureproof right now autogeek is selling blackfire crystal coat 8oz of coating for 20$ under the outlet store. it is a decent coating but flashes fast so no one bought it. I tested it and found out it just need a little extra solvent and I took my empty coat bottle and put in 7ml of mineral spirits and 23ml of the coating and I have over 8 refilled coating bottle and apply to peoples cars for $250 per application so I will turn the $20 purchase into $2000. I ended up buy 5 of these 8oz giant bottles of coating.

You don't want to put a ceramic coating on a mirror, because by making it super hydrophobic, it will be also more prone to fogging up. You usually want the opposite of that, and you can achieve that by making the surface hydrophilic (which is the opposite of hydrophobicity). It might work on shower cabin, though, if it's the "milky" type already. However, glass is very easy to clean anyway, so I can't really see any benefit in coating that with a ceramic.

@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 5 жыл бұрын
no mate. The UV filtering comes from the main silazane resins (so Im told). So the lower (suspected) % of resin in the product and subsequent inferred lower durability makes them less suitable for that. I guess depends how you look at it. Like its cheap and it will give more protection than a paste wax on the headlight. But if your have sanded and buffs a headlight to perfection. I would get a rattle can clearcoat and put that down. Or at the very least a decent grade ceramic coating. I perhaps would argue though I would not go and by a 50 quid coating, just to crack open to seal a headlight with. Thats ridiculously expensive. You would save some resin back maybe, like the dregs of a coating just to cover the headlight for free kind of thing. Good little half way house is always have some moonlight from TAC kicking around because it seems to stay functional in the bottle for years. And its cheap. so maybe if you dont want rattle can clear and you dont want to buy a new coating for it. Have moonlight kicking around. Its a wicked product to have anyway.

Hi great vidios on car detailing I learn a lot, may I ask about bird lime protection. I have to leave my cherished black M5 outside and bird droppings are the real issue for me. Now since about 2017 there has been a major change in automotive paints with improvements to formulations that are less prone to bird poo attack. However, I would very much like to understand what would you recomend as the best protection system, maybe a vid demonstration would be well received, especially by UK car owners.

Been thinking on doing this. Just got a new car and I want good protection. From what I've seen it isn't that hard but the counterfeit products is hard to distinguish. I've seen counterfeit products that are packaged very similar to the real deal. I worry about a counterfeit product in a very similar package and a mid-range price or even full price. Not ever seeing or smelling some that I am sure is real, I would never know if what I got was real or counterfeit. I don't want to go through the expense and trouble to do it right only to have it fail or mess up my car. I think I'll wash and wax or polish it and try one of the spray on coating. I'd rather have to maintain it than to mess it up. Can you use product like Rain-x on the paint during the rinse? (Watered down) My other vehicles are older and weren't taken care of before me. (Clear coat pealing and scratches) I was more concerned with running and driving of it than the looks. Can you suggest what to do? I can't afford to have it professionally done, and worry about them using the good stuff too. They can guarantee it for 2 years if they plan on closing in a year.

I am referring to how the product is advertised- the PH range of 2-12, the hardness of 9H, the 3-5 yr durability. Basically what the general public may look at as a way to decide on which to purchase. I just tried to find the SDS on MR. Fix and am having issues locating one, I did compare the two last year and did notice similarities. Like i say Gtechniq does not cause that ghosting that Jon found on black. If i was to use this product i may try it on barrels of wheels but i think i will still pay more for the brand i trust and have used with great success.

Fix coating
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 6 жыл бұрын
Congratulations Ruben you are one of the lucky few that got the real product by the sound of it.. although I am not sure if thats good or bad. but at least you have instructions. in terms of activating a coating.. well the coatings are moisture cure systems.. so they use the hydrogen and oxygen in moister or water to cure or change state to the hard resin. So some of the coatings use water during the application process to trigger the cure quicker... So I would follow the instructions.. theres a video kicking around of some guys applying this coating to a car in turbo rapid style using water.. thats the best advice I can give. follow the instructions to the letter. in terms of support you could try and contact Mr fix for any specific questions around application.. in the words of marco from tripoli... good luck.
