Great gear load out and the canoe is awesome! I loved part one of your trip and I am looking for part two. I love that pack, too. I use a 50 liter yellow dry bag and a small waterproof backpack for my kayak trips. I wish I was into canoeing and kayaking when I was stationed in your beautiful country...would have made my 8 years even more enjoyable there.

Yes, it’s a great way to see the countryside, and from an angle you don’t normally get to see! I’m really pleased with the pack, it’s only 30l but I managed to get most of my kit in it - the mesh pockets are really handy too. Cheers Alexander, Atb.

Have a wonderful time and a safe journey. Are the biting insects all gone? They sure aren't here in Canada. Nicely done on the small, compact kit. Didn't see any first aid stuff though but I think you said you had it somewhere in the kit.
@simonablokeinthewoods6 жыл бұрын
Cheers! Yes, there are plenty of mosquitoes about, not to mention horse flies! The downside to summer trips! My med kit lives in that zipped pouch - I have cream for bites and one of those clicker things that’s supposed to relieve bites (but doesn’t!) at least we don’t have your black flies here!! Atb, Simon.

Cqnt waite to see the video on your adventure. One question, do you have any more videos on your lavvu mods? I am getting ready to sew 13 inches of height to the bottom of my lavvu and was wondering if you made one long strip of material and then sewed that long strip to the bottom.
@simonablokeinthewoods6 жыл бұрын
Cheers Jason! No more lavvu vids I’m afraid. Yes, I did sew the panels together to make one long strip (longer than I needed) then sewed it on to the bottom of the lavvu about 50mm in to create a small overhang. Hope that helps! Atb, Simon.

Well done Simon a very informative film. You mentioned having the SLR or was that DSL camera? As well as the GoPro, which camera is best for filming for KZbin? Sorry for these questions Simon, but my last one is that I noticed you don’t mention toileting and do you bring as I do a trail scoop to bury your poo or what is your system? Have a great canoeing trip and I look forward to the film. Cheers ⛺️🦔🛶
@simonablokeinthewoods6 жыл бұрын
Cheers Mike! I do most of my filming using a dslr, the picture quality just seems so much better, so that is always my number one, my compact is a canon powershot, also a great little camera and my backup. The go pro I use in the canoe for those shots I don’t want to risk my main camera on!! Or for when it rains or for when I need both hands! And as for pooping, I’m a dig a hole and burn the paper kind of bloke - I’ve got a small trowel in my hygiene kit (which I forgot to show in the film!!) Atb mate.

hello Simon thoroughly enjoying your videos. I have a week off work this month and was looking for somewhere around the broads / rivers where I can hammock camp, (legally preferably), and have easy access to the rivers and broads , ideally without driving to a put in spot every day. I have only done day trips up to now with my (venture Ranger). I haven't had much luck looking online but then I don't know the area, any ideas anyone? looking for 3-4 days. I don't want many portages as I am getting on a bit (57) and have a dodgy back, and my canoe is heavy. Cheers John
@simonablokeinthewoods6 жыл бұрын
Hi John, well, there are a couple of options I can think of off the top of my head, firstly there is a legitimate wild camping area at Salhouse Broad, I’ve not used it, but it is central on the Broads with lots of options for days out in the river both up and downstream. The only issue this time of year will be river traffic! In Bungay, there is a campsite next to the river Waveney, not sure if it is hammock friendly? That one is called Outney Meadow. Or if you fancy venturing into Suffolk, there is always the Stour, a very good little campsite alongside the river near Nayland (Rushbanks campsite) they have a dedicated hammock area and you can have open fires too! Good paddling up and downstream. Hope that helps, have a great time! Atb, Simon.

@simonablokeinthewoods5 жыл бұрын
I often take a hammock, I just find it so much more comfortable, but appropriate wooded areas were an issue on this trip, as was having open fires - we were wild camping (without permission, therefore stoves only) 👍
