On that positive note, the filioque has been investigated quite thoroughly by both sides. The common ground that was briefly agreed upon at one point is that both Catholics and Orthodox can get behind the phrase, “From the Father, THROUGH the Son.” This phraseology was briefly used by both sides before international politics severed its usage. There are theological distinctions, but the experts are currently optimistic that this particular issue, (the filioque) can be resolved by the verbiage above. There are other issues that are trickier to handle, but this one is much more likely to be agreed upon in our lifetimes. It would result in a change of word usage in the creeds, but no change in theology. The other issues would require one side or the other to yield to changes in underlying theology, which is much harder to stomach.

Read what Catholic Croats did to Orthodox Christian Serbs just because they are Orthodox Christians. Forced conversion of 250 000 Serbs, 500 000 killed in death camps. They killed them not because of nationalism. They killed them because they were Orthodox Christians. So my guy, we Serbs would rather die until last one, we would rather become protestants than to go to any ecumenical union with Roman Catholics. One more time... Let that sink in.

We don't have to mention it, almost every Catholics loves Orthodox brothers and sisters, but Orthodox community do not. they believe that we Catholics won't get in to heaven and even our Saints too.. which means they are all in Hell. But, we don't have to think about it, Catholic Church teaches that, It's God who decides who should be in Heaven and it doesn't depend on our Faith alone.. Orthodox from different traditions don't hate each other, that's ridiculous. Disputes existed since the dawn of the Church (the fight between Saint Peter and Saint Paul). There were breaks in communion, even with the Church of Rome, way before the Great Schism. Now, the Roman Catholics are united by jurisdiction (the Pope), but still are divided on faith and practice: Continuists (Pro Vatican II), Traditionalists (Pre Vatican II), Sedevacantists (Anti Vatican II), Charismatics (Pentecostal Catholics), Conservative Catholics, Liberal Catholics, Pro LGBT Catholics (i.e. those in favor of Fiduncia Supplicans), etc.

Firstly the “ Roman Catholic “ church you refer to the western Latin rite , one of over 20 different rites ; most of who follow the liturgical tradition of the orthodox and eastern oriental churches . Which makes up the one holy apostolic Catholic Church . This very universality is one of the signs of the true church . No other church has this universality

@@jmailmonopolis6296 you are correct. however, just like nothing impure can’t enter heaven, the Holy of Hollies cannot dwell in something in pure. In addition, at the end of revelation chapter 11 the Bible shows the arc of the covenant in heaven and in the beggining of chapter 12 it shows that is the woman that gives birth to Jesus. Remember, the Bible wasn’t written with verse number. That was added later on by the church (Catholics). If you read it without verses you are reading a continuous letter by Saint John and the early church believes the woman is Mary because she gave birth to him. Literally. I’m not saying this to convince you. Just telling you why Catholics, orthodox, and the first Protestants believe that. With that said, Catholics believe that Mary was born without original sin. That doesn’t mean didn’t later sin. Orthodox believe she didn’t sin but was born with original sin. To me and that’s just me, if you are born without original sin probably can’t sin and if you are born with it you will sin so the catholic position makes more sense to me but I’m no expert.

There is also ADS - Palamite division in which the Catholic position says that in God there is no distinction at all between the persons of the Trinity, the divine essence, and the divine attributes, all being united without distinction. Obviously we still hold there to be a distinction in the persons but in the essence they are all one and the same and the attributes of the essence are all also one and the same. Whereas Palamism teaches the EED (Energy Essence Distinction) which teaches that in God there is a real distinction between the divine essence and the uncreated energies and that the divine essence is unknowable and unapproachable even to the Saints but that the uncreated energies are perceivable and knowable and that the Saints themselves in a way unite with the uncreated energies in what is known as Theosis which is like a transformation, turning us into gods (little g) in a sense as we are united with the uncreated energies.

Papal infallibility is way more complicated and matters of faith or other particular issues can also be settled through a council in the roman catholic church, that's the whole problem of vatican II, but also its solution. The church is in huge turmoil and the only way to fix the problems that it is facing would be through a new council, which should happen sooner than everyone thinks. The Ordo Sanctae Clarae (Order of Saint Claire) in Spain has called for a council just 4 days ago and all of the nuns have decided to leave the church untill a council is held and untill the positions of the church are clarified regarding vatican II, so there will be a chain of events resulting from that. A lot of bishops and priests were afraid to take a similiar stance, thinking that the pope (anti-pope) would dispossess them if they were the first ones and that nobody followed. And yes it is through the holy spirit that we get to know the father, through the son, the holy spirit is sent by the son. The fillioque was an attempt to fight against aryanism, which denied the divinity of christ. The greeks should have called for a council in this particular case, but they never did they just left the church and made their own, which makes no sense because there is only one church and if the papacy is wrong then the seat is vacant and it's an anti-papacy it's not the church, that is very clear still to this day. Greek bishops were also trying to have more authority, it was not just related to doctrinal issues, that's the untold truth from the orthodox side. Regarding the Immaculate Conception it's related to the protestant Reformation, it was to emphazise what protestants disregarded. Catholic doctrine is subtle, it's not as clear cut as its detractors would like to make it seem.

Roman Catholics like to make arguments which focus on a kind of "universality" that the True Church must supposedly have. By "Universality", they mean Catholicity, which for them is different rites/traditions united under one jurisdiction: that of the Pope of Rome. But a few remarks are noteworthy: 1 - That understanding of Catholicity is not Catholic. Catholic means universal, in the sense of being pertaining to everything, but it also means complete/whole/lacking nothing. 2 - Historically and ecclesiastically that's not true, because different rites/traditions were under the jurisdiction of their very own local church which originated these rites/traditions, bot under the Bishop of Rome (which Roman Catholics falsely believe). The Armenian rite was under the juridisction was under the Armenian Church jurisdiction, the Byzantine rite was under the Church of Constantinople jurisdiction, the Alexandrian (Coptic) rite was under the Church of Alexandria jurisdiction, etc. 3 - These so-called many different rites in the Church of Rome are recent, coming in recent centuries, many by forced, violent proselytizing by the Roman Church in the Eastern Churches. Different local/national churches and juridisticons have ALWAYS existed in the Church, with their respective rites and tradutions, and they were NOT under the Pope. What united them? The Orthodox Faith, the Hierarchs, Holy Tradition and Ecumencal Councils.

I can't for the life of me figure out why the Orthos were so anti-Filioque, it seems like they've placed Sacred Tradition above Sacred Scripture since the concept of Filioque is discernable through scripture yet simply was an oversight when constructing the Nicene Creed, so the Orthos were more willing to rely on the tradition than correcting the Creed to a more accurate theology...I do however agree with the compromise of saying "From the Father through the Son" which many have agreed on both sides amends the worst issues of the disagreement. It is long since time we let bygones be bygones & unite our forces of good against the forces of evil that are clearly coalescing for some huge showdown.

@nahomg.4191 4 ай бұрын
As an Ethiopian Orthodox Christian myself, this’s actually inaccurate. The church doesn’t have a conclusive view on the immaculate consumption. For instance, the previous patriarch abune paulos wrote in his Princeton university dissertation “She (Virgin Mary) is two-fold virgin, i.e., virgin both in body and soul, who, though not "immaculate" or free from original sin, yet was all-holy, pure, and chose to actively participate in the saving work of God, His incarceration”. Many ancient church fathers and scholars of the church also taught against the doctrine immaculate conception.

Filioque is actually a translation problem not a theological one. Let me explain. The reason why the filioque is absent in the greek (both greek catholic and orthodox) creed is because the verb meaning "proceeds" is different. The greek verb, ἐκπορευόμενον, means "makes to go out from" and implies divine origin. and as such, adding "and the son" *would* be heretical. The latin creed uses the verb "procedit" which literally means "proceeds". It does not directly imply that the Holy Spirit's divine origin is the father and the son, but rather says that he simply comes forth from the son and is not sent by him. The Catholic and Orthodox churches even agree on the theology. The Holy Spirit's divine orgin (ἐκπορευόμενον) is the Father, but he "proceeds" (procedit) from the Father and the Son. As he does come forth from the son, but he is only sent forth from the father *through* the son.
@DanielQwerty
@DanielQwerty 10 ай бұрын
Not to mention, dictionaries didn't exist and while some church fathers spoke both greek and latin, they weren't linguists and it's probable that some words were not 1:1 translations. To add salt: Latin and Greek are closely related enough that bishops who didn't speak fluent latin could possibly misunderstand filioque and apply it to their greek verb mistakenly and not see that procedit means something different
@jeremiasitkonen9322
@jeremiasitkonen9322 10 ай бұрын
Thats right but it was and is theological problem and catholics still today defend tte filioque. The western church at that time (great schism 1054) also held the view that they changed it to better because even today eastern and western churches has the same issues. Orthodoxy: Holy Spirit PROCEEDS from the Father through the Son. Catholic: Holy Spirit PROCEEDS from the Father AND the Son. May our Lord Jesus Christ bless you and keep you safe ☦︎✝
@DanielQwerty
@DanielQwerty 10 ай бұрын
@@jeremiasitkonen9322 I deleted my old reply to correct my statement. I *know* the catholic church agrees theologically. The catholic church teaches (albeit not loudly) that the source of his divinity is the Father, but he is sent from the father in the Son's name (or through the son). We just like to emphasize that he does come through Jesus. So he does proceed from the son, but his divinity begins at the Father. A further explanation of the langauge used would be like this: if I sent you a letter, that letter proceeds (ἐκπορευόμενον) from me. But that letter proceeds (procedit) from me and the mailman. (I'm not calling Jesus a mailman, I am simply explaining the language used, nor am I saying Jesus is ONLY an instrument for the holy spirit and that's all he does) τὸ ἐκ τοῦ Πατρὸς ἐκπορευόμενον qui ex Patre Filioque procedit. However, I will ask my priest to triple check this, but I am nearly 100% sure we agree. I appreciate that, may God also bless you.

A 4th one is, Orthodox Christians do not have a rosary or do the rosary prayer. It was never part of the Original Church. The Roman Catholic devotion of praying the Rosary is not a part of the Orthodox Christian Tradition, as this devotion in its present form dates from about the 15th century-hundreds of years after Roman Catholicism separated herself from the Orthodox Church. In Orthodoxy there is, however, the practice of praying the Jesus Prayer-“O Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me, a sinner”-on a set of prayer beads, generally 100 in number. This tradition is especially upheld by Orthodox monks and nuns, although a growing number of laypersons also make use of such beads. This usage, however, is completely unrelated in origin, form, and content to Roman Catholicism’s Rosary.
