For all other lazy cooks out there: Pressing the tofu isn't necessary. I did it at first when I started as a vegan but I don't bother anymore. It might take a bit longer to fry but if you use good quality firm tofu, you don't need to press it: just drain off excess liquid by squeezing with your hands. That being said, many say the texture is better when pressed so you do you :).
@drizzlyafternoon Жыл бұрын
Also, when freezed and thawed, all the water comes out from tofu super easily just by squeezing in hands. And it's a great option if you want to buy more tofu on offer and keep it in the freezer.

I've been vegetarian over a decade now. I started with pressing it too, now I just cut it and cook it and it's pretty much the exact same thing so I 100% stand by this for people who are in a pinch or a lazy cook like me

I love the production in this video. What a fun way to shake it up. 😄 I got your cookbook in pre-order and so far everything I've tried, I've loved. I appreciate how accessible and realistic the recipes are. Despite loving cooking, I don't always have the time and energy (and products) to spend an hour or more on elaborate meals. I actually cook out of your cookbook even when I'm in rush and that's so nice.

Not sure I will ever go fully vegan but have recently substituted mushrooms for meat and also been shopping at local farmers markets. The toastie is amazing and great tip with adding the water made such a difference. Will need to try the fried tofu nuggets next. ❤

I've never really been a fan of tofu, however after being a vegetarian for 39 years, from I was 11, I've decided to go vegan and I know tofu is a good staple. I've been watching vegan cookery videos for not just meal ideas but also to increase the various spices & condiments that are regularly used in vegan cookery. I think the tofu nuggets look delicious and I hope they taste as good as they look.

*Slowly* transitioning to a more vegetarian/vegan diet after learning more and more about the food out there. This is a great video and it’s so overwhelming at first when it comes to starting. Went to a vegan restaurant for the first time today and it changed my perspective finally trying it out first-hand. You made these look so easy that I want to take a trip to the grocery store. Quick question: can I air fry the firecracker tofu nuggets? I’m trying not to use oil a lot and I prefer air frying.
@s30123 Жыл бұрын
Freezing then thawing tofu is the best way to get the texture and to make it super easy to press oit water. I just use my hands and the Freezing changes texture so it doesn't fall apart. Also I only use the air fryer to cook tofu now 1 or 2 minutes on 400 Fahrenheit is perfect

Exceptional ASMR in this one 😉 I’m not a vegan, but my Catholic upbringing of no meat on Friday’s has stuck with me my entire adult life and a few times a year I also like to do a full week of meatless meals. I think it’s just good to go without anything you regularly have in your life for a time … hmm now that I think of it, that’s also probably due to my Catholic upbringing (lent and what not) hahah. You just appreciate things more when it’s been absent for a time. I also just love good food, love to cook, and I’m always looking for recipes I can easily slip into my rotation that are different and refreshing to our palette. These all look SCRUMPTIOUS. I’m literally sat here drooling and I’ve just eaten so it’s not because I’m hungry even. How have I been alive this long and never heard of a tofu press????!! I enjoy tofu by my other half decidedly does not …. That breaded recipe is absolutely coming to my kitchen and soon! He wont’ be able to resist it 😃 It will be the gateway tofu 😂 Congratulations on the early success of the book, Maddie. You’ve worked so hard on it and it’s obvious your heart and soul imbues every page. I grinned ear to ear when you shared that the advert had been up in the bright lights of Times Square. I’m so happy for you and your whole team. It’s such a joy to be able to witness someone’s success. It’s like a contact high of good feeling hormones 😂 ❤

@northwoodfalls1403 Жыл бұрын
I’m not speaking for Alex and Maddie, but I have been making my own breads for years. The best way I personally have found is to, first off, not have more than you can eat in a few days out at one time. If you don’t eat as much as you’ve baked in about that time, portion it and put the other portion in the freezer. Get a bread box. It helps to keep the moisture in the bread. Also, for some of my breads, depending on the moisture content of them, I use linen cloths (they also sell linen bread bags) and loosely wrap the loaf in those. Just be sure to clean out the crumbs in the box as they will mold fairly rapidly.
@acoeurlacouture Жыл бұрын
I agree with all of what is said in the precedent post. I slice it directly and use cooking paper to put the slides separated in a frozen bag and shove it in the freezer. (Not ideal the cooking paper but i didn’t find anything better and it’s possible to re-use it). Like that i can take the amount i need for the day, the night before in the bread box it goes. The next morning it will be unfrozen and ready to be eaten.
