Thanks for the parallel processing mention. It's something I always use and share with our students. Often with any type of bass element, in Ableton, I'll use Effects Rack split into multiple paths and name them things like LoLo Bzzzzt, Fuzz, Grit or whatever to describe their function and feeling. Also don't forget that once you apply the parallel distortion, you can roll lows off post distortion/fuzz/overdrive as not to create potential phasing conflicts. Feel free to apply stereo modulation effects to your high passed dirt channel like phasor/chorus or even reverb, while keeping your sub clean, steady and in mono.

Brilliant tips as always! Never thought about the fact that adding distortion/saturation can actually squash the sub frequency of the bass. Great to know that! Will be trying the 2 separate mixer tracks for sure! How did you get the overlay on Pro-Q btw? Just have them routed to the same mixer to check frequency overlap, or is there an overlay setting within Pro-Q that I'm missing? Lol.
@emptytombprod3 жыл бұрын
I'm curious now too. I think it allows you to see all instances of PRO-Q you have in session overlayed in a different color.
@emptytombprod3 жыл бұрын
I think he's using the spectrum analyzer feature. It can be customized via the analyzer panel, which pops up automatically when you hover above the analyzer button in the bottom bar of PRO-Q. I could be completely wrong tho. Incredible feature either way.
@red0ctane193 жыл бұрын
@@emptytombprod Oh damn! Seeing all instances would be awesome! But yeah now that I think about it it may be the spectrum analyzer. I believe that's what I've used before when mastering with pink noise. I believe you have to Side chain it for that, though. If I am thinking about the right thing that is. Lol.
@NavieD3 жыл бұрын
Yeah there is an analyzer feature in Pro-Q that shows you what your other instances of Pro-Q are "hearing"

I think it was after trying to use a few 808 samples that I just said f it and learned the basics to do it on serum. Different tools for different artists i guess
@kage-fm3 жыл бұрын
@@chiefblanko i figure by the time you're like "this is a good sample, but it needs more midrange, so i'll add some distortion; also the tail is a little long, so i'll adjust the volume envelope... now i'll just saturate the transient to give it some thwack, and voila"... you've basically done all the work to synthesize your own anyway, and it's not clear that browsing through your sample library to find the right 808 saved you any time

So im using the lunch metro and Pierre kits. And for some reason even when I use 808s that fit good in the eq sections, I just can't get them to sound tuned or good. They're usually all in C. Do I have to tune them to my root note? I tried that too and it still just sounds off. Some beats sound great and others I just can't seem to get the 808s to work with my melody
