Buckin, you are bringing so many, including me, deeper into the vintage axe world. I love it when you show off an axe head and talk about its maker and its marks. A big draw for me into these axes is the history. Thank you for all you do!

Spent a good part of the day today with my wife going through her parents place cleaning and sorting stuff and figuring out what we're going to do now that they have passed. I came across my father in-law's old collins double bit. I threw that right in the truck glad to have the honor of putting it back to work again. It needs a new handle though and I fired up the computer when we settled in for the night intending on finding one. See the notification of a new Buckin' video so I had to watch that first and damn if you aren't talking about axe handles and where to get a top quality one. Don't know if that is pure coincidence or the universe providing a helping hand but either way thank you once again. The old collins cruiser will be making chips again soon.

@@willcollier9031 I think winter is just as good as summer no bugs biting that time of year . It seem to be working (the sweet fern) so just a minor annoyance at this point. Being up north here in the U.S. we get 4 seasons I enjoy it.

Buckin, I’ve got to send you some Bowman handles. Made in South Side Arkansas, they are the best handles I’ve come across. I go down to the plant and have 500 to choose from in all sizes. They have been in business since 1967 and the quality and pride is still there. I’ll gather a few up and get them headed your way. I’ll email you for shipping details. Love ya brother.

The Colonial Homestead in Ohio has a Great selection of vintage hand tools. I went there looking for a octagon handle for a Flintedge Cruiser Bit that my grandpa hand while living. He left the world 25 years ago so I was not settling for Lowe's. From what I was told the store owner and Killenger worked together to make the BEST old school handle patterns for another Omish wood worker to copy for Killenger. If Killengers handles are as good as the one the store owner made up for me, it would be hard to get a better handle.
@SkillCult5 жыл бұрын
Good info to know amigo. People ask me all the time about where to get good handles. West Woods on ebay is good. We have a hardware store brand here that I like the design of, but you have to sort through most of them to get a good one. It's called Do-It-Best. If the design is really bad, like it is with some handles companies now, you are just screwed. Even companies that tend to use low grade wood will slip through a few quality ones here and there though as long as the design is okay.

Love the teaching you do with your boy and love the message you teach. Since watching your videos, I've really gotten into axes a lot more. I've been a woodworker for years and have always enjoyed doing older woodworking, building things how they would have been built hundreds of years ago with joinery and with tools older than you and I combined haha that being said, I don't know much about axes. I picked up a set of axe heads that I want to rehang, one will be for splitting, and the other for chopping down. What is your advice on handle length for splitting firewood vs chopping a tree down? Thanks in advance for any advice! I'm wanting to order from Whiskey River!
@c.stafne23562 жыл бұрын
I won’t even look at a Whiskey River axe handle again, bought one and hung a 3lb head on it and it turned out great. My son on his 2nd swing the axe head hit the log square and the handle separated on the wood grain mid way down the handle. I contacted them and they said to many variables no warranty. So had the handle for 2 hrs and it is junk. Very rude customer service and no spine to their products.

Yep, the splitmasters are always that nice green color for some reason. I don't really know the story behind them, I'm guessing they came about when the patent for the Chopper 1 ran out but don't know where those were made or by who.

Looks like some nice handles from these companies. Just don't order link handles on the internet. Pretty sure this company sells their rejects there. I got only one good handle out of five when I ordered on eBay/Amazon. I think the best way to get a good handle this to just go down to the hardwear store and sort through their pile. 3/4 of them will be bowed or bad end grain etc but you can find a good one once in awhile. Then you know exactly what you're going to get.
